Alma Car Hire at Athens Airport

Pros: Clean reception area, nice staff, no hard sell for extra insurance.

Cons: For us foreigners coming in to a new country and not speaking the language, it is always daunting trying to understand, in this case, a pick up and drop off system. The instructions were somewhat easy, but I was at a hotel where the owner posted a video on YouTube on how to get to her place from A to B. Or attach some pictures as a walkthrough towards the pickup and drop off area. North Americans are big users of FB Messenger (will they ever switch to WhatsApp?). Maybe support it too?

Pros: Ok price and car conditions.

Cons: The agent asked for additional insurance purchases as a “requirement” to pick the car up. They said since the booking price was cheap (it wasn’t! but subjective), they wouldn’t let me pick up the car unless I buy an insurance directly from them, even though I already had insurance through my credit card. They used scare tactics but DiscoverCars support was very helpful and quickly resolved the issue by contacting the agent.

Pros: Alma is a broker, car was provided through some other company. At the counter the agent informed me that they will not release the car without purchasing an additional insurance or road side assist. I had to contact Alma and Discover Cars in order to have the car released with no extra charge. I spent though an additional 1 hour arguing. While I was there I noticed that the same was happening to everyone. Scam behaviour.

Pros: I paid extra money for a road insurance that the hiring company obliged me to buy when i picked up the car. They told me that if i didn’t pay i couldn’t get a car. I already had paid full insurance when i booked the car. It was late at night and i was tired so of course i paid because i didn’t want to wait to contact discoverycars to find me a new hiring company. Plus the car was not what i purchased and they tried to convince me that it was better than the one that i wanted. Stay away.

Pros: The shuttle arrived quickly (within 10 minutes).

Cons: I had problems with credit cards. The receptionist claimed that she could not accept the credit cards I had, even though I had never had such problems before. She also refused to give me a car without me buying accident coverage, even though I had purchased it on the website and presented her with a voucher. In the end, I paid an additional 70 euros and after a short discussion, we found a credit card that happened to be suitable for a deposit.

Pros: The agents were knowledgeable and very polite

Pros: The person checking us in was fantastic and efficient. The car was new and clean.

Cons: Service was great. We were not happy that we were not given the address and told to go on Google and enter Abby car and it would bring us there. So Google brought us to the worst part of Athens and we spent over an hour to get there

Pros: Easy pick up and drop off. Got an upgrade to a larger car, which was great. The car though seemed quite old technologically. But overall in good condition and with low mileage.

Cons: Nothing really, good value for money.

Cons: It was too far away from the airport, took a 10 min drive! That needs to be mentioned when you choose this rental company. Car was in ok condition, intentionally choose an ‘elite’ car (Volkswagen) and ended up with a Kia car..

Cons: They bring me with a luggage to the agency and left my family on airport. After they didnt accept my debit card, what I understand. I offered cash in amount they asked. Or I take the risk to take it on me. They said paid 200 or go to another rentoffice.

Cons: The cars Bluetooth did not work every time.

Pros: The car rental agency was extremely professional and courteous. Condition of the car was good and we did not face any problem for the entire duration of our stay.

Pros: Because my debit card was not accepted, even though DiscoverCars.com has a paragraph that says a debit card is accepted, I ended up paying the value over $1,300 for insurance and rental of the car, which was not worth more than $500. That is the hire of the car, plus $10 per day extra, plus $150 insurance (for an possible accident). It's a joke.

Cons: On return, they found scratches, which I did not do and they insisted that I did and instead of writing "scratches" on the final document, they wrote "dent". For me that is doggie, they possibly wanted to get more money from their insurance company. I, of course got upset and slightly raised my voice and they complained to me about it. Instead of calming me down and trying to find a solution that would benefit us both, they treated me badly. Their overall service was unprofessional.

Pros: Efficient and smooth, and great value.

Pros: Friendly staff member on pick up although the process was slow and the first car had an electrical issue so they had to change it.

Cons: The car had an electrical issue so they had to swap for another one which added time on to the already slow process.

Pros: There was no service. Worst experience I've ever had in renting a vehicle. DO NOT use this company.

Cons: Rental caused me significant aggravation, lost time & additional 35 euro because address on documentation was wrong. There's been no follow-up by company.

Pros: Returning the car it was a little bit difficult because of the time the person that got attached to the lady behind the desk she was kind of rude mention it she doesn't not care how we're going to return the car overall I didn't appreciate her comments but her manager the next morning he was really apologize and he said he will take care of the problem overall how come it should be more respectable to the customers.

Pros: One shuttle driver solicited tip.

Cons: Very accommodating and responsive! Car was brand new!

Cons: The company seems to go under a different name from the one you actually pick the car up from. The one where the car gets picked up from is "Abby car rental" and has extremely negative reviews online, with high deposits which are never returned to the credit card holder under various pretenses.

Cons: We were given a car that was small. Plus the rain wiper blades were faulty. They left marks on the windows that made it very difficult to drive in rain. We had to drive back to exchange a car. The staff acknowledged the problem and gave us a better car. Bigger with working rain wiper blades. Luckily we went back to change the car as the we would be in trouble to drive in the heavy rain that afternoon and the next day. I just don't think they have serviced the car properly before renting

Pros: Representative was waiting for us, very fast picking up process

Pros: The agent was super nice and helpful. The car was practically new.

Pros: The staff were helpful and friendly at the desk. They called us back and provided clearer instructions regarding the shuttle service although we did have to leave a message rather than talk to a person.

Cons: The shuttle service to the car hire desk was extremely confusing. We waited over an hour for our shuttle at Athens airport and it was extremely stressful as it was getting late and we worried the office would be closed. The shuttle bus had a different name on, to the company we had hired the car through and the shuttle service was chaotic. The driver needed to have clearer signage and make sure all clients were getting picked up, Discovery need to provide better instructions re shuttle service.

Pros: The car was the worst I have ever hired. Warning lights coming on, juddering whilst driving. Gave no confidence driving a long distance and we had to limit our trips due to the engine management light and limp mode keep kicking in.

Cons: They didn’t care, just said I put the wrong fuel in which I didn’t and didn’t care. They said just drive it back

Pros: Everything was perfect. New cars. Perfect service to and from the airport. I will definitely go again

Pros: We encountered no difficulty to pick up and drop off the car, the processes were easy and fast, and there was no hidden cost or charge. The company is located 10' driving time from the airport, so you have to anticipate the drop-off, especially if you fly early in the morning. However, the shuttle was ready and the drop-off process was very fast, so we easily caught our flight.

Cons: We found it difficult to find the shuttle at our arrival, but this problem falls to the airport as there are no signs to show where to find the parking lot.

Cons: Alma car hire was represented by Abbycar in Athens which caused some confusion in finding the pick up office and could have been clearer on the carhire voucher.. Once located however all was fine.

Pros: Good service, 2-way airport connection, We learned that we count on them.

Pros: Once we got there to pick up the car it went very well. When I dropped off the car Taso was very helpful, we went over the car he was impressed that how clean I brought it back. I told him it that it wasn’t that bad picking up. But I had it detailed, cleaned inside & out.

Cons: Our flight was delayed, no one was there for p/u had to look up phone number & call. They came shortly after. The other issue was leaving a $800.00 Euro deposit p/u day charge was converted to $1,081.87 CAD in which we start paying interest on the charges. The drop off refund of $800.00 converted to $1,029.54 CAD in which I lost approx $52.00 CAD $39.00 Euro. Why can’t a blank deposit be taken then there will be no interest charges.

Pros: Radio Bluotuth Aux Everythin wasnt working. The mechanical condition was not good and we got stack with the car

Cons: The rental agent at Abbycar (Alma is an agent), instead of taking an authorisation from my credit card for 800 Euro as a guarantee, they charged me 800 Euro which means that it was subsequently taken from my bank account when my credit card payment went through! Apparently, this is a standard policy by the specific car rental company, which is totally unacceptable!

Pros: Alma Car is a masked operation of Abby Car the worst car rental in Athens. The staff are struggling with a very rude and bad mannered supervisor who talks bad everyone. They changed their name because of bad critics from Abby to Alma. Do not rent. The car was filthy in the inside completely dirty, the previous time charged excess 65€ for “administrative fees”

Cons: People should not rent from this company

Pros: Very efficient and friendly.

Cons: We had problems finding the transport to the car hire as the van was labelled Abby cars not Alma. To extend we had to drive back to the hire location rather than being able to do it on line or over the phone.

Pros: No service given. Horrendous given that their small print is not even something that is required by the Greek authorities. In fact, many of those I spoke to said that they thought that they didn't actually have a car for us.

Cons: They left us with out a vehicle and the supposition is that they had over booked ad never had a car. Having spoken to the British and Greek Embassies both of who said that there was absolutely no basis for their small print insistence of an IDP. The fact that when we had finally managed to obtain one they then said that they had no more cars until after out holiday.
