From T1 terminal A and B arrival gates exit, go to the airport centre until you find the glass lifts. Get to the ground floor where the car rental offices are located and continue in the tunnel following the signs for the railway station and the Sheraton hotel. Go through the sliding doors to get out of the terminal and on the right, outside the Sheraton hotel you will find the airport shuttle bus stop, it will take you to the P6 parking lot (shuttle bus last stop). The shuttle bus runs every 20 minutes. The free shuttle service operates along the route P6 - Terminal 2 - Terminal 1 - Cargo Sud between 05:00 am and 23:00 pm every 20 minutes. The last service departs from P6 at 23:00 pm.

Airport travel guide
Located about 53 km (32 miles) to the northwest, Malpensa is the largest of the three airports serving Milan. But while most visitors make their way straight for the great northern city, the airport also provides easy access to a number of less celebrated, but equally interesting attractions in the provinces of Lombardy and Piedmont. Here are five such trips for you to consider:
- Lago de Como. The namesake city of Lake Como, Como, lies about 40 minutes northwest of Malpensa Airport. Driving along the shoreline, you will discover ornate gardens and luxurious villas, ancient towns with quaint cobblestone streets, and jaw-dropping views. Como and Bellagio are well-known, but visits to off-the-beaten-path towns like Varenna, Tremezzo, and Menaggio will be just as stunning!
- Lago Maggiore. The large and alpine Lake Maggiore is one of the most popular travel attractions in Lombardy and Piedmont. Known for its scenic coastal towns, well-preserved architecture, and a number of islands that can be visited, the area is about an hour’s drive from the Malpensa Airport. Follow the shoreline long enough and you’ll end up in neighboring Switzerland and the picturesque town of Locarno (though ask your rental car provider in advance if they permit crossing the border).
- Val Grande National Park. The drive from Malpensa takes at least an hour, but visiting the Great Valley is worth the effort. Encompassing a portion of the High Alps, this protected area is known for some of the most amazing mountain views and vistas in Europe. Located in neighboring Piedmont, the national park has no permanent population, so many areas can only be visited in the company of a guide; plus, many of the trails are steep and dangerous, so significant trekking experience may be required. Ask about this at one of the park’s three visitor centers
- Aosta Valley. Another destination that takes up to two hours to reach, but is endlessly rewarding, the autonomous community of Aosta Valley is home to the Italian side of Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn, two of the highest peaks in Europe. Naturally, there is no shortage of skiing and hiking options, although the area is also known for its thermal baths. Another notable destination is Gran Paradiso National Park, which Aosta shares with neighboring Piedmont.
- Bergamo. Much more than just the location of one of the other two international airports serving the Greater Milan area, Bergamo is one of the most beautiful cities of Lombardy. Divided into the Upper Town where most of its landmarks are located and the relatively more modern Lower Town, Bergamo is equally known for its historical heritage and delicious cuisine. Located some 93 km (58 miles) from Malpensa Airport, Bergamo can be reached by car in just an hour and 10 minutes.
- Turin. Located to the southwest, unlike Milan which is to the southeast, Turin is just a 90-minute drive from the Malpensa Airport. More important than its proximity is the fact that the fourth-largest city in Italy is also one of the country’s classiest destinations, its boulevards, architecture, and culture are celebrated by many writers and artists, and nowadays also by thousands of visitors that come to the capital of Piedmont region every year.

The car was just fine. Being a Disel it was most cost effective. The pick up is easy. Drop off took time to find the spot. There were no issues. And we had our flight cancelled and we needed to extend the rental over the phone. It would have been nice if there was some Email or Whatsapp ability to reach out to them, but luckily we had some way to make a phone call.

My husband was nervous about driving in Italy but quickly got used to it. The highways with the tolls were easy to use. He had to get used to the narrow roads with the cyclists, the scooters and fast local drivers, but got the hang of it and then also, we drove through all the cities…the navigation system was a blessing and really helped! The sights we saw and the history of the country are amazing. We stayed in Milan (although only picked up the car after Milan), Lake Como, Lake Garda, Verona, Florence and Genoa before heading back to Milan Malpensa Airport. While in Florence, we did a Cycle Tour around the mountains of Fiosole. That was a wonderful experience! We had a diesel mid-size SUV that was automatic. A great car that fit 4 of us comfortably!

( I think you need a few days to really see all of it, so it’s on my list for a future visit again. ) And the Amalfi Coast was beautiful. You can’t see all of Italy in one trip !!

The Il Fresco (Senza Glutine) bakery in Bergamo is worth the trip and truly has palette pleasing delicacies whether or not you are looking for gluten free baked goods. Any time I'm in north-central Italy, I will make sure to stop there. The views from the castle at Bergamo are stunning.

7 amazing days in Italy. First day visit center of Milano. Duomo etc. Then south of Genova in a litle town Bogliasco. We explored two days the cinque Terre then down to Pisa for a photoshooting and straight up to Verona. A trip to Venice and lake Garda in Sirmione. You should download an app about ZTL regions in the city centre's to stay safe. Respect the speed limits in order to have the best experience. Italy - a marvel - enjoy.
