Cons: Scammers who make alot of extra charges that aren't communicated before reservation. My rental costed more than double than was advertised on discovercars due to extra taxes and bullshit charges like picking up after 23:00 (even though I stipulated that in the reservation form). They also threaten that most likely the entire 1100€ insurance reservation will most likely be charged if U don't take the more expensive insurance.

Little to no explanation of why deposits were required, what was the pickup and drop off process, what to do if there were any problems etc etc. The staff just wanted to sell additional insurance and when not wanted, they just wanted to get rid of you as quickly as possible. It has to be said that there were a lot of very unhappy customers at the check in desk, all apparently suffering similar issues.
Cons: Shockingly slow at pick up. Actual cost of hiring the car significantly higher than quoted. Paid for insurance that quote ‘doesn’t matter how you return it and it’s a brand new car’ - on pick up there was a massive scratch and dint in the ‘new car’ - we left it as advised and then on drop off had to sign a load of forms about it. Compared to enterprise and sixt that I’ve used before you are shocking

After declining again we were then asked to pay a much higher sum than we were expecting and when asking to see what all the extra money was the agent showed us the screen and how he had still (despite us declining several time) had the extra insurance provided by them added. Manipulated and ripped off by an additional £200 from the original booking! Which is so disappointing as the original booking was good value for a week.

When we collected the car we were told that was not worth much and we were bullied into paying another €200 so that we didn't have to worry about scratches etc. We were made to feel very stupid by the person behind the desk. We also had to block €140 to cover in the event we didn't return the car full of petrol. When we dropped the car off nobody checked this and we were just expected to trust we would not be charged.

I thought I was booking with the option of full insurance or a retainer on a credit card of €1400, held to cover any damage, goldcar fobbed me of and said that was not an option. So I had to pay the full amount with insurance, rather than £80 with the retained €1400 on card. Very disappointed that there was not the option. I most definitely will not use goldcar again.

Part 2 of the collection process (when you actually get the keys) took a while and was difficult to get the rep to come and look at the additional blemished that were not already on the collection report

I was also pleased with the use of Queing numbers while waiting. I could relax until my number was called instead of standing in line. It is a further note that I had actually tried to rent from a different company and they canceled my reservation by sending me a notification in Catalan that I did not understand.

I contacted Goldcar customer services to request a check of the documentation prior to my collection. One week on, no evidence that the car was not damaged has been provided. It is not very nice to receive a car with so many damages. I still await resolution. Poor service.
