Ranking the most family-friendly road trips around the world

Just because traveling by air has become the new norm, it doesn't take away any of the magic your family will experience when hitting the road by car.

Road trips allow your family to create memories that will last a lifetime. They have the power to bring people together, but they can also be educational.

If you're taking a road trip abroad, you and your children will have the chance to build connections, all while gaining knowledge of different cultures, food, and music and an understanding of how people go about their daily lives in other parts of the world.

This is why we have explored several ranking factors that can make or break a family road trip. They include the road trip's total distance in miles, how many family-friendly hotels there are, and the number of activities on offer which are suitable for children.
Methodology
We explored 10 road trips to ascertain which are the most family-friendly. We found the most popular routes by looking at TripAdvisor.

We then collected data for several ranking factors for each road trip and wished to highlight the following information to help you plan for your next excursion:

  • Total Distance (Miles)
  • Average Distance Between Each Stop (Miles)
  • Total Time (Hours)
  • Average Times Between Stop (Hours)
  • Number of 'Family-Friendly' Hotels
  • Number of 'Kids Stay Free' Hotels
  • Number of 'Child-Friendly' Restaurants'
  • Number of 'Good For Kids' Activities

We took all of these factors into account and assigned each location a score out of 80. We then ranked the destinations by how many points they received to help you make the most informed decision for your next road trip
