I left something in the car. How to get it back?

We know it can be incredibly stressful to realise you've left a personal item, like a phone, wallet, or passport, in your rental car! Because rental cars are cleaned and rented out again quickly, reaching out right away is your best next step.

Step-by-Step Guide:

1Call the Local Branch Immediately

Calling is usually much faster than emailing. You can find the phone number for the specific rental office where you dropped off the car on your rental agreement or your DiscoverCars.com voucher. Since they have the car right there, they're in the best position to help!

2Be Specific

Let the staff know exactly what you left behind (like the colour and brand) and where you think it might be (like the glovebox, under a seat, or in the trunk).

3Arrange Shipping

If the team finds your item, they’ll let you know how to get it back. Usually, they'll ask you to arrange and pay for a courier service to ship the item home, and they might include a small fee to cover the packaging.

Expectation:

"DiscoverCars.com can contact the supplier to locate my item."

Reality:

We’re more than happy to send an urgent message to the supplier's main office for you! However, since their main office is often in a different city or country than the car, calling the local desk directly is usually the quickest way to track down your item before the car goes out with a new renter.

Expectation:

"The rental company will secure my items and mail them back."

Reality:

While the local team will do their absolute best to help you find your belongings, rental companies generally can't take responsibility for items left in the car. They offer this recovery help as a courtesy, which is why shipping costs are covered by the renter.

What To Do Next:

Give the rental supplier's local office a call as soon as you can.
If you're having trouble finding their number or can't get through, just reach out to our support team!
We’ll gladly step in and message their main office to help you out.
