Sun Car Rentals at Malta Airport

Cons: Nothing, awful company.

Pros: The return process was swift, the agent checked over the car very thoroughly looking for damage.

Cons: Due to being just over an hour late to the rental desk they claimed the car was no longer available and we would have to pay an extra Eu9 per day for a "upgraded" car. The delay was due to a late arriving flight, and slow baggage handlers. We got nowhere with complaining that this was not our fault and we did not need an upgraded car. It seems a scam to extract extra money from anyone arriving delayed.

Cons: See above the reasons for poor review.

Cons: I rented "Fiat New 500 or similar Mini" expecting to get new car, either 500 or similar. Was given basic spec, Hyundai i10. I specifically selected from option "New" so to have car with Android auto etc. Car had very bad automatic gearbox, hard to drive, almost dangerous. Was stalling going up the hill. Agent was not helpful. At booking desk they tried to sell us cheaper deposit option which would cost additional 20 euros per day. Car was given to use 45min after rental time start time.

Cons: Waiting time to pick up my rental was over an hour, car was not even remotely close to the size I requested. I needed an suv and was given a small hatchback that was covered in marks and scratches. The coating of the deposit was unreasonable and was charged without a choice of cancelling the rental

Cons: We had an hours long wait to pick up the car. There were two agents on one desk processing the pickups. It was obvious that one was on training. It would have been helpful if an other desk was open.

Pros: The phone agents take the time to explain. The agents who handle vehicle inspections at pick-up and drop-off The condition of the car.

Cons: The agency refused to add a rental day through the DiscoverCars website, claiming that the vehicle wasn't available since there was only a 2€ extra charge, but on-site, they had the option to do so for an additional 48€! The agent at the office didn't fully explain everything before charging us, including the option to refuse the 40€ gas fee.

Cons: Hard to find, as office is poorly signposted. I didnt getr the car I ordered, I ordered a specific car because I was transporting my elderly parents and wasnt happy not to get what I ordered.

Cons: We rented 2 cars and 1 9-seater van. The van was excellent, quite new and ideal for our needs. Both cars were old, over 100,000 km and rather tired. However, the did the job and were good value.

Cons: Waited in a line for an hour to get the car. Agent was doing everything on paper and just wasted our time. Car was old, had done 80 000km. Gear knob was cracked and kinda coming off. Also they gave me the car with 1/2 tanks of fuel. Meaning I returned the car with more fuel than I used. All rentals are supposed to be full to full I assume so this annoyed me. Just overall not a good experience.

Cons: They told me that they had put half a tank of petrol in the car and that I can return it empty. They then charged me £40 for the petrol. An unusual process that I wasn’t advised about upfront. It was only when I queried the amount they were wanting to charge me on pick up that they said what the extra money was for. The window on the driver’s side was broken and would not close fully causing a draught.

Pros: Couldn't deliver an automic as ordered. So we didn't get a car.

Cons: I was charged more than quoted, given a basic small car even though I booked a mini crossover. When I raised this with the person giving me the car they couldn’t have cared less! The car was damaged on 3/4 quarters… the agent who took my details didn’t explain the charges, offered us extra protection which we declined but now appears we may have been charged anyway!

None of these fees are, of course, mentioned in the terms and conditions. On top of that, we got a different car than we had ordered, and it was completely battered. Fortunately, the refund to the credit card went smoothly.

Pros: Nothing. This was only a scam and they wanted to chargé me for everything.

Cons: Additional charges they wanted from me - they charged me 50 euros for administrative fre to pay my 23 euros fine for parking. They charged me 25 euro for returning car at 7;30 a.m and wanted to chargé more in case i am late. I had to pay in the office for half tank of fuel, which was more expensive than in the petrol station. And they manipulated with tank, so the indicator of fuel was responding with the delay. I tank the car for 30 euros and the indicator did not move at all.

Cons: I had a very unpleasant experience with one of the employees at Sun Car Rental. She was hostile, rude, and unprofessional throughout our interaction. After we signed the contract, she practically threw us out of the office, opening the door wide and commenting that other customers were waiting. This left a very bad impression and made the whole experience uncomfortable. I expected much better service.

Pros: Would mark '0' if option was there. The company failed to provide us the minibus at Malta Airport. We had to arrange a taxi ourselves at 11pm as they said it was none of their business. Only for them to deliver the minibus one day later. Car broke down on 3rd day. No replacement vehicle offered. Again missed our last day of rental and had to arrange a taxi for ourselves to the airport. AVOID AVOID AVOID!

Cons: Person on the Assistant line was rude and unhelpful. Told me that he would charge us for a burnt clutch without seeing or inspecting the car. My friend is a mechanic and clearly the car had a faulty gearbox. Had to pay €100 euro for recovery even though the roadside assistance was free and included in our rental agreement. They simply don't care and don't even have basic customer service

Cons: Cuando llegamos el agente llamado “Menkel” que nos atendió estaba discutiendo con otros clientes, de manera muy agitada, casi llegan a los golpes. A nosotros nos atendió después de eso, el estaba muy acelerado y desconcentrado. Nos pasó las llaves del auto y no nos acompañó al auto. El auto estaba en muy mal estado, la caja de cambios dura, el asiento con quemaduras de cigarrillo, muchos choques. Eso si era funcional! No nos falló y en bencina era económico.

Cons: I purchased a waiver insurance policy with Discover and was under the impression that I would only need to pay a £600 deposit. However, when I arrived, I was informed that I would actually need to pay a deposit of £4500. To reduce this amount to £600, I had to pay an additional £140. They mentioned that I would need to file a claim with Discover in case of any incident. Cons: 40€ of gazoline for half of the tank at the pickup when the price per litter is about 1,30€ is a joke. Airport fee + service fee also was a joke, we were about to pay only 21,50€ at the desk for the rest to pay well told by Discovercars but we end up paying 100€ of taxes and taxes out of nowhere

Sun cars said take it to another place who repaired it. Took half a day out of my Holiday. Four days later, arrived at our destination with a different flat tyre. Told again to change it and get it repaired. it was Sunday nothing in the vicinity open. On inspection tyre very worn. Back to hotel not risking another puncture. D

Cons: Departing late from Athens flight to Malta I noticed in advance the agent on Whatsapp customer service number that we will have some flight delay. The flight was supposed to arrive at 5:35pm but got there at 6:20pm. He told us right away that we will have an out of office fee for picking up the car after business hours. Even though on 4 different online platforms, their business hours say they close at 8:30pm. As we arrived at 7, some agent was napping on the desk. (No more space to write more)

Cons: It was probably the worst experience that I have ever had when renting a car. Initially, it was difficult to find their office as it is part of a car rental group and wasn't noted in the map. Then, I had an issue with my credit card (it was a bank issue) so we could only pay by debit and the agent took advantage of our confusion/agitation and made us pay more without even informing us. Please avoid Sun Car Rentals and it is such a pity that Discover Cars is collaborating with this company!
