Airport travel guide

Known as Poland’s cultural capital, Krakow is one of the best historical destinations in the country, if not all of Europe. Many, though not all, of the city’s highlights are located in the UNESCO-recognized historic center. Situated in Poland's mountainous southeast, Krakow can also serve as a gateway to many natural landmarks. These are four of the most interesting destinations in and around Krakow:
- Old Town. Historically and culturally important and nowadays eagerly visited by thousands of tourists every year, Krakow’s Old Town remains as busy as ever. While trying to name all of the attractions that can be found in it would be futile, seeing the Royal Castle, Wawel Cathedral, and the Marquet Square would be a highlight of any visit.
- Kazimierz. Also part of the Old Town, the district of Kazimierz is worthy of special mention. Historically distinct —it used to be a separate city and was also the home of Krakow’s once-sizeable Jewish community — it boasts attractions like a number of well-preserved synagogues, churches in the traditional Polish Gothic style, and an atmosphere like no place else.
- Museums. Krakow is known not just for its scenic facades and mighty churches but also as a great place for anyone curious to learn something new at one of the city’s many museums and galleries. There’s literally tens of them, but some of the most interesting ones include the sophisticated National Museum (also called the MTK), Ethnographic Museum, and Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology.
- Ojców National Park. Ojców might be neither the largest nor the most famous national park of Poland, but its stunning cliffs and karst formations still make it the pride of Krakow County. Home to about 5,500 species of wildlife and over 400 caves, the park is only about 20 km (12 miles) north of the center of Krakow and can be reached by car in 35-40 minutes.
