Malta is not easy to navigate. You must use navigation and be very carefull when driving. Lot of very narrow streets, very dangeros and hard to drive. But if you are an expirience and carefull driver, it will be ok.

The car was fine, although it was more of a city car and not quite suitable for the hills in Gozo and the rest of Malta. But all in all the car did the job. Tips for fellow travellers, be careful where the car is parked. As the car plates indicate whether it is a rental or not, fines may occur more for cars that are rented when parked.

We were staying in Gozo, and drove straight through Luqa. having a car gives you freedom to roam and explore at your leisure, these fabulous Maltese towns. Gozo is a reasonable drive from Luqa, and of course, you need to get the ferry to Mgarr. You don't pay to get to Gozo, you only pay the return journey. A return fare for a small car and two occupants is €20.35. Popping back to Malta, Valletta is superb, steeped in history and loaded with a massive selection of restaurants, Cafe's and Bars. We chose the Saturday to visit Malta, as the Maltese people flock to Gozo at the weekend... It worked out well.

Although there are buses on Gozo they are every hour which isn't frequent enough with a family. Therefore renting a car allowed us to go where we wanted when we wanted. Free parking in Victoria too which was great!
