Lucky Rentals supplies transfers to and from the airport. When the renter is at the airport he/she should call 0064 800 808 881 / 0064 092 755 110 and select option 2 to get information about the shuttle service. If the renter is collecting outside office hours, the after-hours service providers (Park N Fly 0064 92 570 992) will collect renter from the Airport and take him/her back to the premises where he/she will need to sign the rental agreement, provide a drivers license, credit card and provide contact details before the rental car will be released.

Pros: The car was ready for pick up, clean and ready to go. The actual process of inspection was good and fair.

Cons: The administration appeared slow, almost like we were not expected both on arrival and drop off. We were the only people on the site either picking up or dropping off. One might have expected our booking details to be waiting for us - in both cases they had be searched for on their system.

Pros: Nothing. It took a long time for them to find a car, and when they did find one after two hours waiting I got a shocking surprise. Complete wreckage of a car.

Pros: The only thing I liked was I know no never to use them again.

Pros: Lucky Rentals provided a good service and the car was of a reasonable standard for a rental vehicle

Cons: My only complaint is that when I chose the Toyota RAV4 I did so because of the space to carry our luggage in a secure manner. On collecting the car there was no parcel shelf to cover the boot/luggage area. I had to use a sheet to cover anything stored in the boot. On one occasion while parked at a Tourist spot the Police left a note on our windscreen warning us of having items visible. The darkened windows were of no significant as you could still see what was in the boot.

Pros: Tony was especially helpful in Auckland when we returned the first car with airbag failure. The location was busy and people were complaining but he kept a cool head.

Pros: Just dropped the car off at the offsite car rental so we don't have to deal with the actual lucky rental staff which was very disappointing.

Cons: Bloody terrible old car. Not worth the money paid. Better off going to a known car rental and just pay a little bit more (like an extra up to $50 for the whole trip) for a safer and newer car. Car was rattling all the way and the oil replacement warning sign in the car kept flashing. Very unsafe to travel in non asphalt road which we had to at times. Won't be renting from Lucky rental anymore in the future.

Pros: The service people when I dropped the car off were really lovely. The car was super cheap to run.

Cons: The car was in shocking condition. Mechanically questionable (i.e. aircon fanbelt and belts required attention, gearbox often stuck between first and second gear, tyres were bald in some spots, phone charger didn't work, radio didn't work, no aerial, etc.) then there were cosmetic issues such as faded, peeling paint, duct tape on a door latch, internal locking not working, etc.

Cons: Where to start? Uncaring, lazy employees, I rented a small car and was told the only car ready was a large Van! The large woman in charge rudely told me to ‘take it or we cancel the rental’. Petrol for the large van cost me literally 2x - 3x the amount I should have paid with a smaller car. Really?! Not one clean car available when I booked far in advance? Pros: The rental was very cheap, and that's exactly what we wanted. We knew the car wouldn't be a Porsche, but that's fine, it was a bit grubby and dented but it drove fine and got us where we needed to go. We loved it and I would use them again as the price is unbeatable.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: They were slow, unenthusiastic, charged me for insurance even though i had paid insurance through the initial booking. Overall they were unprofessional and very slow. It looked as though they hated their jobs. I'm pleased I'm from NZ and understand that they have no service skills compared to the rest of the world. I do feel embarrassed that this is what we have to show when people first visit our country. They get off a plane and they get that. I will be using Avis or Hertz next time :)

Pros: Nothing at all the service was poor!

Cons: The car that I rented was ugly and I felt was unsafe to drive. There were dens and scratches all over the car. I had to use to hands and pull backwards and forwards hard before it would go out of drive. Also when I drove the car it was making a banging noise from the from left of the car. I found that the mud guard was glued to the actual car which was causing the banging noise. to be honest if it was taken for a warrant i strongly believe it wouldn't have passed. TERRIBLE CAR!!!!

Cons: Check in and pick up of the car was absolutely horrible. Read the other reviews online and this will not be a surprise. I should have read more reviews prior to picking up. Cars are oversold, front-line staff are under-supported. Waited 6 HOURS to pick up car as it was not available. Demanded a refund for one day's rental as a result. MANY others in the waiting area in the exact same situation. Have written on Google as well as sent an email to the New Zealand Better Business Bureau.

Cons: They couldn't provide the car when requested. I received it an hour late because it wasn't fueled and they were still cleaning it. They told me it was because the day before was a holiday so they were behind. If so then they should rent cars the next day. I asked if they would remove the GPS charge in exchange but they said they couldn't do it that day and to ask when I came back. They were too busy to take care of this when I retured the car too.

Cons: Lost track of our reservation. Check out took forever. Car was a 14 year old Nissan with 300k miles. Would barely go up hills. Died in Paihia, but resurrected it, returned it to Auckland. Mechanic test drove to evaluate, got to driveway, turned around, said missing on one or two of four cylinders. Suspension shot. Why send a car like that out? Replacement leaked onto passenger seat from water coming in at top of windshield during heavy rain -- otherwise OK. Said major price adjustment, we'll see

Pros: We picked up our car late at night

Cons: Our car was a complete piece of crap. 340,000 km, the tyres were balled, the alignment was off by about 15 - 20 degrees and it constantly pulled you off the road, the radio didn’t have a screen and barely worked, no clock in the car no cruise control. It didn’t feel safe to ride in half the time. I have a hard time believing they didn’t bribe someone in order to pass the WOF. What a poor experience even for the relatively low price.

Cons: The after hours address and contact details on the itinerary was incorrect and as a result at 10.00pm at night I could contact the company to acquire correct details. I had to hire a taxi and book a night at a nearby hotel as I was stranded without the car to get me where I needed (6 hour drive north) for a funeral. Additional expenses I had not counted on and added further stress on an already stressful time. I had to wait until 8am next day to call and get correct details.

Rental Conditions

Please check the Rental Conditions for each specific vehicle prior to booking as some conditions, particularly the deposit and deductible, may differ based on the class of vehicle.

Rate includes
Free cancellation with a full refund up to 48 hours before your pick-up time, Unlimited mileage, Collision Damage Waiver (deductible: ~€ 850.00), Roadside Assistance (in the country of pick up), Airport surcharge, Premium Location fee, Road tax, VAT (value added tax), Free modifications.
Driver requirements
Minimum rental age is 18 years.
A Young driver fee is not applied.

There is no maximum age.
A Senior driver fee is not applied.

The driver license must have been issued by authorized authorities at least 1 year(s) before the date of the commencement of the rental.

In addition to the regular driver license, an International Driving Permit is also mandatory if the national driver license is not written in English.
Please note that the International Driving Permit is valid only if accompanied by the regular driver license.

In order to pick up the car, the following documents are required: passport, valid driver license, credit card on a main drivers name, booking voucher, International Driving Permit (IDP).
Optional coverage
The following additional insurance policies are available at the rental desk: Full Damage Waiver (FDW), Partial Damage Waiver (PDW), Premium Roadside Assistance (CAR).
Optional insurance is available for an extra charge.

Partial Damage Waiver (PDW) will reduce the deposit and excess/deductible amount to 1000 NZD.

Full Damage Waiver (FDW) will reduce the excess/deductible amount to 0 NZD.
Full Damage Waiver (FDW) will reduce the Deposit amount to 250 NZD.
Deposit and deductible policy
A deposit will be blocked on the customer's credit card until the end of the rental period.
Payment policy
At time of pick up, customers will be required to pay the amount of the rental and a deposit.
It is possible to pay and leave the deposit only with following payment methods: MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Visa Debit Card, MasterCard debit card.
Cash is accepted as a form of payment.

An administrative charge of 2.5 % will apply for payments made using the following credit card(s): MasterCard, Visa.
An administrative charge of 5 % will apply for payments made using the following credit card(s): American Express.

The main driver must provide a physical payment card in their name with enough funds to cover the deposit to pick up the car. The rental company will neither accept virtual credit cards (e.g, GooglePay or ApplePay) nor someone else’s card (including family members).
Geographical restrictions
Using a ferry is allowed on the previous request and for an additional charge with special permission from the car rental company.
Optional extras and services
Available special equipment: GPS Navigation system, Baby seat (up to 1 year of age), Child seat (2-4 years of age), Booster seat (4-10 years of age), Snow chains.
Prices for extras are shown on the booking page.

Adding additional drivers is allowed.
There is an additional charge for each driver.
When picking up the vehicle, all drivers must be present and must provide valid documentation.

Fuel policy
The vehicle is provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with the same amount in order to avoid additional charges.
Additional information


All refunds (unused fuel, deposit, etc.) are made in NZD even if the customer was originally charged in a different currency when picking up the vehicle.
Rental period
The maximum rental period is without limitations.
Normal business hours
Period of time, during regular working hours, when the car is still guaranteed for the customer, if the customer is late for pick up (the grace period) is 59 minutes.
