Autounion at Auckland Airport

Pros: The employees were very helpful and patient.

Cons: My fault for not noticing the details on how to arrange the shuttle for pickup once we arrived Auckland. It would have been great to receive a brief email about arranging pickup the day prior to our trip so we knew to call from inside the airport. Instead we went to the pick-up spot. After waiting sometime, incorrectly assuming shuttles come every 20 minutes or so, I finally read the small print on how to arrange pickup. Unable to call from cell phone, went back to the terminal + had info call.

Pros: Airport shuttle service was wonderful. Drivers were super helpful.

Pros: First car I was offered I discovered within 500 metres had defective steering. They promptly replaced the car but with another car but older & more tatty condition car. The replacement car drove adequately but looked beaten up.

He had phone calls on speaker phone and we heard all of the conversation. (Both customers car hire were cancelled, one gentle men showed up to collect his car before closing time and no one was on site, he travelled from the UK and said he was going to sue them.

She was almost in tears. 1 person behind desk with 8 people waiting, and each customer was getting long sales pitch about insurance. It was the worst car rental experience of our lives, and we have traveled often for business for the last 30 years.

Cons: At pick up, Autounion added a NZ$275 charge for "Standard Cover" without informing me. When I noticed this and asked for this to be removed, they removed it but replaced it with "Merchant Fee" of NZ$16.08 (also without informing me). Car had peeling paint on hood, roof and back (below rear wiper), a loose rubber strip on roof and hole in carpet of driver's footwell. Warning lights started on day 2. Shallow tread depth of tyres, barely legal. But odometer only 1200 km, clearly been altered!

Pros: Inbetween customer service was brilliant. I had some dashboard lights coming on, the problem was solved quickly &with a smile.

Cons: Check in wasn’t the friendliest& I didn’t like that the extra insurance was added by default..had to be very persistent that i didn’t want it.

Cons: Suggest for you to check the car types before renting them out. I check the tyres on our car and the tyre pressure was around 3 times the amount it should have been.

Cons: This was the worst experience in car rental in my life. I was treated horribly. I was accused of damaging the car when there was no picture to prove that I did not. The manner in which I was spoken to was not only condescending and rude, but I feel I was targeted as a woman and because I used the third party insurance. At the time this was happening to me, there were three other costumers having issues as well and we were all women, and everyone there working was a man.

Cons: * When a customer drops off a car and your employee passes the inspection, any subsequent damage claims should be directed to the employee, not the customer. * There was no communication with the customer. After sending several emails, I found out there was a typo in the email address. * Without any prior information, $1500 was deducted and $729 was refunded. This basic math error is concerning. I don't know who hired these accountants *There is no phone number for contact only email.

The car was stinking and dusty, people smoke in the car and thwy disnt clean it. And we didnt receive the car we booked because "they didnt had it", that was the answer. After waiting for an hour in the queue (only one staff member processing the six customers in front of me) the company wanted a $3000 bond from my credit card (they wouldn't accept debit card) Their system decided my cards were suspicious and blocked my cards so I had to pay for a higher insurance policy to reduce the bond required. Total 2hrs:15m before I drove away.

The car was also returned prior to the collection time so the full 24hrs of rental was not given.

The turn signal was also the reverse side from most cars, so I kept turning while activating the windshield wipers and not letting the other drivers know my intentions to turn.

Cons: The cars are very old, mine even had spider web inside. All the wheels were different brands, one of them was missing a cover. They make you take pictures of every damage in the car at pick up “for your protection” or they will charge you damage you did not make to the car. The ladies at rental desk pick up were indifferent and sarcastic. There’s a rude middle age guy at pick up and drop off that check the cars for every minor detail to try and charge you something out of the deposit money.

Pros: My bank card had been stopped by bank due to change of country, and bank could not be reached out of service hours. The rental company would not compromise for 1 day, and i had to return to airport next day (2 hours) and pay for 1 day when i did not have car

Another customer as well as I paid for full cover to Discovercars and rep explained this was not needed as their options cover it. Car was full of scratches, dents etc and had to take so many photos to cover me.

Cons: If you take out Discover Cars insurance, UnionCar will not accept anything other than a CREDIT CARD with a limit down to $3000. So don't use Discover Cars insurance if your credit card does not have this line of credit. Easier to just take out the insurance with UnionCars themselves, which is $25 per day.

Pros: The car provided was nice and the dropping off was quick, easy and efficient.

Cons: The staff tried about too hard to scare me into buying more insurance even after I showed him that I was fully covered and my credit card will not be blocked. It was difficult for me to find the meeting point. A map showing the route provided in advance will be helpful as I am a visual thinker and internet and mobile access was more difficult for me as a foreign visitor. One of the brake lights did not work, though I was given the permission to have it fixed, it was not possible for me to do it.

Pros: They were quick and easy to interact with when at the location.

Cons: The car had an after market radio which was difficult to use. No cruise control. A bunch of emergency lights showed up on day one. Couldn't find roadside number. Called corporate office in Greece, they couldn't help me. The company then emailed me to keep driving the car with all of the lights on. The windshield wipers were old and worn. I purchased new ones so i could see safely.

Pros: The service was terrible from the very beginning. They never mentioned in email correspondence they work till 5pm. They offered to phone them on arrival, nobody picked up. We tried to find out at the information desk. There was another couple who had been waiting for autounion staff since 5pm. They just ignore after hours clients. Though they knew about our arrival time and the flight number. We spent running back and forth 2 hours in the Auckland airport.

Cons: We had to hire a taxi for 140$ not to lose a hotel booking. The holiday in NZ was nearly destroyed by autounion.

Pros: The extra service available for car drop off and shuttle service to the airport was inconvenient - no urgency and no polite service. Very rude. Also they dropped us off at shuttle pick up area but fellow passenger - single elderly lady had heavy bags surely they could have just dropped us off in loading zone area so she could have wheeled her bags off to check in counter.

Pros: Not much at all. My suitcase was driven back to the airport while I was in the office signing papers. The driver only had 3 passengers. It was left unattended and taken to lost property at the airport. I had to drive back the next day 2 hours to pick it up.

Cons: The insurance was a rip off and I was told the Discover Cars take the $3000 in most cases even if little damage. I then thought I had better take Rental Union Insurance. He sent me a template of claiming it back from Discover Cars fully knowing I would not get a refund. The car had a rattle in the wheel, like something in the hubcap. Car obviously wasnt checked properly before renting it out. Radio wasn’t good at all. Very basic car but expensive.

Cons: Having to find the way to the shuttle pick up area at Auckland airport and then having to phone the company to be picked up and transported to the depot. This was confusing for me as I was under the impression that the rental office was at the airport. I had to ask several people where the pick area up was, as it wasn't clearly sign posted at the airport. A little map could have been provided along with the documentation.

Pros: Very easy to arrange pick up at the office, and arrange for out of hours return. Fuel economy extremely good.

Cons: Car was showing it's age, and there had been a repair to a door mirror that was not obvious when I checked the vehicle at the office, but a lump of the cover had fallen off by the time we arrived in Tauranga. However, glad to say that after contacting the office and accounts, the damage was agreed not to have been caused by myself.

They told me they closed at 5pm and couldn't wait for me, despite my booking saying 5pm (I originally booked for 5.30pm so unsure where this got changed, or why the booking was able to proceed in the first place). The team at Autounion were completely unhelpful and weren't willing to wait or find a solution, despite me also having a tired 1 year old strapped to my chest. All in all really disappointed

Cons: As we were victims of the Auckland floods, our new flight was at 9.20am so we had to be at the aearly. As AutoUnion hours are 8-5, we had to pay $60 to return our car to another address at 5am. Car manual was in mandarin and no English version a available. Bit slap dash, did not instill confidence.

Cons: Discover cars should't allow to book the car if the business hours are between 9am to 5pm.And even if it does allow ,the rental car should provide a pick up after business hours.And its a big issue i faced when I landed as the rental office was closed and nobody was there to pick up .So i had to spend another $100 dollar to book taxi to my hotel and back to rental office the next day ,its an unnecessary expense. you should highlight somewhere in the portal about we can pick up only next day.
