Cons: The $350 bond and the $2500 excess, despite being fully insured. That's what happens is you book via Discover. Next time I will go straight to the agent so that Discover don't take their cut for doing nothing.

Pros: The agent was professional, knowledgeable and helpful. The car itself was in good shape and ran well. The only complaint was that the backup camera was not clear, the image it showed was often dark and not useable.

Pros: For ~AUD$60/day I guess you get what you pay for. I'm not complaining, just wasn't expecting a Toyota Prius with 175k on the clock. I'd forgotten that New Zealand car rental firms don't replace their vehicles as often as in some other markets such as Australia. The vehicle was in reasonable condition, but the EV high voltage battery was EOL. The oil was clean - indicating it is serviced, and it didn't burn a tablespoon of oil after we did ~2750 kilometres in it. Had a few rattles.

Pros: Melissa, the agent was very efficient and professional. She explained all the steps and followed through on everything. She promised she was confident and thorough and did not make any false promises.

Cons: The car I received from Mint disassembled while I was driving it back to Auckland. The undercarriage of the car detached from the body and led the front fender to detach, making the car impossible to drive. The Mint vehicle had high mileage (over 150000 kms) and evidence of prior impacts were noted before i took possession of the car.

Cons: What would be good is to have a car manual for the car. This was the first time I drove a hybrid and some of the instrument controls were totally different. eg having a B on the gear shift and a P switch on the side. Simple instructions would have been better.

Pros: The car was a 20 year old piece of junk with rusted wipers, cracked plastic dash and rubber door moulding falling off. The GPS was not up to date and it looked like a piece of junk!

Pros: When we weren't sure how the pick up/drop off service worked, the team was very flexible and clear. We called when we were ready for pick up and they said they will arrive within 20 mins (felt like 10 minutes!). We also appreciate that the representative did the car check instead of making us check - other car services did this, I assume for liability purposes. However, it makes so much more sense with the professionals checking. The experience overall was very chill and easy!

Cons: 9/10 purely because the car wasn't that new. It worked but things like the bluetooth incompatibility was a minor thing. We purchased a cheap clip-in magnet iphone holder from Bunnings on our own to help. We did forget to bring this home with us, however, take it as a small donation that will benefit the next driver. :) Could be a good consideration for the other vehicles.

The person who contacted me about the drop off made it sound like there was going to be a problem with the late drop off, after I explained I had pre-paid for a late drop off they sent another email with new instructions, I didn't appreciate the confusion. The windshield was so dirty on the inside I had to stop after the pick up and clean it off at a gas station.

Cons: The outside of our car was pretty dirty and we had to clean in the next day as we were in NZ for a funeral and were in the procession.

Hadn’t been vacuumed inside but the worst part was the front/rear windows were dirty inside. The Nissan Tiida isn’t suitable for mountainous New Zealand roads. It can’t Even overtake Trucks—the 3spd gearbox spends a lot of time on mountains not knowing whether it should be in 2nd or 3rd. To be fair you get what you pay for and they were VERY cheap.

Pros: I don’t have any concerns about the services by the agent. I only have issues with the car itself that I was provided with. During my rental period, the car wasn’t in its best shape and some of the plastic parts underneath the car got loose and made things more worrisome for me. The windows inside the car were dirty/“foggy” and had to be wiped clean. Otherwise the rentalwas good and very affordable.

Brakes and rotors burnt out while we were travelling. Lost 6 hours of holiday time while waiting for repair on van in Hastings. Remote for van was playing up. Wouldn’t unlock and when I would manually unlock van the alarm would sometimes go off. So overall wasn’t that great experience with mint car rentals!!

The after hours shuttle service folks gave us a receipt of NZ$25 as that is what they charge, but Mint Rentals charged us NZ$30 for the shuttle, which is not very professional.

Cons: Unfortunately all the radio interface was in Japanese so impossible to use when you don't speak or know how to read the language.

Pros: Kind and good operator and staff. The cars are older, but they work and are cheap. The hiring and returning went easily and fast, which was very nice.

Cons: The provided car wasn't in great condition. Sometimes the passenger car door would not lock. The key didn't open the trunk. The steering wheel shook violently when braking at speed. The engine made squealing noises. It also for it's size of vehicle didn't get very good gas mileage.

Left it outside the gate, keys in the letterbox, no problem; but took ages to get a taxi and it cost $25 (driver said it was the standard local-area fee)
