GaldieriRent at Rome Airport Fiumicino

Pros: There was a beeping sound every time we hit the gas during the middle of the trip. Our parking attendant fixed it.

Cons: We had an international driver's permit but for some reason the agent didnt accept it and charged us extra 40€/ day for 7 days "without having the permit" (which we infact had on my mobile phone) to purchase insurance WHEN FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE WAS ALREADY PURCHASED thru the website. So we basically paid double. He was targeting tourists for sure. Never again.

Pros: Gualdieri rent : Left stranded without a car. Mid June, we rented a car from Gualdieri rent in Fiumicino (Rome airport) through Discover cars (confirmation number D010722169-DHS5). We had rented several times before with Discover cars in many european countries with no problem whatsoever. This time (and for the first time in decades of travelling to Europe), we were denied our paid for rental when showing our Canadian drivers licence in spite of the fact that the contract states that :

Cons: A driver license printed using a non-Roman alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc) must be supplemented by an International Driving Permit. ». Canadian driver licences are written in French or in English thus in Roman letters. Basically we were left stranded without a car and no refund. As we had booked several reservations in Toscany, we returned to the airport and rented a car with one of the well established car rental companies and had no problems whatsoever with our Canadian drivers lic

Pros: They replaced the car without issue after the first car was burglared.

Cons: They did not accept my Singapore driver licence in English and insisted on an international licence. They also did not accept my credit card that had no credit card number printed on it for security purposes. They could accept both my Singapore licence and credit card IF I paid Euros 378.20 more for insurance that I already bought with DiscoverCars. When I returned the car, they did not refund me the Euros 100 deposit!

Pros: Airport pickup and drop-off were helpful, but we had to call GaldieriRent to get the driver to pick us up, as he initially refused. Once that was resolved, the shuttle and drop-off went smoothly.

Cons: We didn’t like being forced to pay an extra 378.20 Euros for insurance at pickup, even though we had already purchased full coverage through DiscoverCars.com. It felt unfair and left us with no choice.

Cons: Since I was not completely familiar with the type of vehicle I rented, I would have expected to receive an explanation regarding the operation of the vehicle and its various systems, upon receiving the vehicle. Although I insisted and received an explanation from the company, I would have expected it to happen at the company's initiative. Such an explanation can make it easier for the renter to learn the use of the vehicle more quickly, in the most efficient way.

When we dropped the car back off they didn't give us a receipt to prove we had dropped off and a day later got a call saying we hadn't dropped the car off. But, we had. One of the workers had grabbed the car immediately upon drop off. Not great communication amongst them.

Cons: I couldn’t find the rental pick up location. I tried calling the car rental place numerous times and they didn’t pick up the phone. I eventually arrived late and they’d cancelled my booking (despite pre-paying). I was charged an extra €130 euros to “rebook”, even though the car was there waiting for me.

Cons: The car had tree sap all over it. There was no washer fluid in the reservoir. We really could not see through the windshield after we left the lot.

He wanted to force us to cancel our insurance already paid and do another one with him, as we declined multiple times, he didn’t allow us to pick the car up. We waited more than 1:30h to get a “very” dirty car and he was sarcastic saying “he was giving us a present, upgrading the car”. He wasn’t professional with us and kept joking. Overall it was a very bad experience.

Cons: It seams that Goldieri first interested in making more money from the renter. If you buy their insurance it is OK to get the car 2 hours before the time in the reservation, and they treated you better. For the car ordered, Jeep Renegade, they have it only Diesel and they charge 2 Euro extra per day.

GaldieriRent informs me I need to provide my passport which I show them a printed version of it. They tell me this will not work as they need the physical document. I explain to them that on the rental document (Discovery cars) that the document asked is a government issued Driving

Also, Galdierirent mention to me that since we are almost 1 jour after my 5pm pick up time, I Will lose the réservation so I must call Discovery cars to inform them. This whole situation just pushed my against the wall to take a $390 euros extra protection plan I Didint need in the first place to avoid having to go back to Rome

When we gave it back, they asked to see the photos and videos we took before checking the car (to compare) and i refused, we lost a lot of time even the car was perfect without any incident.

Cons: We rented the car through discovery and our plane was quite delayed. I bought onboard wifi for $12 CAD just to let the rental company knoe. The only contact I had was to discovery. I emailed them and they responded telling me they’d let Galdieri know. They obviously didn’t. Galdieri gave away our rental and then charged us AGAIN for the rental we’d already paid for. We’ve been charged twice! Why?

Pros: The representative was helpful, he took his time to answer all our questions and tried his best to give us the car we needed, even though it wasn’t the car we booked. According to him he gave us an upgrade since we asked for an automatic transmission and the options were limited for that type. The drop off was very easy and fast. Let’s hope we don’t get any surprises eventually.

Cons: The representative tried to sell us an additional insurance stating that the coverage we purchased from discovercars.com was not sufficient nor useful! We declined the additional insurance as it was very expensive (around 35 euros per day)had to purchase the road assistance to feel more secure only to discover later that it was already provided by the coverage we purchased through our booking. This made us worry about the car and our trip and created some sort of an anxiety throughout our trip.

Pros: Super easy pickup (though I had to specify I had an insurance package already, I think through DiscoverCars) and drop-off. Really straightforward, I got a great car, perfectly functional and clean, and it was great for everything from highways to gravel roads in the middle of Tuscany.

The car rental forced me to pay an exhorbitant amount to compensate for my not having the international drivers license.

Pros: The requirement for an international drivers license in Italy is ridiculous. Me spending $20 for a piece of paper that does nothing to make me a better driver is an unnecessary cash grab. I didn’t have an international drivers license but could magically rent a car once I paid an extra $500 insurance. It’s a joke.

Pros: Being charged more money for Insurance when it was already purchased through Discover Cars.

Cons: Being taken advantage of for extra insurance for reasons that were never a problem before.

Cons: Did not answer phone for airport pick up. Car was canceled after one hour from pick up time. No car was available, had to rent at another rental company 3x the price! Then come back to Galderi for a cheaper car rental, 2X the price from original contract! Galdieri blamed DiscoverCars for the cancellation?!?! Just dumb and a waste of time!

Pros: Once we were able to find the airport shuttle pickup, checkout process was fairly quick and easy. Return process was very arduous with quick dismissal of the stated issues we had with the car but quick to charge for issues they identified that were not identified at pickup.

Cons: Where do I start, shuttle very confusing to find pickup location at terminal, car had numerous issues after we drove off lot (tire pressure issue, change oil light, back seatbelts were cut off,) be sure to check out for damage thoroughly and take pictures before leaving log. Don't bother with roadside assistance addition unless you speak Italian. We called for assistance, didn't speak English and said they'd have someone call us back (which of course they never did.)

Pros: Good value.

Cons: They require you to provide your passport and international drivers license. If you don’t have one of these, they make you buy their insurance coverage.

Cons: as indicated in my comment. A further suggestion is to preload in the navigation system provided in the vehicle, the drop off point for the car.

Pros: Very personable, answered all of our questions and recognized us upon our return two weeks later. Wow!

The first car that was given to us.. had a bubble on the side of the tire.. if we didn’t notice it.. it could have been very dangerous.:(! So its very important to take lits of pictures and a complete video at pickup.. like we did.Also they tried to sell us additional insurance.. saying the one we had with discovery cars.. was not sufficient for Italy.

Cons: Nobody was at the airport to attend. Nobody picked up the phone. When I was on my way to the airport the next day to pick up the car, discovercars send me an email saying that the reservation expired. It was a scam

Cons: I showed up a couple hours early they wanted to make me wait. Then they said with the discover card contract I would have to put down almost $4k in deposits. Then they redid the contract with just $100 deposit but total price ended up being higher than quoted, and I don’t think my deposit to discover cars was accounted for

Pros: I would absolutely recommend Galdieri Rent. Great communication and great car. Finding the shuttle to the rental pick up for Galdieri at FCO is a bit tricky, but that’s more a function of the Rome airport being chaotic, rather than Galdieri. Galdieri’s directions are good (go upstairs and stand by the far lane in front of the control tower. Also, call Galdieri and let them know you’re waiting. They have EXCELLENT staff!)

Pros: The car was brand new so immaculate, the drop off was very quick and straightforward with transfer back to the airport straight away.

Cons: We hired a toddler seat to go with the car, the first seat was unsuitable for our child’s weight, the second seat had a part missing so was unsuitable again, they finally found a car seat in a container, it was late night and dark when we collected but the next morning we noticed how dirty the seat was so we had to clean this before put our child back in. The pick up took a lot longer than expected and tried to sell us more insurance.
