Pros: There were no extra costs added to the deposit amount as I had fuelled the car at the airport. Toll charges were included in the rental which I thought were going to be added on. The car was basic but that is why it was cheap.
Cons: Tried to get me to pay the additional insurance and were not happy when I didn't take it up.

Pros: Can't recommend these guys highly enough at Faro airport. Car broke down on day 4 and thought it would be an absolute nightmare - I was wrong. Within 3 hours I'd reported it, they arranged a tow truck, taxi'd me to the airport, gave me a replacement car, and I was back at my apartment getting on with my holiday - probably quicker than any UK breakdown - well done GoldCar. Will be using these again!

Cons: The car we were given had so many dents and scratches on it. There was also some damage to the floor of the vehicle which wasn't even noted when I was shown the car. The staff seemed very casual about the amount of damage on the car when we collected it and then didn't even check it when I returned the car. I didn't get charged for any damage, but it would be very easy for them to say the I had damaged the car with the amount of damage there was. Literally 100's of dents and scratches

Cons: On returning what was already a very dented and scratched vehicle, with a bent front bumper that was actually bent down so much that it could have posed a hazard as it gave the front of the vehicle less ground clearance. I find that GOLDCAR managed to find an additional scratch amongst the million ones already there, and claim it was an additional one with a charge of over 100 euros to fix?! TERRIBLE COMPANY they should be on your books.

We were not refunded our security deposit after returning the car (when we had taken out full/maximum insurance) or the deposit Goldcar took for fuel in the instance the car was returned empty. Fyi, we refilled the car to full at the airport petrol station when we returned for our flights home and dropped the car off. In addition, we had also paid £72 to your website for insurance which we were told was invalid by Goldcar so we are hundreds of pounds out of pocket.

Pros: From pick up to drop off I had an awful experience starting from them being misleading about the car I hired - I had hired a fist panda and they said that was the same as a fiat 500 which it clearly isn’t, so to get the correct sized car they made me get the next size up. Ending with when I returned the car they charged me for a tiny scratch right under the front of the car that must have been missed on the pick up inspection. In total I ended up paying about €300 more.
Cons: They tried multiple times to do the hard sell on insurance. I repeatedly said no. The tone by the agent was awful. It was like she got comp'ed on selling additional insurance. I was also nearly strong armed into having to use a credit card (without having one on me) but if you paid for the insurance, you wouldnt have to pay the desposit up front. I didnt have a credit card, so I had to pay the whole deposit up front. NOT a great experience!

Because we had purchased a liability waiver with Discover Cars already, we didn't. Luckily we didn't need any roadside assistance, but it is not client friendly not to have any phone number at all. I also find it strange that there is no spare tyre in the car.

Cons: All the secret costs, scaremongering that our cover wasn’t good enough, charging us £50 to hoover some sand out of the boot! Not getting a car similar to what we paid for. Paying extra online to have an in terminal car hirer, to end up having to go out of terminal with all our luggage. The car was also covered in dents and scratches. I paid more for this hirer than I normally do with others in the area for a bigger car and convenience, but ended up with far worse. Will never use again.

Cons: I had booked a Fiat panda or similar, but was given a Citrion C1 which is some what smaller. Car was overall very clean, but struggled with hills and speed would reduce very quickly, which is not very safe. Return of holding deposit took over a week to be returned, which is to long.

It felt like they were doing anything to try and take more money - for example, they charge you 120 euro for a full tank when you take the car in case you return it empty. Even though the tank only cost 50 euro to fill up. It is just a way of them holding money in the bank as they have your credit card details anyway so could just charge you at the end if you return it empty.

Cons: First of all, we received any explanation about the specificities of the car. Second, it was full of stains. Third, it had a warning about a lack of maintenance. Fourth, we were not told that we needed to clean the car before giving it back, which is quite unusual. Actually, it is the first time we rent with that condition. As we did not read the small lines of the contract and so did not clean the car, we were charged 50 euros for that, which represents 4 hours of work... Clearly a fraud!

We are currently commencing recovery measures for these over charges, but you do not need this after a very pleasant trip to Portugal.

Cons: 1. They did not accept my AMEX card. Amex is a MAJOR CREDIT CARD provider questionably above VISA at the moment. I was forced to pay 120 EUR above list price to get some full cover insurance bullshit. A part from this there were some local charges and the cherry on the top was being unable to pay some toll device which would allow me to use motorways. On complaint Goldcar representatives advices me that there is no way to go around this so I would be forced to use national roads only.
