Micauto at Ponta Delgada Airport

Pros: At Micado car everybody was helpful and nice. The car was in good condition.

Cons: There was no desk at the airport, not an easy way of contacting the company to get a shuttle and pick up. Without a working cellphone, I had to borrow a phone from a kiosk. I learned later that there was Whatsapp available, but no indication of that was on the website or contract information. I wouldn't say that they're at the airport, but available, still a better means of contacting them would be recommended. Other companies were represented at the airport in some way, except Micauto.

Pros: What we were told it would cost is what we paid at the desk; the agent was very thorough when going over the car's condition. Would be helpful if we were told that "gasoleo" is the same as diesel.

Cons: The rep. was not waiting at the airport as we had been told; we had no way of contacting them as we did not have a phone that could call Portuguese numbers; had to find a stranger who was willing to help us (even the people at the information desk at the airport would not help us). Then we found out we had to wait by the flags outside. Would be better if we were told this when we first booked the car as it would have saved us a lot of hassle and stress upon our immediate arrival.

Cons: Everything was perfect except one thing, we thought we were picking the car up at the airport, since that was the location we selected, so we were searching for a Micauto desk at the arrivals. There was none, a van came to pick us up and dropped at the desk like 2 or 3 minutes away. The issue was we didn't know where to go or what to do and had to call them and ask, but overall it's only a minor detail. Like I said, everything was really great.

Pros: Everything was handled smoothly with very little wait time. The car I was to rent wasn't at the lot but they substituted with a nicer one. No issues at all.

Cons: I was worried about picking up the car offsite but it was fine. The shuttle was prompt in picking us up from the airport to get car. When returning the car they also dropped us off at the airport as soon as we were finished returning the car. Very impressed.

Cons: Never showed up. Had three locals including a rep from the airport try to call the numbers listed. No answer. The next day there was no apology, no acknowledgement that this was unfortunate. Just an email saying they tried to call us the next morning because when did we want to pick up the car. We were four towns away and had already paid 40 euros to take cab to our Airbnb. It would have been 40 euros back and micauto never made any offers to make the process easier. Not happy at all.

Pros: Micauto Rent a car was simply the best car rental experience in probably 30 years. Easy, accomadating, fair price and just painless. Certainly the gold standard and I've probably used 2 dozen car rental companies in 10 or 15 countries.

Cons: Car had low tire pressure, was dirty on the inside, gas at 3/4th full, brakes were squeaky, and wipers needed to be replaced; overall felt unsafe for a place that rains quite a bit. Upon return, the personnel were 30 minutes late to the office, causing us to almost miss our flight.

Pros: The agents were very friendly and helpful. We completed the paperwork and left the garage within 10 minutes. Drop off was also easy. The car was clean and worked well during our rental period.

Cons: It was a bit difficult finding the agent upon arrival at Ponta Delgada airport. But I think we just missed the agents as they took customers to the garage. We called the agent and waited for 10 minutes until they return. It was fine after that.

He was efficient, very kind, spoke great english (besides Portuguese), he made the car hire process fast and understandable and even went the extra mile when I left my phone behind in the rented car to go back with me to get it! The entire process was very smooth and the quality of the car hire excellent. Would rent with them again!
