Interesting, because if you get your car an hour late because the line at the car rental is too long (it happened to me here before), you don't get a discount.

Pros: I’ve been renting from Ilha Verde for over 10 years and the process for pickup and return has definitely improved. 15 minutes or so each way, with friendly and helpful associates.

Cons: This time around the car was in fair/poor condition. Filthy windshield interior, poor wipers, and worn interior upholstery/touchpoints. I got a low tire pressure light within the first day and discovered some tires were overinflated and some were way under. I don’t really mind the cars age, but they should be better cleaned. Between the condition and mileage it felt like maybe this car was ready for retirement. However it did the job and got us around the island safely.

Cons: I rented a compact SUV and they gave us a Mazda 2 - a mini car. When I asked about getting the correct size, they said it was the correct size (a Mazda 2 is not a compact SUV, a Mazda cx3 or cx5 size is the car I expected) and could do nothing about it. We liked the car but it was not what we rented nor a good price for that small of a car.

Pros: Due to the delay of flight we missed our connecting flight and arrived to Azores 5 hours later. They were very nice and waited for us even after opening hours to pick up the car. The deal was quick.

Pros: Hub caps kept coming off for no reason. Had to buy 2 new ones and take the rest off. Had to do an oil change as light came on saying it needed to be changed. Middle seat very hard to pull up to get people in the back seat. Back door does not stay open slammed and shut on my hip. Another service light came on as well. I called multiple times and no one ever answered.

Pros: Finding the agent in the airport was fairly easy, however, I would advise to request your car pick up for two hours prior to your actual arrival as I was unable to acquire the car immediately. Our flight arrived early and the car was delayed, and therefore there was a long waiting period.

Our car was booked at 8 am and when we got there at 7:15 am they were not willing to give us car 45 min earlier (never happened in any other country). At drop off we got papers to bring back to the desk which should have been done by the staff. We waited in line for 30 min just to find out there is another desk 50 feet further where you drop papers off. Thay desk had only one person who was not there.

Fortunately I've immidietly took a video of the damages on the car and when we returned it I could prove them the damages weren't made by us. They also don't even give a receipt when they unblock your deposit. Not professional at all.

Is the only company who doesn’t work with Drop off Box, but it should, because these unforeseen events, or at least pick up the phone 24h.

Pros: It is very easy to find the rental office in the airport. The staff was nice and helpful (to pick up and return the car). I was a bit concerned about the 1600€ deposit, as I read bad reviews online, but few minutes after returning the car, the deposit was already back in my bank account. While traveling, I was told twice that my car was nice and clean compared to other rental companies. I'd use them again for sure and I'll recommend them also.

When we had rented from Ilha Verde in the past (previous day on Pico) the assessment of the initial vehicle condition had been made prior to our arrival. Procedures need to be clear.

Pros: Sao Miguel is very hilly. The brakes on the van squealed the whole time we had the van. With an 8 passenger vehicle ( or any vehicle) safety is the #1 priority. No vehicle should be rented with squeaky brakes.

Pros: Very efficient in how they're doing registration, car pickup and return, and price is good - which is also reflected that almost all rental cars in Azores are from Ilha Verde. There's more rental companies operating in Azores but almost no one is using them.

Cons: Did not particularly like the car configuration (Renault Clio) - it had a very often incorrectly working (and thus useless) system for detecting speed limits from road signs (blame Renault), when having folding mirrors would have been actually useful for parking on narrow streets.

Pros: Very quick, efficient and pleasant communication with the representatives. Very fun to drive vehicle perfectly fit for the roads on Sao Miguel (Mazda MX5)

Cons: The overall technical condition of the car wasn’t very good, probably due to always being booked and highly abused by other drivers, hence maintenance is not being done so often and so carefully as it should be.

Pros: The car was relatively clean. That is the only thing that I liked about the service provided by Ilha Verbe

Cons: - Car was defective. - Waited 2 hours because car wasnt ready - Old tires led to a flat. Tried to change the tire but we couldn't because the wrench wouldn't work on the bolts of the tire; meaning the tire had been changed before, probably because of prior flats. Because of that, we had to call them so that they help us with the problem. We got left stranded in the middle of nowhere for 3 hours. - When we returned the car, they charged us 180$ because of the flat or they would keep 1200$

Pros: Bilingual agents were helpful, the kiosk locations for checking in and checking out at PDL is also very helpful.

Cons: Other than the costs, compared to using third-party sites, I would try to work with PDL to update the car rental return sign as you approach the airport to include that Ilha Verde is the second turn-off to return and not the first.

Cons: A day it was raining, i had the burden of taking photos of the car and later having to prove taht damages where not done by me. Also first car awas a renault clio that was severely underpowered and the engine was making a ticking noise, ater on the tyre failed

Cons: crazy long line when picking up the car. when a plane arrives and there is a pike in demand, we experienced a 70-80 people long line waiting at the rental counter, meaning hours of waiting to pick up the car.

Pros: Great service, too slow picking up, line was too long and it took over an hour and a half to get to the counter to speak to someone.

Cons: Easy to find, quick to pickup car after checking in. One thing i was not happy about, there was a warning symbol once I picked up the car about service is needed in one week, we rented the car for 10 days and the brakes were squeaking immediately picking up the car, the front tires were almost bald and it was slippery when driving during the wet weather. If i had more time when dropping off the car i would have spoken to a manager about this, i had my wife and two kids, safer car was expected.

Pros: Friendliness, didn't try to sell-up insurance, thoroughly inspected the car prior to giving me the keys.

Cons: The dropoff could be a little easier. You cannot just leave the keys and go, you have to wait until a representative inspects the car and then you need to drop a piece of paper at the airport office. But they were fast.

Pros: Efficient, no problems. Streets are narrow and I think scratching wheel rims is very common. Luckily our car already had scratches on pick up, so didn't have to pay for them.

Cons: Really long lineups for pickup at the airport (~2 hours), initial car received had a leaky tire and it took almost 3 hours spent waiting at the airport to get a replacement vehicle

Cons: Waiting 2 hrs in a line for a pre-reserved car. Staff made no attempt to acknowledge or apologize to us or anyone else about the delay. I found it extremely unprofessional.

Cons: We had to wait 1.5 hours at Ponta Delgado airport to pick up the car. There were about 50 people waiting in a long line. Only 2 people were working at the pick-up desk. There were 2 more people at the return desk who charged 20 euros for 'priority' service. This money probably went in their pocket. NOT impressed!
