Magic Islands Rent A Car at Ponta Delgada Airport

Pros: Good Service provided after call to refill oil.

Cons: Tires were close to end of life, probably oil level was not checked before rental. Pay to much detail to little scratches on car at car return.

Cons: They charged 1.500€ and returned them after 4 days after dropping off the car.

Cons: The instructions for pick up at the airport were not very clear. We had to ask one of the other rent-a-car providers what to do. Luckily they were very helpful.

Cons: Foreign cardholders beware! Instead of blocking the deposit on your credit card, they charge and then refund if the rental exceeds 4 days; there's a possibility for unexpected Forex losses.

When we started to film their artistide, they said , ok , your car is ok......we haven' t got yet our deposit back. They sent to us our final doc in Portugal.......now we havent got any additional information about when they will relize our deposit and etc. Really bad company!!!!!

Pros: Several scratches and damages on the car. Technically the car was ok, tires (especially in the front) were on their last miles.

Cons: It took a long time to get in touch with the front desk to get our pick up organized from the airport. The guy who drove the van was quite rude to us, especially my partner. The car was given to us with a full tank, however the gauge went down a quarter of a tank after a short drive to the hotel. When returning the vehicle, was overheard the couple ahead of us reporting a similar issue but the representative they spoke to was quite rude and dismissive so we did not push the issue.

Cons: Solicion tarjeta de crédito a pesar de tener todo riesgo contratado con Booking o Discovercars. Esto genero tensión y malestar en el viaje. El exceso en la inspeccion del vehículo, aspecto que ya aparecia en los foros de internet. Lo que indican que hay intereses en encontrar el mínimo daño insignificante para hacer negocio con los seguros

Pros: Car was great, clean and in perfect condition. Check in was fairly smooth once we were picked up. Location is off premise, and we had to call to inform them we were there so make sure you can make international calls.

Cons: You have to pay a €35 extra fee to drop off the car outside of regular hours. I don't mind the fee but it was as much as a days rental, which felt excessive. Unfortunately, someone hit our car while we were parked. Luckily, I'd purchased full coverage so wasn't worried about it. When I emailed Magic Island to discuss, their response was rude and condescending. When I asked if they could clarify their response, they were even more rude and condescending.

Cons: -In terms of defects of the car. They take note of every single spot or mini mark (almost you need a magnifying glass to see it) and therefore it is impossible to control if you have been the responsible for that. It generates distrust.

Pros: Better value than other companies. Prompt pick up from the airport.

Cons: I canceled the reservation, requested a refund. It took over a week to receive the refund and I lost almost $40 due to the exchange rate. I should get 100% of the cash refund. This is NOT acceptable

Cons: The car pick up took too long and is not occuring on airport facilities. We needed to be transferred by shuttle to magic islands facility. The car was badly cleaned, had a lot of scratches and defects The dropping off was scheduled to an out of hour (5am) and the agency staff arrived late and very close to our flight time.

Cons: Accussing us of making a scratch which we did’t and was almost invisible.

Cons: Unclear info how to pick up the car. They send instructions wait at car park p5, but pick ups you at p6 :-/ Expensive upgrade to better insurance - 50 eur/day, while whole rental cost 50 eur for 4 days

Cons: After we picked up the car one of the employees of Magic Island car rental used the information from the car form to look my friend (women) up on Facebook and started sending her messages multiple times. I’m sure this is against the European privacy laws for company’s. When we delivered the car back he brought us to the drop of point at the airport but he drove really fast and unsafe. Would not recommend this company.

Cons: The car was old, with many miles on it, quite a few dents and very smelly. If they could improve the cleanliness and smell of the cars, age and condition can be overlooked.

Pros: The company didn't accept my card to pay the deposit (1200 euros) and, as it was 8pm, the person who managed the reservation was rushing us and didn't propose alternatives, other than paying 80 euros per person and per day to enable one of my friends to make the reservation and drive the car instead of me. We couldn't get back our reservation money (~140 euros). We went to another car renting company in the airport, which let us pay easily the deposit (only 100 euros) and where very helpful.

Cons: Dropped car off after taking child seats out and was charged $100 because of slightly dirty car. Not told this was a charge until “reading the fine print”

Cons: As others have noted, when dropping off the vehicle magically damage is found on the tire of all places. We were not told to inspect the tire at our initial pickup because who would think to? The tire that is subject to the most wear and tear. I urge you do not rent from this place. Save yourself the aggravation.

Pros: The girl at pickup was prompt and gave us a good car, the best we had in the Azores.

Cons: The bearded guy at drop-off was the most thorough person I've ever seen in car hire. He checked every inch of that car, even underneath. He even tried to charge us for a tank that was 99% full at drop-off, the same as we had picked up. Then, after half an hour of stress trying to find our photo of proof, he tried to pretend to be nice. He wasn't. He also wouldn't allow us to drop off the car at the same time we picked it up.

Pros: Upon our arrival at the airport we had to go to Lost and Found to report our baby seat which stayed behind at the airport we took off . In result, we were a bit late for the pick up and explained our unfortunate situation, and reason for the delay . In response , Magic Island Team offered us a free of charge baby seat during our rental period and also waited patiently for us despite the delay.

I asked for a delay in pick up for Discovery cars, it was confirmed (was only recorded in vaucher by my request, should be by defaut ...) and Magic Islands pick up service was not aware of this change .. Aynway we was able to quit at initial hour from airport. The return of deposit is slow .. After 1 week i do not received it yet.

Cons: I returned a car 28th of January and Magic Island employee took it and said it is absolutely Ok, but did not give me a paper confirmation of that. They still have not given me back deposit 1200 euro and don’t responding to my e-mail.

Pros: By far, the worst experience I have ever had renting a car. Staff were unwilling to helpe find a solution to leave with a rental car. I ended up paying for a rent I couldn't even use.

Cons: Staff were horrible. Coordination between Discovery Cars and Magic Cars was terrible. The rental ended up failing and I lost $100... Because Magic cars wouldn't let my place a deposit with the car I used to book the rental. Terrible. Just terrible.

Cons: The infant car seat was old and battered, and didn't have ISO-fix so the safety standard was much below my expectations.

Cons: Magical Islands provided a very bad service: when I returned the car, they went to the maximum detail when checking the car and charged me for damages that are related to normal usage (which weren't even checked when I picked up the car). Besides that, the staff was not polite and not professional.
