Beautiful country. Drove from Lisbon to Covilhã, Aveiro, Porto, Nazaré, Tomar and Sintra. It was a big 9 passenger van, but it handled well and we survived the tiny streets in the cities.

We saw everything in Lisbon from the Castel de S. Jorge, where we felt like we were on top of the city overlooking it all, to seeing the magnificence of the Jerónimos Monastery to eating the incredible Pastéis at the Pastéis de Belém cafe. We drove to Colares to stay by the sea while exploring Sintra during the day. Sintra was a fairytale town with colorful palaces (Palace of Peña), magic wishing wells (initiation well) in breathtaking gardens and secret undergrounds of Quinta da Regaleira, and epic castles like Castelo dos Mouros. Then we drove to Porto, but on the way stopped in the medieval town of Óbidos and the Venice of Portugal, Aveiro, for a phenomenal dinner. In Porto, we explored alittle of the city like seeing the most beautiful bookshop, Livraria Lello, then drive to the Douro Valley to visit a 11 generation family owned winery, Quinta de Santa Eufémia. This was 1% explanation of a once in a lifetime trip with my 5 girlfriends. We loved Portugal, from the food to the sights, to their wonderful people.

We did the EN2 (National route that crosses Portugal from the North - Chaves -till the very South - Faro. It was an unforgettable experience for the unbelievable beauty and diversity of this small country in just 740Km. This is the 3rd world's longest route after Route 66 (USA) and Rota 40 (Argentina) and believe me... it's a must do!!

Lisbon is a beautiful place that can be better seen while riding a vehicle. Public transportation in Lisbon - although very good - takes time... if you have only a few days to travel, renting a car is a good idea (but be careful with parking... make sure you have a place to park your vehicle prior to renting)

Don’t attempt driving to/in Sintra because there’s almost NO parking and the roads are brutally curvy, narrow and steep. Other than that all went fine, even in our 9 passenger VW Transporter.
