Pros: Continued from didn't like... The replacement car wasn’t in much better shape and had done 208,000 kilometres. It was a concern driving a vehicle of this age and we reduced our maximum speed to around 80k. The brakes were a bit shaky on occasion and were a concern driving around the mountainous country. Very disappointing – our holiday time wasted on getting a vehicle and then not feeling safe driving it.

Cons: The original car we collected had issues, the motor on the passenger side mirror was constantly running, the inside was stained and reeked of smoke. We had to come back the next morning to replace it and we were told there was nothing else available apart from a vehicle in worse condition and were offered a 20% discount. We explained that we couldn’t stand the constant noise and needed a replacement. It wasn’t until we asked to speak with the manager that we were given the option of another.

Pros: Reasonable car for reasonable price. The car performed well.

Cons: Pick up and drop off waiting and the inside of the front windscreen needed cleaning, very difficult to see ahead in sunny conditions. As we were flying in we didn't carry cleaning cloths etc.

Pros: The price for our hire car was good but we got what we paid for. It had good fuel economy and had plenty of space for our luggage.

Cons: The car was a bit dirty and smelled of stale cigarettes when we picked it up (luckily that faded a little). It has Bluetooth but the screen was in Japanese so we had to google translate to set it up. We added on a baby seat which was in pretty poor condition and wasn’t the right size for our baby. If we had known the quality we would have brought ours from home.

My impression is that the company does not provide much training to agents, and likely hires somewhat less competent people. The car I rented had two tires that were almost totally bald, which I only noticed on the last day of the rental. The car had also suffered a number of fairly significant dings and disfigurements, though I guess that is the price we pay foir an inexpensive rental.

No agent viewed the car with me at pickup so took recordings to cover my ass since a $1000 bond was still taken regardless of taking our full cover insurance.

Cons: Had to manually open boot as key fob didn't work. Next day boot catch broke completely and had to take suit cases out through the back seats. Bottle of scotch left in glove compartment and toilet roll left in car. Dirty seats and scratched to buggery!

Can’t beat it if you’re on a budget and don’t want/need all the bells and whistles of a standard 1-2 year old rental car that most companies provide.

My phone wouldn’t charge with the USB outlet in the car, so I relied on a battery pack in order to have GPS the entire time I drove it. Second car (Christchurch) didn’t have those flaws, but the wipers didn’t work on an intermittent setting - it was either constant motion or no motion - and the air con was intermittent at best. Cons: I booked a Toyota RAV4 (or similar compact SUV) through DiscoverCars for pick-up at Christchurch Airport. The booking page showed a new RAV4, which led me to expect a modern vehicle. In reality, the car I received was extremely old, the staff member even admitted their entire fleet is 10–15 years old. The car lacked basic features you’d reasonably expect in a newer model (like CarPlay) and felt nothing like what was advertised.

Cons: The car was old and had more tha 250.000 kilometres. The direction was jammed and when we informed the management, they didn't care. The car wasn't cleaned.

Cons: The car would suddenly drop off acceleration for no reason and would often loose power when trying to accelerate off from an intersection. It would only do 5km/hr for up to 40 to 60 seconds. Very dangerous. Some days it would run well for an hour but then suddenly go wrong. These Mazdas have a well known electronic control fault. I am an experienced car repairer so I could sometimes double kick the accelerator and get it working but it was not safe. I texted the agent but got no response.

We hired a "Luxury" people mover, and what we got was a circa 2008 vehicle, that had paint flaking off, was dirty both internally and on the exterior, had no bluetooth connectivity, had a stereo system that would have been greta if you understood Japanese/ Chinese writing, there rear seat we couldn't fold up and when we asked for assistance they tried to fix it using chopsticks and this was all before we even drove the car.

I was asked to get it repaired at the nearby workshop but it was almost 4:45 pm on a Friday (Sep 6) no no workshop was willing to take up the job and there's no workshop available on weekends there. I had no choice but to drive slowly on the following day back in Christchurch for a replacement car.

Cons: We were given a Toyota Estima, the car we hired, but it came with a disabled seat that you couldn't move back far enough to have room for your legs behind the front seat. The stereo was in Japanese, so we couldn't tune in the radio. It kept speaking to us in Japanese.

Cons: Child seat was old, dirty and unsafe. Staff attitude was awful, the guy behind the counter in Queenstown was extremely rude, unhelpful and argumentative. We filled the car with petrol on the way to dropping it off and it was full on drop off. We were then told the car was 7/8 full a minute later, when it was full to the brim. The car was parked on an incline which was skewing the reading and the guy was rude and didn’t acknowledge this or note it.
