I signed when collecting as the map of the car stated damage was already there. Upon return I’ve been accused of this. The woman on the help desk refused to show photo of the car prior to me collecting and refused to give time and date of picture taken, stating that was not information I am allowed to know. Goldcar have charged me for this damage.

Pros: From pick up to drop off I had an awful experience starting from them being misleading about the car I hired - I had hired a fist panda and they said that was the same as a fiat 500 which it clearly isn’t, so to get the correct sized car they made me get the next size up. Ending with when I returned the car they charged me for a tiny scratch right under the front of the car that must have been missed on the pick up inspection. In total I ended up paying about €300 more.

It wasn't there since I got the car. They did a very bad inspection and charged me for their mistake. And I paid €67 to Discover Cars for nothing.

Cons: First of all, we received any explanation about the specificities of the car. Second, it was full of stains. Third, it had a warning about a lack of maintenance. Fourth, we were not told that we needed to clean the car before giving it back, which is quite unusual. Actually, it is the first time we rent with that condition. As we did not read the small lines of the contract and so did not clean the car, we were charged 50 euros for that, which represents 4 hours of work... Clearly a fraud!

Cons: Felt ripped off with mandatory airport fees and extortionate added insurance products. Base price was €38, overall cost in excess of €200. Car had lots of damage at beginning of rental and had to wait 45+ minutes to collect.

Frustrating waste of time. Inefficient when I did manage to extend it as they couldn’t take payment so I had to go to the office on my way to return flight.

Cons: Over £2000 of unauthorised charges to our credit card for alleged misfueling with diesel which we definitely did not do, which we explained to the representative at the desk and provided a copy of the petrol receipt for the only fill up we made which illustrated petrol was used which reconciled with the mileage covered. We are currently commencing recovery measures for these over charges, but you do not need this after a very pleasant trip to Portugal.

Cons: The staff other than verbally gave me no confirmation of full tank, car returned as rented. There was a really long wait, each customer took at least 15 mins, people were very nice however even with 4 people on I waited 40 mins to be dealt with. I then has a surprising €102 retained on my card for petrol, that was not written in the paperwork up front.

Cons: The staff was rude, disorganized and unprofessional. They couldn't complete the paperwork and couldn't find our car. They also kept changing the price and services included despite what was written in the contracts. The return of the car was equally bad, and we couldn't believe the terrible service was worse than the pickup.

Cons: The member of staff when we collected the car was uninterested and did not inspire confidence in our decision to use gold car. When asked a question she merely shrugged and have no proper answer and she did not point out existing damage on the car when we collected it even though it was marked on the check sheets.

Cons: pressure to take additional insurance by threatening with outrageous additional charges in the event of anything going wrong, i.e. over £2000 deposit in the event of damage to the car I was given the example of possible charges for scratches at €300 per scratch + the equivalent of the daily hire for every day the car is out of service. a deposit of €75 for fuel ( a full tank was €58 at a petrol station) These are just some examples. in all, a very stressful and money grabbing experience.

Cons: Trying to push extra insurance on you, the lower damage limit seems very high for such low-value cars. When returning the car, one guy behaved very aggressively (having a bad day) - parked cars and bumped into the car in front. He should rather be laid off than spread bad wibes.

Cons: 1. They did not accept my AMEX card. Amex is a MAJOR CREDIT CARD provider questionably above VISA at the moment. I was forced to pay 120 EUR above list price to get some full cover insurance bullshit. A part from this there were some local charges and the cherry on the top was being unable to pay some toll device which would allow me to use motorways. On complaint Goldcar representatives advices me that there is no way to go around this so I would be forced to use national roads only.

Cons: Being totally ripped offf. As a family on a tight budget a budget car nearly tripled in cost to us and ruined our holiday as we had less spending money!
