SIXT at Madeira Funchal Airport

Pros: Only the drop-off was easy.

Cons: The car that we got had issues with the rear Brakes, rear braking pads on the driver site were gone, on the other side was stil good almost unused. Man could hear the noises two metals sliding on each other. The Sixt agent the most arrogant one i ever met in my life. Didnt let me use my prepaid card with which i paid my whole trip cause it was prepaid and not credit card. Never gonna be going to sixt again.

Cons: The car was old and clearly needed maintenance. Considering the conditions of Madeira with a lot of uphill/downhill roads, it is even more important to have a car you can trust!

Cons: We booked a premium hatchback (Audi A3) and were told that none were available so we had a free upgrade to Nissan Quasqai. Not only is this not the same type of car but it was a less expensive car, not an upgrade. Not only that but it had a slow puncture so we wasted time on our holiday sorting it out.

Cons: The SIXT car rental agent used cheap sales tricks to sell full car insurance. I told him I already had full Discovercars car insurance. He said that Discovercars insurance could not be trusted and that it was therefore necessary to buy the insurance offered by SIXT. He also threatened that there was a good chance that someone would damage my car and drive away from the scene. As a customer, I was very uncomfortable being pressured to pay twice for the same thing.

Cons: We moesten 2 x opleggen voor 0 euro franchise We kregen een minderwaardige wagen dan betaald... op andere sotes was die Dacia enkele 100 euro's goedkoper. Remmen waren niet ok. Motor te zwak om in Madeira rond te rijden. Was volgetankt met minderwaardige super95 ipv 98. Dat hebben heel duidelijk gemerkt als we zelf tankten met super98. 1 van de zetels op de 3de rij ging niet omhoog.

Cons: Not fussed with the aesthetics but a damaged car at pick up has potential disputes at drop off. Some very clear impacts, some scrapes and dents not always so noticeable. It was explained at pick up small scrapes were not considered damage, but 'small' is a matter of opinion. At drop off close scrutiny found a very 'small' nick on a tyre on the prepickup damaged wheel arch became an issue. Luckily I had photos. If damage is charged for it should be repaired and not an issue for next client

Cons: Yo, gotta share my awful experience with this car rental company. They charged me a ridiculous 300 euros for a tiny scratch on the bumper. When I asked for a breakdown of the repair costs and a justified response, they straight up ignored me. Terrible service, zero transparency. Avoid this place like the plague.

Pros: Really easy to find, literally next to the doors as you exit.

Cons: We had pre-paid for a compact SUV but when we arrived the guy said it would only be a 1litre engine and if we wanted to go up hills (which is everywhere really) this probably wouldn't really do it for usbl, so I would say it's a waste of time booking a compact SUV. The guy at the rental desk sorted us out so we got an upgrade for not much extra and we definitely felt it was worth it.

Cons: Car selection. I bought the category of Renault Megane and VW Golf with a 1.4 engine, because I knew that Madeira requires a strong engine. Then, they told me to run out of these cars, Skoda Scala with a 0.9 engine is available, but it is not strong enough. So I needed to pay 10 EUR extra for each day!

Cons: Only one thing, the person who collected the car did not have a record of the existing scratches/dents the car had when it was handed over to us, so she pointed out these scratches to us and said that these were the damages which must be noted. However, we had pictures taken of these very scratches when we had rented out the car on the first day and showed them as proof as preexisting scratches which she accepted without any doubt. But still it would have been good if these were on her record.

We felt trapped, not matter how many time we said we didn’t want to buy anything extra or any upgrades! Discovercars was great as always but the experience at sixt was very different from the other companies where we rented cars from

Cons: The problem was the car had an incredible amount of damage on it, which in hindsight I should have declined. When reviewing the car on pick up we had quite a list of things to note. I didn't realize that one of the scratches was not on the extensive list and as such we were dinged it on our return.
