Airport travel guide

Large, wealthy, and home to some of the most futuristic architecture on the planet, Dubai is not everyone’s cup of tea, but those who enjoy its opulence can’t get enough of it. Scratch beneath the surface, and you’ll find some fascinating history, too. These are three of its most notable attractions:
- Souks of Deira. A former center of trade and now largely a residential district, the Deira area of Dubai is well known among tourists for its several interesting souks, or marketplaces. These include the Spice Souk, the Fish Market, and even the Gold Souk. Even if you’re not interested in buying any of these three goods and commodities, visiting these places and seeing the local bargaining culture in action is a special experience.
- Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding. Located in Bur Dubai, the historical center of the city, this is the right place to learn about Emirati folklore and customs, as well as to sample the local cuisine at one of the traditional meal events. Visit the center’s official homepage to learn more.
- Burj Khalifa. Even if you’re more into traditions and culture, there’s no denying that the 829 m (2,717 feet) tallest building in the world is one of the standout landmarks of Dubai. You might be disappointed to learn that its viewing platform barely exceeds half of its full height, but that’s still more than the highest points of many other world metropolises.

Some rental companies have desks in both terminals while others, such as Sixt (Terminal 1) have desks in only one of the terminals. Others are located away from the airport and provide a shuttle service.
Services and facilities
Dubai Airport is rated among the top ten airports in the world for a reason. You’ll find countless opportunities for shopping, dining, and entertainment. There are also ATMs, many lounges, a lost property office, baby care rooms, a children’s play area, two medical clinics for emergencies, free showers, prayer rooms, and frequent cultural events such as live music concerts. There are two luggage storage services, in Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, that are open 24/7. The airport offers assistance to travelers with reduced mobility, but you should contact your airline in advance if you need this service.
Nearest gas station
An Eppco station is located on the D70 approaching the airport from the city center. It is just minutes from the terminals and the drop off locations for those rental companies located at the airport.
