- Mount Teide. Named after the aforementioned volcano that’s the highest point in Spain, Mount Teide is a highlight of any trip to Tenerife. There is a cable car taking you almost to the very peak (there is a parking lot at the lower end of its route), but be aware that it is quite often canceled due to bad weather. Tickets for the cable car tend to sell out quickly, so it’s best to book them in advance.
- Teide National Park. However, Teide is not just the mountain, but it is also the national park that surrounds it, taking up a large portion of the island’s northern interior. A prime year-round hiking destination with a large network of trails, it is also home to attractions like the Teide Observatory, as well as a variety of endemic flora and fauna species.
- Los Gigantes. Named after the impressive coastal cliffs and boasting some of the best accommodation options, Los Gigantes is one of the most popular tourist hubs in the southwestern part of the island. A number of lovely beaches are just a short drive away, and if you’re visiting during February, don’t miss the town’s annual carnival.

Since 2022, there have been two terminals at Tenerife South Airport. All domestic and international flights are handled there. The capacity is now up to 16 million passengers per year.
Location
Tenerife Airport South is about 60 km (37 mi) from Santa Cruz, the largest city on the island of Tenerife. There are many smaller towns, villages, and beaches near the airport. One of the nearest village is the kitsurfer’s paradise El Médano. The most touristic areas with many hotels are also not far away. The popular tourist areas of Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje are around a 20-minute drive awat. Motorway TF-1 is the main road connecting the airport to Santa Cruz. Puerto de la Cruz, which is also popular with tourists, is about an hour from the south airport.

For Tenerife car renting is ideal decision if you whish to travel more and see whole island. Differencies between south and north of the island are described everywhere on internet and renting of the car gave us freedom on plans. Complication is only with parking withing Teide national park due to high number of visitors especially during the daytime.

I think the two must have in Tenerife are Loro Park and Teide for those a car would definitely comes handy. Search on Maps for Mirador those are sweet spots where you can see a lovely view of a city or sunset. Many of them are hidden but very beautiful.
Driving overall not that difficult in Tenerife, some roads can be tricky in the mountains but with careful speed limits it is ok.

We toured around and across the Island, visiting many lovely little villages. The Northern coast is less touristic and definitely worth while. Restaurante Silogia, in the village Santa Cruz de Tenerife, was particularly nice: Romantic spot on the square, secluded terras, local food prepared well. I don't mention the friendly service, because that is the norm everywhere on the island. We visited a vineyard on a mountain slope facing to the Northern coast. From their Bodegas Monje, you have a flight of wines to taste and a beautiful sunset view.
Another restaurant that we recommend is called Qapaq. It is Peruvian, the ambiance is really simple, but the seefood is delicious whatever you chose from the menu.
The capital city is worth spending more than one day. With its lively and friendly atmosphere, shopping, strawling, and enjoying the parks and architecture time flies. When planning a hotel, consider that parking maybe a challenge. Visit the city walking or using buses.

I travel to Canaries quite often. This time we traveled some 600 km in a week. Country is hilly and if someone wants to travel on hilly highways and go up to volcano definitely needs better engine than standard 1.0-1.2 litres motors usually found as basic in small cars segment.

If you are on five days or more in Tenerife, the best is to visit the southern part of the island Adeje, Los Cristianos, and Los Americanos. Don't forget to go to Los Gigantes.
The northern side of the island is amazing too. Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Puerto De la Cruz are stunning as well.
All Island around you can drive in around 3 hours.
Highly recommended.

Stayed in Puerto De la Cruz beautiful location main square has some great food friendly people
Loro Park 10 minute drive. You'd spend the day there get there around noon and plan out to see the dolphins, orcas and sea lions in the one trip don't need a guide
Do a day trip to the south to Siam Park fantastic spot also go straight to the sea side for sun set we had a meal in the Royal Garden was brilliant staff are quality
Going up to Mt.Teide Road from up north to the mountain was terrible but came back down on the south road which was lovely

far better than having to wait for ''transfer bus'' and then being the last to be dropped off at hotel, plus any trips you want to go on, you just jump into the car and go. Then at the end of your trip no need to allow a whole day for transfer back to the airport.
