Cassiano's Rent A Car at Madeira Funchal Airport

Pros: I liked the speed and efficiency in dropping off the car at the end of the rental period.

Cons: Pick up from the airport took a 45 min wait while other rental companies vans were coming more frequently

Cons: First the pickup at the airport was delayed at least 30 minutes - we called their 2 numbers, no reply, once we got to the counter the Agent tried to upsell the extra insurance - 295 euros for 8 days when we have American Express Platinum card. Then the car we had registered apparently had bad brakes, and we had to open a new car contract. The new car had stratches all over, almost 70000 kms and very little power to navigate the hills in Madeira. We also noticed front tire were bald.

Cons: It looks like maintenance was due on the car, brakes sound, sometime engine sound.

Pros: Car was clean. Drop off to airport very quick.

Cons: Pick up from airport very slow. Didnt get the Panda we wanted. Brakes were bad. Window wipers didn't work.

Pros: The lady who handled our return was EXCELLENT! She communicated clearly and was polite & professional

Cons: The person I interacted with when picking up the car seemed like he was upset that we didn't choose their private insurance and gave us a different car than expected - old, backup camera worked only intermittently. Later, when I asked if we could extend for a few hours, the man who answered the phone gave me a quote for around 35euros and 10 mins later when I called to confirm the extension, he raised the price to 68euros (for 4 hrs). Not impressed at all.

Pros: Amazingly fast service for pick up and drop off. So efficient. No hassle, not trying to identify minor damage and charge you for no reason like some others do

Pros: Transfer from Airport was on a nice, clean and modern van. All the cars in the lot looked relatively new and in good condition. Drop-off required only a full tank, no need to wash or clean the car. Deposit was returned within one day.

Cons: At drop off another renter was arguing about damage to their car and it delayed everyone else while that situation was worked out. We all had to wait for transport to the airport until it was resolved. The airport is 5 minutes away and all the other renters should have been transported to the airport while the other situation was being worked out

Pros: I had a great experience renting a car from you during my recent Madeira trip. The pickup at the airport was efficient, and the rental staff were helpful. The car was reliable and suited my needs well. I also appreciated that the fuel and security deposits were returned without any problems. Thank you for a smooth and enjoyable rental experience!

Cons: If the rental confirmation included a bit more detail about the insurance coverage and deductible, it would make it even clearer for customers.

Cons: The car they gave us broke after two days - the clutch would not engage a gear. It took them forever to get the tow truck, and a taxi to get back to their rental place, we were on the other side of the island. We paid for their insurance, which meant that we did not have to return the car full of fuel. However, when giving us the new car (which went down in quality, from VW Polo to Hyundai i20), they asked us to pay for the fuel again! So it was their mistake, their car broke, not my fault!

Cons: Took 40 mins to pick the car up. The car had no power going up hills. Returning the car took ages as well, once the shuttle left we had to go via the office so someone could make a payment which added another 10 minutes. When I returned the car I told the agent that the car had no power on hills, and rather than saying "sorry about that, we'll check it out to make sure the car is working correctly for the next renter", he was completely dismissive and denied there was any problem with the car.

Pros: The pick up didn't arrive on time. We got into another minibus with the 'Discover Car' logo on the side but it took us to another rental company.

Cons: I think we got unlucky, but it took us ca. 35 minutes to get picked up by the shuttle. First we get out and there is no one there. Then they don't pick up the phone. Then we hear that they'll be there in 5-10min but it ends up being 20-25 minutes. After that, it went smoothly.

Pros: Friendly personell and quick process for the return of the car. While we didn't particularly like the car - it did do its job at the end of the day and got us everywhere.

Cons: From check in the agents were trying to upsell us pushing a bigger car and willing to negotiate the additional cost. The booking on Discover included a free additional driver but the voucher did not detail that. At check in the agent did not inform me that there was a charge for an additional driver, I was told when the car was returned that I owed an additional $75!

Cons: The car we rented had low tire pressure from the get-go, and a warning light would come on every now and then. When that happened, it felt like the car lost power and we could only drive in first gear, with the pedal pressed all the way down. When we mentioned this to the staff, they didn’t acknowledge it, they said it was normal for rental cars because they’re not driven properly. Lol. We also rented the car with a car seat and paid good money for it, but it was old and wasn’t even fitted.

When we arrive to the counter, i was last in line and it took over one hour to get my car, then they had a system issue, causing further delay. Over 1-1/2 hours to get car. Return service was also slow, having to wait 20 minutes to check in car and catch shuttle.

They weren't all marked down on the rental contract and it felt like there was a bit of inconsistency on what was "ok" and what wasn't. They took pictures of the car and told us to take pictures/videos before we drove off. In the end, we didn't have any accidents or additional marks so it was fine.

I made the agent markup and sign the contract sheet with damaged areas to the car. I didn't take the excess insurance as I had my own.

Pros: We had an issue with the first car and they changed it without a problem and even upgraded us. The second car was great. Also the worker who serviced us was very efficient and kind. Great value for money

Cons: There was a group of people for pick-up at the airport, so the lady wanted only riders to come with her. I had to leave my children at the airport. Next time I´ll rather wait for the next transport with my children.

Cons: Give us car that was not fit to climb steep hills with 3 people in it. Only admitted this upon returning the car after complaining the gears weren’t shifting correctly (automatic). Said this 4-DOOR car was meant for 1-2 people. Then why allow 3 registered drivers? Why not give us a more appropriate vehicle? Additionally, when we called to let them know the car was not functioning properly, the agent was very condescending saying it was fine. We rented a second car because this one was garbage.

Pros: Extremely pleasant staff especially at the drop off. Sadly, we had sustained some bodywork damage but she calmly & patiently helped us with all the necessary documentation, payment, etc & gave us emailed plus paper copies of everything so we could easily submit our costs to Discovery.

Cons: The car we were given was not the Skoda that we expected but a Hyundai with poor tire thread & poor power. We had to use 2nd or 3rd gear to navigate any hills even on the highways!!

Cons: The only drawback is a fact that their car park seems a little limited (we booked a compact SUV class and got Fiat Tipo which is a standard sedan/hatchback car. Pretty big into Madeiran streets.

Cons: Dodgy company 100%. Tried to pull a quick on when returning the car, said we got sun screen on the door and that it doesn’t wash out. None of us use sunscreen on our legs. Then when we took videos and caught him from the back. He asked to go through all of our phones and to delete all of them or else he wouldn’t take us to the airport and call the police. Skinny chap with a playboy tattoo on his neck. 100% stay away from this company!

Cons: You don’t get the car you chose. I reserved a small SUV (Dacia) and got a small Citroen C3. No discussion possible. Everybody is friendly until you decline the optional full insurance of their own. I already took a full option insurance with discovercars? Still they push you. Why??

Pros: Was explained very well on conditions to which needed to know re vehicle and roads plus parking etc

Cons: That as we just arrived we felt a little under pressure to take out full insurance which was not the initial intention. We changed because we were first of all told we were going to have a damaged car so then it made me to question our decision. In the end we had no issues and felt very comfortable with the vehicle hence I feel we paid an extra 180 euro unnecessarily

Cons: Instead of about 300 euros, I paid 600 euros. The reason for the price increase was unclear, and additional insurance packages were added, including life insurance. No one responded to telephone and e-mail contacts with explanations or corrections.

Cons: The drop-off took way too long. Someone from the car wash told us to wait for a representative. The first lady arrived after 15 minutes and then told us she was on break refused to answer any questions. The second lady first reviewed 3 car before we went to the shuttle. We arrived half and hour before our intial dropoff time and had to wait for a total of 45 minutes before we even went to the airport.
