Cons: had to return first car as aircon not working, second car was covered in scrapes, they seem to be claiming that some are added by us (untrue) - they seem to be scammers

Cons: Goldcar agent told us the car we had ordered wasn’t good enough for Madeira and we needed to upgrade, which we refused. Then insisted we had to have full insurance, which we refused, as we had a separate policy but she became so aggressive we eventually agreed but was double the cost of the hire.

When we delivered the car, Goldcar tried to charge us for a tiny scratch in the plastic that was there before we rented the car. It is very important that you take close up detailed pictures of the entire car before you leave the parkinglot!!!

Cons: Employee said that they are not accepting revolut cerdit card and showed statue to me and there wasnt such information (I had visa card as expected) and she charged me additional 160 euro for full coverage. She is additionally rude. I dont reccomend it to anyone even if you want save some money on rental. Additionally they marked that i made scratch on doors, but i have video from pickup on which it is visible that there was this scratch done before my rental

Cons: The representative was terrible, she told us the car we had ordered would struggle to get up the hills and to upgrade, if we got a puncture we would have to replace two tyres, told us Discovery car’s voucher was basically worthless and we would have to take out their insurance as well to be fully covered for an extra €150.00 ,€134.00 deposit for fuel . At this point we left got the bus hired a car off Charme Rent a Car who were fantastic oils be more helpful , delivered the car to our hotel

Cons: The car was a dreadful thing. Old, front rubber valance flapping, front right tire bald in the middle, rear tyre pressures 1.5 and 1.7 when should be 2.3, front tyres 2.9 when should be 2.3. Damage to car not on the condition form when we collected the vehicle, so I had to point it out to them.

Cons: In their e-mail it states you can pay with debit and credit card. But you cannot use your debit car without also paying for the extra insurance that’s a scam and total unacceptable. My wife was added as 2nd driver and we couldn’t use her credit card either.

Cons: Goldcar nous a fait payer un supplément de 345€ pour avoir un surclassement et surtout sur le fait que nous avions pas de carte de crédit alors que nous avions déjà payer pour avoir une voiture (fiat panda) de 75€ avec assurance comprise. La compréhension était limite.

Rear screen wiper broken. Steering wheel vibrating at higher speeds and right front wheel making noises at turns. We had to go back and exchange it. I will never use Goldcar again.

After I learned that it was easy to return the car afterhours, I wanted to keep the car until the morning of the departure. They asked us a full day of charge which is about 100 euros, even though it was within 24 hours of the last day of the hire. I got an impression that they take advantage of the slight concern or mistake of the customer to make $.

Cons: The agent at the desk told me my third party rental insurance cover did not cover all eventualities (this wasnt true when I checked it later) and upsold zero excess cover. Each car (we had to get a replacement car after few days) had fault lights develop (incl engine fault which agent told us was pretty common). Multiple trips back to the car rental location as a result for replacements/maintenance. Nobody there to receive car on return, no communication or confirmation sent.

Pros: Generally Goldcar is one of the most problematic companies, not to say the most terrible from the big ones.I had so many problems with them, for example in Spain at multiple locations.But when not having much choice now for this last minute rental, considering the very high pruces of the other companies and the bad experience with Centauro at OPO I had in June, plus the quite good service in the Portugese islands I had in general, I decided to risk and test Goldcar Portugal.And it was OK overall

Cons: Depois de ter feito uma reserva com a Discovery Cars, onde aluguei uma viatura com Seguro Full Coverage, a GoldCar recusou a entrega da viatura e o pagamento do valor remanescente em falta, tendo obrigado ao pagamento suplementar de 242,34€ que foi feito pelo facto de não ter alternativa e estar com familiares a meu cargo (uma pessoa idosa e a minha esposa grávida). Aluguei um carro de 5 lugares a gasolina, tendo me sido entregue um carro a diesel e cobrado uma taxa de 24.59€.

Pros: Nothing! I feel we were totally ripped off and overcharged. The car was dangerous due to brakes that juddered every time you used them and on our 3rd day of use the red warning light came on saying STOP because there was no water left in it.

Cons: Everything! We were ripped off because we were charged on our credit card for things we never asked for by someone Portuguese who spoke little English and we spoke no Portuguese. Very bad experience will never use GOLDCAR again .
