Pros: The service was terrible from the very beginning. They never mentioned in email correspondence they work till 5pm. They offered to phone them on arrival, nobody picked up. We tried to find out at the information desk. There was another couple who had been waiting for autounion staff since 5pm. They just ignore after hours clients. Though they knew about our arrival time and the flight number. We spent running back and forth 2 hours in the Auckland airport.
Cons: We had to hire a taxi for 140$ not to lose a hotel booking. The holiday in NZ was nearly destroyed by autounion.

Cons: They didn't provide a vehicle checklist when I picked up the car (noting any existing damage) and they didn't check it when I returned. Made me nervous that they might try and claim we'd damaged the vehicle and we'd have no proof. That didn't eventuate though so was ok in the end.

Pros: The extra service available for car drop off and shuttle service to the airport was inconvenient - no urgency and no polite service. Very rude. Also they dropped us off at shuttle pick up area but fellow passenger - single elderly lady had heavy bags surely they could have just dropped us off in loading zone area so she could have wheeled her bags off to check in counter.

Pros: Not much at all. My suitcase was driven back to the airport while I was in the office signing papers. The driver only had 3 passengers. It was left unattended and taken to lost property at the airport. I had to drive back the next day 2 hours to pick it up.
Cons: The insurance was a rip off and I was told the Discover Cars take the $3000 in most cases even if little damage. I then thought I had better take Rental Union Insurance. He sent me a template of claiming it back from Discover Cars fully knowing I would not get a refund. The car had a rattle in the wheel, like something in the hubcap. Car obviously wasnt checked properly before renting it out. Radio wasn’t good at all. Very basic car but expensive.

Cons: Having to find the way to the shuttle pick up area at Auckland airport and then having to phone the company to be picked up and transported to the depot. This was confusing for me as I was under the impression that the rental office was at the airport. I had to ask several people where the pick area up was, as it wasn't clearly sign posted at the airport. A little map could have been provided along with the documentation.
Pros: Very easy to arrange pick up at the office, and arrange for out of hours return. Fuel economy extremely good.
Cons: Car was showing it's age, and there had been a repair to a door mirror that was not obvious when I checked the vehicle at the office, but a lump of the cover had fallen off by the time we arrived in Tauranga. However, glad to say that after contacting the office and accounts, the damage was agreed not to have been caused by myself.

Cons: I called Autounion at 5pm, as soon as I got off the plane. They told me they closed at 5pm and couldn't wait for me, despite my booking saying 5pm (I originally booked for 5.30pm so unsure where this got changed, or why the booking was able to proceed in the first place). The team at Autounion were completely unhelpful and weren't willing to wait or find a solution, despite me also having a tired 1 year old strapped to my chest. All in all really disappointed

Cons: As we were victims of the Auckland floods, our new flight was at 9.20am so we had to be at the aearly. As AutoUnion hours are 8-5, we had to pay $60 to return our car to another address at 5am. Car manual was in mandarin and no English version a available. Bit slap dash, did not instill confidence.
Pros: The pickup and drop off process was easy, the car was exactly like they said it would be.
Cons: The car didn't have a manual in English which was tricky when we were trying to install our carseat. And like I said the extra charge for an after-5pm arrival.

Pros: Confusing, cancellation without informing me. New booking at different location caused us to run around for over 2 hours. Charged us for a higher price car when we eventually got the original vehicle. Vehicle was extremely low on oil.

It was a 2010 Land cruiser prado with 130,000km on the clock, car was keyed on both sides, no spare tyre, internal lights didn’t work, it was all in Japanese and fog lights didn’t work !! Pros: Tyre ! . The tyre was literally bald and no tread at all ,I had a kid and i was scared whether the tyre will explode and the tyre already reached the tyre change indicator, it was scary apart from that the car was excelled to drive and it was in good condition.
Cons: Discover cars should't allow to book the car if the business hours are between 9am to 5pm.And even if it does allow ,the rental car should provide a pick up after business hours.And its a big issue i faced when I landed as the rental office was closed and nobody was there to pick up .So i had to spend another $100 dollar to book taxi to my hotel and back to rental office the next day ,its an unnecessary expense. you should highlight somewhere in the portal about we can pick up only next day.

Pros: Dangerous should not have been rented to us due to bald tyre wires coming out this was on the inside wall of tyre not visible at time of collection.. abviously not checked by auto union before renting it to us we had tyre replaced at our own cost and awaiting refund we were given an apology but nothing else we are a seasoned traveler and rented cars all round the world and never experienced anything like this luckily didn’t kill our self or anyone else it ruined our trip and first time to NZ .

I had a pop up come from you when booking for after hours pickup. they don't give this even though I paid you. Your poor service resulted in over $200 in taxi fare then over $600 in airfare to get to Wellington.

Cons: At the pickup location we just got handed the keys and got told to find the car ourselves. We couldn’t find it and had to go back and ask, and then they found it parked in behind another car. It seemed a bit messy. The brakes made a weird noise sometimes, and everything in the car was in chinese, so when we had some car troubles (flat battery the next morning) it was no help reading the instruction book in the car.

Cons: I paid for out of hours pick up. The car was not ready. Auto union blamed you. You blamed auto union. Your man on the end of the call was not helpful. Absolutely disgusting service. I was out of pocket as had to pay for an airport hotel and loose my money for a hotel I had pre booked further down south. Why the hell do you offer a service if you can’t provide it. The car had low air in tyres. No parcel self in the boot.
Pros: Car had a pushed in bumper bar and scratches on nearly every panel. Poor quality vehicle.
Cons: Had issues with the vehicle, was told just to keep driving it with engine warning light and hybrid battery warning light going.

Cons: They provided us with a dangerous car that was not legal to drive. We blew one of the tires midway through our trip and a friendly police officer stopped to help us. He looked at the tire and checked them out and forbad us to go on without changing at least both front tires which we did. When we talked to auto union about this they did not take any responsibility and would not pay for the tires or refund us even though they gambled with our lives for a few dollars.

Pros: Nothing, I found them difficult to deal with, even though we were put out with delayed flights and late collection, no sympathy shown, could not even allow us to use Bluetooth on car, normally a standard feature which meant no music for our whole trip and we found it quite distracting and almost dangerous with Japanese gps coming through randomly while we were driving and trying to find our way on our own device which we had to use on our lap

Cons: I needed more instruction about hold to start the push button hybrid car, or a card in the glove box, or a print out with the rental agreement. The stereo not working was terrible. Driving for hours by myself in silence is crap, I would rather drive a shittier car with a stereo. They need to fix the stereo that is in japanese and unlock it so the cameras are functional and dod not pop up a box across it on the mirror that blocks your view. That is dangerous.

The driver license must have been issued by authorized authorities at least 1 year(s) before the date of the commencement of the rental.
A driver license printed using a non-Roman alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc) must be supplemented by an International Driving Permit.

In order to pick up the car, the following documents are required: valid driver license, credit card on a main drivers name, Passport or ID card.
Learner's permits are not accepted; a full driver's license is required.
Prices for extras are shown on the booking page.
Adding additional drivers is allowed.
There is an additional charge for each driver.
When picking up the vehicle, all drivers must be present and must provide valid documentation.
All extras are available at the rental counter. Prices vary, depending on the rental period.
The first additional driver is allowed free of charge.
Certain additional drivers are subject to both an Additional Driver fee as well as either a Young Driver or Senior Driver fee. Delivery/Collection service is available within city limits. Additional charges will be applied, depending on the distance.
Period of time, during regular working hours, when the car is still guaranteed for the customer, if the customer is late for pick up (the grace period) is 120 minutes.
