- Royal Castle. One of the most famous buildings in Poland, the 400-year-old Royal Castle was completely destroyed during the Second World War but was rebuilt in the 1980s and as such is one of the main symbols of Polish history and resilience. A large palatial complex with a beautiful interior and large collection of art, it is one of the most impressive places to visit in the city.
- Palace of Culture and Science. While it continues to split opinion at home and abroad, the massive Palace of Culture and Science is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable buildings in Warsaw. Whether you love it or hate it, the 237 m (778 ft) high example of socialist architecture is a notable relic of its era. Nowadays, the palace provides home to a multiplex cinema and a number of theaters and museums. And needless to say, the views from the top platform are breathtaking.
- Zachęta National Gallery of Art. One of the most visited landmarks of Warsaw, this is perhaps the most notable art museum in all of Poland. Established as early as 1860, it is located in an elegant, reconstructed building that is a historical monument and boasts a diverse collection made up of works of practically all of the most notable Polish artists. How old do I have to be to rent a car in Poland?
You must be at least 19 years old to rent a car in Poland. Note that many companies at Warsaw Airport do not rent to those under 23 and those that do charge an additional fee to younger drivers. Make sure to use your age when searching to see what the total price would be for you.
Can I travel with the car outside to Belarus or Ukraine?
No, it is not possible to take any car rented in Poland to Belarus or Ukraine.
Can I travel with the car to Poland's European Union neighbors?
Yes, you can travel to Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Lithuania with a rental car. There is usually an additional fee and you must let the rental company know before your rental or at the rental desk.
Do I need an International Driving Permit in Poland?

The Tatra mountains and Zakopane were definitely the highlight of my trip. Great hiking trails and a very nice tourist town with many restaurants and even a few late night bars. I wasn’t very impressed with northern Poland but I’ve visited 40 countries since 2018 so it takes more to impress me than it used to. Other than Zakopane/Tatras I find the Balkan countries and most Western European countries have more to offer both in natural beauty and more interesting towns & villages. But that’s all subjective.

Warsaw itself is not a very car friendly city and it is very hard to drive around and park. Outside of Warsaw is much better and quieter, but a lot of roads are heavily rutted and long sections of roadworks on main arterial roads.

Warsaw like most other cities Warsaw can be fast paced, busy and fairly spread out. There is plenty to do and see from historical sites to amazing shopping centers. The food is amazing. Be certain to understand the road laws and signs. Use a sat nav or google maps. It is an amazing city with plenty to offer. I highly recommend visiting any of the old towns across Poland. My fiancee is Polish so we visit quite often. We drive across to Lublin and the surrounding areas. Look for ski slopes in winter. We go to Stok Chrzanów, the staff are amazing and the amenities are second to none.
