Airport travel guide

Although often overshadowed by nearby Venice, Treviso is more than just a location of a cheap airport en route to its more prominent neighbor. Known for its exquisite architecture and free spirit, this mid-sized city and its surroundings have plenty to explore. Here are three ideas for a trip to the area:
- Villas. Treviso is nothing if not its antique villas — there are more than 15 of them that have some heritage status or another. Known collectively as the Palladian villas of Veneto after the Italian architect Andrea Palladio who designed them, they can be found in Treviso, as well as the surrounding towns and villages.
- Piazza dei Signori. No visit to Treviso is complete without seeing its beating heart, Piazza dei Signori, or the Lord’s Square. Located in the old town, it is home to several famous landmarks such as the Trecento Palace and sculptures of the Lion of Saint Mark; others, like the Cathedral of St. Paul the Apostle, are just a short walk away.
- Padua. Most tourists who come to the area combine seeing Treviso with a trip to Venice, but the historical city of Padua is another destination worthy of your visiting list. Known for its millennia-old roots of faith and learning, it is home to several very impressive churches and palaces, a well-preserved former Jewish quarter, and busy contemporary culture. The drive from Treviso to Padua takes only about 50 minutes.
- Venice. A visit to Venice from Treviso is a convenient and popular trip, typically taking less than an hour by train. Once in Venice, travelers can explore the city's iconic canals and historic landmarks, such as St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace, and immerse themselves in the unique Venetian culture and cuisine, making it a memorable day trip for those staying in Treviso.
