We had booked a car in advance and tried to contact the Rentsmart office when we arrived in Milan Malpensa airport as we were going to be outside the one hour collection window. The phone in the office was not working for some reason. I successfully called another number immediately to ensure my phone was working properly. We made our way to the office to find our booking had been cancelled as we had missed the ridiculous collection window.

Cons: The damage sheet was covered in about 20 defects but conveniently missed the very edge of the mirror which had a tiny chip in the glass. My 3 minute video of the car also just narrowly missed the edge of the mirror but the agent immediately found it upon inspection and demanded proof to show we had not caused it which I couldn’t provide so we were charged €200.

You are walking on a thin edge here because if I would've got stuck in a parking lot under the snow for more than 5 minutes, my rating would look completely different. I had a problematic engine noise in the car without any indicator on the dashboard in the middle of my vacation and the only solution given to me was to go back to Milano to change the car which wasn't practical.

Cons: The only issue was the insurance, we had full coverage, but it seems this was with Discover Cars and not with 24 Smart. We were told in the case of any damages to the car we would have to pay at least 1000 euros, and then get reimbursed by Discover Cars, and the guy tried to get us to purchase additional insurance with them. I think both companies should have an agreement between themselves about the insurance and not expose the customers to additional expenses or stress.
