Car Rental in Funchal

An amazing and very welcoming island with stunning and diverse landscape. Getting out of Funchal and exploring it has been a massive +. Restaurants are disappointing overall (Sabor a Fado excluded - truly, a not to be missed experience!).

Loved having a small car, perfect for driving madeira's small roads, easy to park. Saw all of madeira on half a tank of gas.

We visited Porto Moniz, Seixal, Santana, Cabo Girao, Pico de Arrieho , good car and good roads !!! Thank you for the amazing holidays!

Plenty of hiking, swimming, viewpoints, and mountain peaks. Madeira is very steep, so a decent car is important.

Madeira is beautiful, lot of things to see and to so...wish I stayed more

We went to Levada das 25 Fondes, Pico do Arieiro and took a roadtrip around the island. Very nice travel destinations.

Madeira is not easy to drive but the nature and the views are amazing! The weather is maybe one of the bests in the whole world.

NYE fireworks were excellent, levada 25 fontes and pico de arieiro were really good walks. The food hall down from The Pub number 2 is excellent, as was Jagada 2 down from that. Poncha is fantastic and so is Bolo de caco

Madeira has absolutely amazing hiking trails! Loved the nature.

I drove 400 km in Madeira Islanda,visited most of important destinations. The car was a Citroen C3 ,good for Madeira excelent infeastructure

views and location was wonderful. a bit more crowded than we would have liked, but overall lovely

I visit regularly so I have done & been everywhere

We drove on Madeira Island over two days, once we picked up the car we drove up and up and up to get to the 25 waterfalls hike. The hike wasn’t worth it in our opinion, I’m sure there are better ones. Then to Porto Moniz and Sexial Beach. There was lots of fog, but nothing to do about that. The waterfall by Sexial Beach was cool regardless of the lack of sun. The car we rented was a bit too weak for the hills in my opinion (was a bit nervous sometimes) but it was nice having a small car. VE4 is easily the best way to get across the island. I can recommend Cavacas natural pools closer to Funchal in place of Porto Moniz natural pools (smaller, but closer to Funchal). Pico Ruvio at dawn is SO worth it (wear a headlamp around your neck when hiking before sunrise) HIGHLY recommend “Madeira Top Sunrise” hike with Carlos (book via Viator). 150% worth the early start and the insane amount of steps.

Used the car to get to lavadas we’d never walked before. Also got to the other, less well known cable car.

We succeded to see all corners of this beautifull island in 14days. Amazing islanx and very friendly people even more when you speak portuguese.

Nature was incredible. We ate very well. The weather was great.

Easy driving if you are good with manual. Roads are very well maintained.

The trip was amazing and the car was very appropriate considering we did a lot of hikes and went up very steep roads.

Beautiful island but not for the faint of heart for driving. Roads are steep, narrow and parking is difficult if not impossible in some places.

Porto Moniz, Santana, a couple of levadas, Porto Santo. All lovely places, easy to get to, even on Madeira's terrifying roads.

The sound of the car was sometimes weird but probably because of the hilly roads.

Exploring Madeira by car is definitely the way to go. Beautiful drives on the winding roads in the mountain. The views are amazing and this is by far the best way to access all the beautiful hiking trails Madeira has to offer.

Madeira is an astonishingly beautiful island, offering a feast for the eyes, taste buds, and all other senses. It certainly merits a visit, and having a car allows you to explore the island on your schedule and your terms. Unfortunately, swimming in the midst of winter is not an option, but then again - there are tourist crowds and most tourist sites are yours to explore in relative piece and quiet.

Smart cars are best to visit Funchal or any European cities for that matter.
