Cons: They tried multiple times to do the hard sell on insurance. I repeatedly said no. The tone by the agent was awful. It was like she got comp'ed on selling additional insurance. I was also nearly strong armed into having to use a credit card (without having one on me) but if you paid for the insurance, you wouldnt have to pay the desposit up front. I didnt have a credit card, so I had to pay the whole deposit up front. NOT a great experience!

I was not even able to do the explanation of the insurance, they were immediately rude and wanted to give another insurance for 177eur. We willl never take Goldcar again for rental.

Because we had purchased a liability waiver with Discover Cars already, we didn't. Luckily we didn't need any roadside assistance, but it is not client friendly not to have any phone number at all. I also find it strange that there is no spare tyre in the car.

We emailed the night before to say could we change but did not receive a reply. So we just arrived to enquire. We later changed to 9 am and paid an extra €15 which was fine. When we returned she was not serving us and another lady was and she was very helpful. Amanda was very kind also when I returned the car we had no problems thank god and will try again the next time.

Cons: I had booked the car for the morning as was unsure of flight time when booking. I arrived to collect the car in the afternoon and was told that my booking had expired. Gold Car wanted to charge me almost 3X the price originally booked for. Forfeited the booking cost and went next door to Hertz and picked up a car on the spot for the original cost. Was a better class of car too. Will never go near Gold Car again.

Cons: All the secret costs, scaremongering that our cover wasn’t good enough, charging us £50 to hoover some sand out of the boot! Not getting a car similar to what we paid for. Paying extra online to have an in terminal car hirer, to end up having to go out of terminal with all our luggage. The car was also covered in dents and scratches. I paid more for this hirer than I normally do with others in the area for a bigger car and convenience, but ended up with far worse. Will never use again.

Cons: I had booked a Fiat panda or similar, but was given a Citrion C1 which is some what smaller. Car was overall very clean, but struggled with hills and speed would reduce very quickly, which is not very safe. Return of holding deposit took over a week to be returned, which is to long.

It felt like they were doing anything to try and take more money - for example, they charge you 120 euro for a full tank when you take the car in case you return it empty. Even though the tank only cost 50 euro to fill up. It is just a way of them holding money in the bank as they have your credit card details anyway so could just charge you at the end if you return it empty.

Cons: Didn’t like it at all! My creditcard blocked because I needed a pin for my creditcard . My signature was not enough. My husband had also a creditcard, but they didn’t accept this. They also didn’t want to change the booking on his name. Then I wanted to pay the deposit in advance, but they didn’t accept that either. They only accepted when I take a full insurance. Would cost me around 600 euro’s in total.. (instead of around 200 euro’s). This was not acceptable for us. They abuse the situation..

Cons: First of all, we received any explanation about the specificities of the car. Second, it was full of stains. Third, it had a warning about a lack of maintenance. Fourth, we were not told that we needed to clean the car before giving it back, which is quite unusual. Actually, it is the first time we rent with that condition. As we did not read the small lines of the contract and so did not clean the car, we were charged 50 euros for that, which represents 4 hours of work... Clearly a fraud!

Frustrating waste of time. Inefficient when I did manage to extend it as they couldn’t take payment so I had to go to the office on my way to return flight.

Cons: Over £2000 of unauthorised charges to our credit card for alleged misfueling with diesel which we definitely did not do, which we explained to the representative at the desk and provided a copy of the petrol receipt for the only fill up we made which illustrated petrol was used which reconciled with the mileage covered. We are currently commencing recovery measures for these over charges, but you do not need this after a very pleasant trip to Portugal.

They also kept changing the price and services included despite what was written in the contracts. The return of the car was equally bad, and we couldn't believe the terrible service was worse than the pickup.

Cons: pressure to take additional insurance by threatening with outrageous additional charges in the event of anything going wrong, i.e. over £2000 deposit in the event of damage to the car I was given the example of possible charges for scratches at €300 per scratch + the equivalent of the daily hire for every day the car is out of service. a deposit of €75 for fuel ( a full tank was €58 at a petrol station) These are just some examples. in all, a very stressful and money grabbing experience.

Cons: 1. They did not accept my AMEX card. Amex is a MAJOR CREDIT CARD provider questionably above VISA at the moment. I was forced to pay 120 EUR above list price to get some full cover insurance bullshit. A part from this there were some local charges and the cherry on the top was being unable to pay some toll device which would allow me to use motorways. On complaint Goldcar representatives advices me that there is no way to go around this so I would be forced to use national roads only.

In addition to documents mentioned previously, the customer will need the following: valid driver license, credit card on a main drivers name, Passport or ID card, booking voucher.
A deposit for a tank of fuel is required upon collecting the vehicle.
The exact deposit is determined on pick up since the amount is dependent on the type of vehicle.
If the customer takes the following extra equipment: GPS Navigation system, Toll pass / E-toll device, then an additional amount of deposit will be held on their credit card.
It is possible to leave the deposit only with following methods: MasterCard credit card, VISA credit card.
American Express, Cash, Diners is/are not accepted.
The daily limit on the card used for payment must be high enough to cover the deposit. Otherwise, purchase of the following insurance policy(ies): Super Relax Cover is mandatory.
The main driver must provide a physical payment card in their name with enough funds to cover the deposit to pick up the car. The rental company will neither accept virtual credit cards (e.g., GooglePay or ApplePay) nor someone else’s card (including family members).
Using a ferry is allowed on the previous request and for an additional charge with special permission from the car rental company.

In the event that Cross Border & Territorial Restrictions are violated, all protections lose their validity.
