Pros: We received a new, clean car, and all the terms were clearly explained and honored. Madeira Rent has a branch right at the airport where we picked up the vehicle, and when returning it, we simply dropped the keys into a drop-box at the airport. I recommend Madeira Rent to everyone and hope you have just as great an experience

Cons: They were dishonest at the pickup: they did not point out what they later claimed was damage (two small paint chips on the door side, each only a few millimeters wide, which were probably already there at the time of pickup. They are barely visible in the video I recorded upon arrival because it was 11 PM).

Cons: When making reservation, it was writen that the policy is full gas tank at pick up and drop of. It was half empty. The fiat grande panda is for you at the same group as peugeot 2008. At the pickup employee was very disturbing by forsing an extra coverage and stronger car. Dissaster.

Cons: I booked an ID.3 electric and received an Peugeot 208 on the first day due to some excuses and afterward they said I would get a 308 in but at the end it was a Nissan Leaf, which is definitely not the same compact class! After complaining in Funchal they said, that they don't have any 308. Additionally I had to pay 280 Euros at the airport because I could not make a deposit of 2'800 Euros (available balance was 2'500 Euros) and with the huge queue in the back I had to pay it to the get the car.

The agent tried to persuade me to take an intermediate car (for 2 people with only hand luggage) saying an economy car wouldn’t get up the hills! In the end after I stood my ground we got the car we had ordered with no extra insurance but it was an unnecessary hassle. No problem at drop off though.

Cons: The car was damaged a LOT more than the email said. In fact when we got to the car we spoke to one of the staff members and she had to write a list of about 20 x more damage than the paperwork. She said she would email us an updated copy with all of the damage but never received despite emailing them a few times. We explained this upon drop off and it was fine but it only because we checked and spoke to the staff on collection that they realised their records didn’t match the cars condition.

He sent us searching for the car as he didn't provide the spot of the car in the parking lot. Heard the pitch to many others also! And simultaniously made us wait 45 minutes until the exact pickup time becayse the car "was not clean yet". Bs.

Pros: We booked a mini convertible to Madeira Rent car rental we found a much larger T-Roc convertible, which we really appreciated! The Madeira rent office is just outside the baggage claim area, we arrived at 10pm and the employee was very friendly. The car park is just outside the terminal, about 100 metres. Highly recommended!

I arrived 45 minutes before the scheduled pick ho and they said to me that my car (economic one) was not ready and then they proposed for an extra payment in order to get a crossover or I had to wait. As a tourist getting a slightly bigger car can make driving on the narrow roads much more difficult.

Cons: Will never use again because car description very misleading when you book. We booked a 7 seater van as we had a family of 6 persons. When we arrived to pick up our vehicle we were shocked to see that we’d been given a 5 seater with 2 pull down seats that only kids could use in the boot therefore meaning zero space for ANY luggage. Despite us showing the agent the clear words 7 SEATER VAN and then looking at our 5 seater hatchback he insisted that was the vehicle we booked.

This ended up paying over €520 for a weeks car hire of a golf - hence my lower score for value for money. Otherwise very happy with the company.

Pros: I thought they were the best car rental company I have ever dealt with. Everyone was super friendly and great at explaining!! Just amazing

Cons: My maintenance light came on (I mistook it for a check engine) email service was response during the week and explained. The only concern was I requested on Saturday but there must not have been anyone in the office over the weekend. Which is fine and I totally respect that, but I might suggest in the automated email that they will be able to respond during normal business hours

Pros: Car rental staff was very professional and trustworthy. Overall a great experience.

Pros: They upgraded my rental to a larger 1,5 liter car, which was nice in hilly Madeira.

Cons: Because my creditcard didn't work at the booth of Madeira rent (i have had no problems with it elsewhere), i had to go for a cash insurance of €160 (plus €300 deposit) for all damages excluding windows and tires. This was annoying as i already had payed the Discover Cars insurance. The fuel in this car was 'same to same', opposing the 'full to full' i opted for when booking.

Cons: When we picked up the car They didn’t tell us their was a key card in de car, so when we wanted to drop off the car we couldn”t open the gate. So we had to drive three times around the airport!

Cons: I rented a car with full insurance on your website, but when I wanted to pick up the car I needed to pay 126 EUR for a week additional insurance, and 300 EUR deposit because I have no credit card. It was surprise for me, and I don't understand why should I pay, if I prepaid full insurance?

Pros: The representative was very professional and explained everything clearly, he offered additional features, but we did not feel pushed to purchase them. The car was very new, very clean and in a very good condition, the drop off was as smooth as it gets.

Cons: We reserved an automatic- I haven't driven a manual in years & didn't want any problems on the steep roads in Madeira... Instead We were given the Fiat500 w/a semiautomatic transmission & the car was an absolute disaster to drive. It would downshift randomly (middle of the highway going 70k), would give low oil pressure warnings on big hills (in Madeira, all roads are hills), & would switch from automatic to manual on it's own. Cons: Staff did not inspect the car with us when picked up the car. Quite sneaky. She just asked us to take pictures whenever I saw scratch and dents different from their pre-inspected car.

Pros: Brakes on first car were shot (vibrate badly at highway speed). Madeira Rent was good to give a replacement no hassle.

Cons: Arrived 30 minutes early and they tried to up sell as only thing available. Waited 30 minutes and got original car, cold.

Cons: Easy to find the rental - not so easy to find the car.... Car was quite a lot under powered.

Pros: Booked a small car (Peugeot 208 or similar), received a brand new Peugeot 308, we were very happy with the car. Good prices compared to competitors in Madeira. The blocked deposit on my credit card was released very quickly after returning the car, which was very appreciated. With other companies I sometimes needed to wait for days. Quick handover of car for both pick up and return.

Cons: Only 2 small remarks - the front window wasn't very well cleaned from the inside, so the visibility wasn't good when there was sunlight coming in directly from the front - nothing major though. And second, I didn't find the paperwork I was signing during pick up 100% clear and I didn't see the picture with the existing damages marked in this paperwork until returning the car - but maybe this was because the car was in almost perfect condition.

Pros: Reserving and picking the car up was equally simple. Rental agent was friendly and explained everything quick and simple. It helped that he also knew english well.

Cons: Wish it was easier to find the car. The rental agent gave me directions but it looked like it was parked in the street, Didn’t look like part of the parking lot. So Maybe have a better sign regarding the company name for people who arrive at after the sun goes down like in my case. Other than that…super easy.

Cons: I did not like that we were told we had to use the credit card that we used to book the car (AMEX) and then were told that your company does not take AMEX. This did not interfere with us at all, but was not consistent. Mostly, I did not like the upsell effort to an SUV that would have been difficult to use on such narrow roads. I also though the price to be high.
