Sonic Car Rental at Orlando Airport

Pros: Nothing!!! This was a scam. The price went up! We received the wrong car

Cons: The insurance coverage they required was impossible under my personal insurance so I had to buy their insurance. The planned or quoted price ended up being over twice what I walked in thinking it would be. The whole process of checking in and renting the car took 20-30 minutes. And an additional 30 minutes for them to prep the suv and clean it. The gas tank wasn’t full. The center console of the car and inside of the windshield was dirty. The car’s exterior was not in good condition at all.

Cons: My flight was delayed, and therefore I was late for my scheduled pick up time. I called the company who told me that they had cancelled my booking. I asked if they could assist and arrange a car somehow. They said they have no cars left, they had given away the cars that were reserved for me. I was left with nothing. Not a good experience, and not good customer service - no desire to help, assist or find a solution to my problem. Just got told to go elsewhere. Really poor.

Cons: On arrival at the airport we tried to call Sonic as instructed but took several attempts to get through. 20 mins wait for pick up. On arrival we were told the car we had booked several months ago was not available so we could either have a smaller car or be taken back to the airport. We took the smaller car. Another family who also couldn’t have the car they had booked went back to the airport. We were charged double the amount we had been originally quoted due to various ‘taxes’.

Pros: Location of Sonic Car Rental is a 15 minute drive from the airport. This is too much of an inconvenience when I had to return the car at 6am for my return flight.

Cons: There were all these additional charges at the counter. Another $15/day for highway tolls and they said it was mandatory or they would get fined. We were required to pay both $30 a day for collision and liability. Evidently in the state of Florida it doesn’t accept collision through your credit card carrier. Our $900 rental was going to end up costing $1500. I cancelled my rental and went somewhere else. I have yet to get my deposit back.

Cons: The agent would not accept our car insurance through Farmer's stating that we needed $300,000 in coverage. When we asked him why other car rental agencies have accepted our insurance in the past, he said that Discover Cars forces him to do this. We hired an Uber to take us to our hotel and found another car rental the following morning. This was a terrible experience. Change your policy or drop Sonic from your list of providers -- someone is wasting my time and that of future customers.

They also pushed their toll transponders on everyone there, hard ("there's a $30 fine for every toll without a transponder"), even though all tolls in Florida were suspended at the time. Pickup took over an hour. This place is upper crooked and you should be ashamed of selling their services.

We did an onlien reservation that took our money and never informed us about a very small selected group of car insurance companies that we had to have and were being forced to purchase insurance through you, even though we already we have quite a generous comprehensive insurance coverage.

My flight from Sydney to the US was cancelled and rescheduled, which meant my flight into Orlando didn't get there until late at night - after hours. Sonic Car Rental had a team member available who even picked us up from the airport and sorted out the car rental for us. The car was perfect for what I needed for my visit. I would definitely use Sonic Car Rental again.

There is no landline at the business, there is no shuttle, bus, and a shady guy will communicate with you to try to pick you up in an unmarked vehicle, where no one has had proven background checks.

I even received a text from them prior to my arrival in Orlando, asking me for the preference of my car, etc. The entire team was quick in responding to the questions we had. They also explained everything in detail about the terms and conditions of renting the car to avoid any misunderstanding later on. Overall, a great experience, and wouldn't hesitate in recommending SONIC car to my family members and friends.

Cons: Stuck in a corner with toll payments. We only drove the car for 2 of the 4 days we had it but had to pay for the tolls every day. They aren’t helpful with the options just explain the best is the most expensive.

Cons: Unadvertised extra fees for tolls, will try and sell extra insurance (not required) Initial quote over £200 cheaper than initial quotes from big rental companies like Sixt or Alamo however after paying the extra toll cost ($14.99 a day) it ended up being slightly more expensive. Discover cars platform should be more honest about these additional costs however so you don’t find out when you’re there.

Cons: Sonic’s vehicles have a SunPass mini fitted so the prepaid lanes can be used; however, only if you agree to pay $12.99 per day or you have to stay away from any toll gate (you can’t use the cash lanes!) as the transponder could trigger the charge and you’ll get a $30 charge for your trouble. This makes the SunPass “facility” a serious inconvenience if you don’t pay the daily charge, which you are never going to recoup. Sonic should charge a flat fee for tolls, then refund what isn’t used.
