We rented from Cairns Airport and did a week in the area. Fabulous, visiting the beaches of Trinity, Palm Cove and Port Douglas and the Mossman Gorge. Drove for a night in Mission Beach, very quiet not much there. Next on to Townsville and Magnetic Island; didn’t take the car across, just did a day trip by ferry which was more than enough. Next we drove to Airlie Beach which we loved and did a day trip to the Whitsundays. We dropped the car off at Prosperine Airport just 30 min drive from Airlie. A lovely small airport and all very easy. It was enough driving and the perfect trip. Fell in love with the hire car. Sooo comfortable and perfect.

Number 1 rule (as with flights etc) BOOK EARLY! Especially in ‘school horror days’ Cairns is in the tropics there’s a rainy season- and a hotter than hot season @ Christmas N/Y time. Up this way relaxation is in the atmosphere unless you live a ‘riotous’ lifestyle NB: (correct spelling check meaning).

I loved my vacation in Brisbane! The Australia Zoo is the best zoo that I have visited. The animals looked well taken care of and happy! The staff are very friendly and helpful and I love the animal interactions! If you want to visit the beaches up near Noosa Heads, take into consideration that it is a very busy area and parking is horrendous! I ended up leaving because I couldn't find parking. The Ginger factory tour was interesting and doesn't take very long. They give you free samples after the tour and a discount on the products you try if you take the tour. If you like hot sauces, Red Hot Chili Pepper is a great little store to visit! They have a nice selection of spices and are very helpful and friendly. You can also sample some of the sauces for sale. Great stuff!

Most of the sights worth seeing are outside of the city such as the Great Ocean Road and Philip Island so renting a car is essential.
