Airport travel guide

The main city of the historical Silesia region and having close ties with neighboring Germany and the Czech Republic, Wroclaw is one of the most distinct, interesting destinations in Poland. Built on twelve islands, it is known for its scenic beauty and diverse architecture, but its student population of 120,000 ensures that youthful, creative energy is always present as well. These are four of Wroclaw’s most interesting attractions:
- Market Square. Known simply as Rynek in Polish, the main square is the beating heart of Wroclaw. One of the biggest town squares in Europe, it is the most popular meeting place in the city, the location of many restaurants and bars, and also where many of Wroclaw’s best-known landmarks like its Gothic 13th century Town Hall which now houses the Museum of Bourgeois Art and numerous galleries are.
- City Museum of Wroclaw. A network of five separate branches situated around the city, the City Museum includes the aforementioned Museum of Bourgeois Art but also offers such varied experiences as the Military Museum, Archaeology Museum, History Museum, and even the Museum of Funerary Art.
- Ostrów Tumski. Also called Dominsel (in German) or simply Cathedral Island, it is one of the most interesting areas in Wroclaw. Located to the northeast of the Market Square on the other side of the Oder river, it is now connected to the mainland but remains the location of such symbols of the city as St. John the Baptist Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, and the Tumski Bridge.
- Centennial Hall. Wroclaw is famous for its historical architecture, and while Hala Stulecia is significantly more recent and modern than most of its counterparts, it is all the same another important symbol of the city. Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the multi-purpose hall is known for its highly original exterior and interior of reinforced concrete, and continues to host various sporting and cultural events to this day. The Centennial Hall was recognized as a UNESCO World heritage site in 2005.
