Cons: Warning light on car for tyre problem came on 500 yards from pick up, had to go back and they assured me it was ok. Following day I managed to find the reset option on the car and all was ok. Would have been nice not to have had the worry.

Cons: The time taken to pick up the car. 3 people at checkin which seemed sufficient as we were next. 20 minutes later the same 3 people were still at the desk. Online booking covers a lot of questions that are then repeated at the Goldcar desk. With the details they have from you and the information you gave me it seems simple: Passport, credit card keys!

Cons: Goldcar tried very hard to persuade me to buy an extra insurance in case of an accident. I had already included that insurance with discovercars, so I told them it was covered. But she insisted it would be problematic in case of an accident for example and could end up in thousands of euros. The insurance she was trying to sell me costs more than the rental price! I did not appreciate these scare tactics to get extra money! I didn't buy it, but it left an uneasy feeling...

Cons: The first car we were given broke down on the first day of rental resulting in a 3hr wait on the roadside awaiting assistance and recovery. They have a very poor recovery process in place and the whole episode ruined the first day of our holiday as it took the whole day to get recovery, transport back to the car hire in Faro and collect a second car.

Cons: The offered car was a real wreck, dirty and full of bumps/scratches on all sides with over 100,000 Km on board, a possible traffic hazard. And this was the second car offered because the first one had so many defects that even the Goldcar application used by the parking agent mentioned that it cannot be offered for rent. I was charged extra for a diesel car (even though I didn't ask for a diesel car) and in the end I got a petrol car, I'm waiting to see if Goldcar will return the unfairly charge
Cons: Goldcar were entirely unreasonable about the most invisible scratches which didn’t show on camera and which I had agreed was dirt upon collection. I acted in good faith and did not take a close up photo of it which they charged me an insane amount for on collection. I could not believe that out of the blue they were so rude. I’d gone Goldcar as I thought they were trustworthy but never again, I was quite shaken by the whole experience.

Cons: Complaint: Absolutely abysmal service. Goldcar charged for a ‘forced lock’ on drivers side of door. Damage already there when I collected to rent. I signed when collecting as the map of the car stated damage was already there. Upon return I’ve been accused of this. The woman on the help desk refused to show photo of the car prior to me collecting and refused to give time and date of picture taken, stating that was not information I am allowed to know. Goldcar have charged me for this damage.

Fyi, we refilled the car to full at the airport petrol station when we returned for our flights home and dropped the car off. In addition, we had also paid £72 to your website for insurance which we were told was invalid by Goldcar so we are hundreds of pounds out of pocket.

Pros: From pick up to drop off I had an awful experience starting from them being misleading about the car I hired - I had hired a fist panda and they said that was the same as a fiat 500 which it clearly isn’t, so to get the correct sized car they made me get the next size up. Ending with when I returned the car they charged me for a tiny scratch right under the front of the car that must have been missed on the pick up inspection. In total I ended up paying about €300 more.
Cons: They tried multiple times to do the hard sell on insurance. I repeatedly said no. The tone by the agent was awful. It was like she got comp'ed on selling additional insurance. I was also nearly strong armed into having to use a credit card (without having one on me) but if you paid for the insurance, you wouldnt have to pay the desposit up front. I didnt have a credit card, so I had to pay the whole deposit up front. NOT a great experience!

Because we had purchased a liability waiver with Discover Cars already, we didn't. Luckily we didn't need any roadside assistance, but it is not client friendly not to have any phone number at all. I also find it strange that there is no spare tyre in the car.

Cons: The lady at reception was rude and very unhelpful when we arrived at 7.30 as we said we were going to pick up at 11. We emailed the night before to say could we change but did not receive a reply. So we just arrived to enquire. We later changed to 9 am and paid an extra €15 which was fine. When we returned she was not serving us and another lady was and she was very helpful. Amanda was very kind also when I returned the car we had no problems thank god and will try again the next time.

Gold Car wanted to charge me almost 3X the price originally booked for. Forfeited the booking cost and went next door to Hertz and picked up a car on the spot for the original cost. Was a better class of car too. Will never go near Gold Car again.

Pros: Nothing- felt robbed. Never been so disgruntled with a car hirer in faro, as I am with this one.
Cons: All the secret costs, scaremongering that our cover wasn’t good enough, charging us £50 to hoover some sand out of the boot! Not getting a car similar to what we paid for. Paying extra online to have an in terminal car hirer, to end up having to go out of terminal with all our luggage. The car was also covered in dents and scratches. I paid more for this hirer than I normally do with others in the area for a bigger car and convenience, but ended up with far worse. Will never use again.

Cons: I had booked a Fiat panda or similar, but was given a Citrion C1 which is some what smaller. Car was overall very clean, but struggled with hills and speed would reduce very quickly, which is not very safe. Return of holding deposit took over a week to be returned, which is to long.

It felt like they were doing anything to try and take more money - for example, they charge you 120 euro for a full tank when you take the car in case you return it empty. Even though the tank only cost 50 euro to fill up. It is just a way of them holding money in the bank as they have your credit card details anyway so could just charge you at the end if you return it empty.
