Cons: The car was damaged a LOT more than the email said. In fact when we got to the car we spoke to one of the staff members and she had to write a list of about 20 x more damage than the paperwork. She said she would email us an updated copy with all of the damage but never received despite emailing them a few times. We explained this upon drop off and it was fine but it only because we checked and spoke to the staff on collection that they realised their records didn’t match the cars condition.

Pros: We booked a mini convertible to Madeira Rent car rental we found a much larger T-Roc convertible, which we really appreciated! The Madeira rent office is just outside the baggage claim area, we arrived at 10pm and the employee was very friendly. The car park is just outside the terminal, about 100 metres. Highly recommended!

If you book the smallest available car you're told that something else for a small price will have a bigger engine and is better for the mountains etc. In fact this is not true as most locals have as small a car as possible. As a tourist getting a slightly bigger car can make driving on the narrow roads much more difficult.

When we arrived to pick up our vehicle we were shocked to see that we’d been given a 5 seater with 2 pull down seats that only kids could use in the boot therefore meaning zero space for ANY luggage. Despite us showing the agent the clear words 7 SEATER VAN and then looking at our 5 seater hatchback he insisted that was the vehicle we booked.

We had to pay €85 extra for the week to get a 1.3L vs 0.9L car. Despite the fact that we had booked an automatic C/D group car. This ended up paying over €520 for a weeks car hire of a golf - hence my lower score for value for money. Otherwise very happy with the company.

Instead We were given the Fiat500 w/a semiautomatic transmission & the car was an absolute disaster to drive. It would downshift randomly (middle of the highway going 70k), would give low oil pressure warnings on big hills (in Madeira, all roads are hills), & would switch from automatic to manual on it's own. Cons: Staff did not inspect the car with us when picked up the car. Quite sneaky. She just asked us to take pictures whenever I saw scratch and dents different from their pre-inspected car.

Pros: Brakes on first car were shot (vibrate badly at highway speed). Madeira Rent was good to give a replacement no hassle.

Cons: Arrived 30 minutes early and they tried to up sell as only thing available. Waited 30 minutes and got original car, cold.

Cons: Easy to find the rental - not so easy to find the car.... Car was quite a lot under powered.

Pros: Booked a small car (Peugeot 208 or similar), received a brand new Peugeot 308, we were very happy with the car. Good prices compared to competitors in Madeira. The blocked deposit on my credit card was released very quickly after returning the car, which was very appreciated. With other companies I sometimes needed to wait for days. Quick handover of car for both pick up and return.

Cons: Only 2 small remarks - the front window wasn't very well cleaned from the inside, so the visibility wasn't good when there was sunlight coming in directly from the front - nothing major though. And second, I didn't find the paperwork I was signing during pick up 100% clear and I didn't see the picture with the existing damages marked in this paperwork until returning the car - but maybe this was because the car was in almost perfect condition.

Cons: De rental desk agent was suspicious. We think he had a trick to make sure our two credit cards didn’t work, so we had no option but to buy an expensive insurance before he would let us have the car. Our credit cards worked before that moment and also worked the next day

Pros: Reserving and picking the car up was equally simple. Rental agent was friendly and explained everything quick and simple. It helped that he also knew english well.

Cons: Wish it was easier to find the car. The rental agent gave me directions but it looked like it was parked in the street, Didn’t look like part of the parking lot. So Maybe have a better sign regarding the company name for people who arrive at after the sun goes down like in my case. Other than that…super easy.

Pros: The car was clean and what we wanted. The return was easy and the pick up went pretty well.

Cons: I did not like that we were told we had to use the credit card that we used to book the car (AMEX) and then were told that your company does not take AMEX. This did not interfere with us at all, but was not consistent. Mostly, I did not like the upsell effort to an SUV that would have been difficult to use on such narrow roads. I also though the price to be high.
