Mode Car Rentals at Christchurch Airport

Cons: $100 rental for snow chains seems a bit excessive but service was excellent so overall very happy.

Pros: The guy who checked the car out and took us to the airport with the shuttle was friendly and an asset.

Pros: I am not a fan of writing negative reviews for other companies as I value the services provided. However, today I was charged an outrageous amount of $150 ($100 parking fine & $50 insanely high administrative fee) 1 month after my trip. What makes this matter worse is that I always pay for parking fees & I have proof that the fee has been paid on my credit card statement. I will agree to pay the fine if it is due to my mistake. But, it is not the case in this situation.

Cons: Vehicle did not have USB charger. Inside of windshield had a Greasy film that required me to clean on 3 different occasions with glass cleaner. Also, wiper blades were worn, not giving a clean sweep with downward motion.

Cons: The after-hour drop off service was unaccceptable. I was told there would be shuttle bus service to airport at the time I booked early drop off and got charged $50. Few days before the drop off I was told there would be no shuttle bus but I could claim taxi fee upon submission of receipt for an maximum amount of $30. I have 4 passengers and 5 pieces of luggages, a small car was definitely not big enough, not to mention there was doubt I could get taxi at the remote Mode depot to airport timely

Pros: The cost of the rental (hybrid RAV4) was the best I found. They guaranteed the make/model of the car I reserved (rather than ‘or similar’). The service on drop-off was excellent, confirming no damage and releasing the bond on the spot. I love the Mode Rentals premise - independent Kiwi car hire.

Cons: The pick-up experience was very poor. They are offsite, and their phone number on our arrival at the airport went to voicemail twice (even though we had provided flight details). I called their main office, and the agent tried to be helpful but could not provide any information and kept apologising that ‘they were busy’. Eventually the local office called and we were collected by a shuttle bus. Things then went smoothly, but we had lost an hour and the uncertainty was stressful.

Terrible customer service so will not be making any recommendations.

Pros: It was a very old unsafe vehicle with stinky carpets. Vehicle did not have working front vipers, wheel alignment was very bad, car was pulling towards left and was difficult to drive. I reported that to the when returning the car and she tells me I cannot do anything as car was from Christchurch. I did not want anything from her, I just was reporting so next family doesn’t have to drive this dangerous vehicle before it is repaired.

Cons: I am not sure if Mode is trying to steal from customers or local reps but as Mode found out I am international traveler with insurance and already have left New Zealand Mode rep started sending me emails claiming car was damaged during our rental. Also I retuned vehicle with full tank and I received emails that they are charging for fuel top off and some administration fees.It is big scam and will make sure this goes on Facebook and all other social media so other customers never have to face it

Chips are a normal everyday thing whilst driving in NZ and to get charged extra for something which is out of your control is abit rough. The cleanliness of the car upon pick up was abit average too. I understand that there was alot of pollen in the air but the exterior of the car didn't look like it had been cleaned for a good week or so.

When I picked 3 out 2 couldn't be used as the straps had been cut and another was missing the back strap. I took 3 seats 1 being inappropriate for my daughter's age just to get home and then I had to go and purchase a seat for her age. When I emailed mode about the situation the customer service was great

I was impressed with their commitment to customer satisfaction and their attention to detail. Overall, my experience with Mode Car Rentals NZ Christchurch was excellent, and I will definitely choose them again for my future car rental needs in Christchurch!

Cons: I didn’t like that I had to ring them for transfer and wait in the rain. I also found the $3,000 bond unreasonable but was already at the car yard so had no option other than to accept. I have never had to pay a bond when I had already paid for insurance through a third party!

I am being charge for windscreen replacement without being showed a proper invoice or details of exactly i am paying for. Very shady business needs some transparency. you cannot legally charge customer on provisional quotes.
