Pros: The price was one of the cheapest at that time. The check out process went pretty fast and smooth.
Cons: Overall, you get what you paid for: a car with lot of kilometers and not in the best condition (i.e. lot of damages, dying breaks etc.) and pretty rude/cold check-in process while the check out was completely the opposite. I would think twice before booking again here...

Pros: We waited in airport a good 45 minutes after our arrival. Finally we had to call the office to see if this was a legit company since no one was there to pick us up. That’s when the representative said the driver is on his way. Finally, 10 minutes later a gentleman came to pick us up and drove us to their office so that we can pick our car up.

Cons: I had two cars break down on me on this trip and I had to pay thousands more than expected and ultimately got another rental company to give me a third vehicle. Only one location for FairCar in all of Iceland so I had to keep making hundreds of kilometers drives back to capital when a car broke down. Find another company. Worst rentals ever. Insurance here didn’t cover shit either. Use a chase CC in future for best insurance.
Pros: FairCar changed the pick up time of my rental in less than 48 hours of pick up and did not charge an additional fee.
Cons: The agent sent us out in the parking lot to find our car in row B. It was pouring rain and the lot was unpaved with lots of mud puddles. We were unable to locate the car because it was not in lot B. The rep then went and got our car from wherever it was parked and brought it to the door. We got in to discover the USB port was completely loose and did not work. The car also did not have GPS which we paid for. We were probably there 2 hours before we left with an ok car.

Cons: however, the helpline number I called was a disaster, Just for a flat tire there was no solution in the capital. What If I was in middle of nowhere in Westfjords with my wife and something worse had happed, the company would have left me on my ownjust by stating we have no staff. when we rent a vehicle from you company pay full premium insurance we expect you to take care of us when in need. I had no one to rely and had to pay on my own to get the tire fixed when the tire damages were covered.

Cons: Fair car company prices are reasonable and agents okay but they scam you with damages that are already there or perhaps make up damages. 50% or more cars in their parking lot are showing dents and not repaired. We paid for damages that was almost impossible to see with naked eye and were charged an arm and a leg. I would not be surprised if this damage is still there and not repaired and they collected from discover cars.

Cons: the pick up was frustrating. we had to wait for 30 minutes at the airport. no one was responding to our messages. the seat belt kept getting jammed. it was dangerous to drive like that. lights didn't work properly. GPS was always hard to connect. the windows were getting stuck all the time, so we just decided to keep it closed all the time.

Cons: After making a reservation and reading the rental documents (on the day of departure) we found out about the following requirement - they make a deposit on the driver's credit card in amount of 3000€ that will be released after returning the car. This is actually enourmous amount of money to be booked during the time of the trip in one of most expensive countries in the world. For us it meant to double the trips budget, because otherwise You won't have free funds to use.

Pros: The shuttles between the Keflavik airport and office were pretty quick and efficient. Agents at the office were friendly, professional, and helpful. The pick up and return processes were easy. The office is comfortable and they offer free coffee and hot chocolate (although unfortunately they were out of chocolate powder while we were there). Mechanically the car was great, no issues. I would definitely use FairCar again if I end up having the opportunity to return to Iceland.
Cons: The only issue I had was that we were supposed to have a snow brush for the car and I couldn't find one in it. We didn't end up having to contend with much snow so that wasn't a big deal but it would have been nice to have. It's possible that I missed it somehow, I guess.

Cons: The amount of time required to drop off the car is quite a lot considering their location is away from the airport and can only be reached by their shuttle service which comes every 30mins. So if you consider the time getting to drop off, time taken to review car and time to get you to the airport, it's quite a time to consider. Could be an hour.

The pick-up at the airport is very confusing, when we arrived there wasn't even any indication of where we had to go, we had to find out ourselves and we wasted a lot of time. At the dealership, it takes a long time to get anything done, and everything is poorly organized.

Cons: In summary: if you know you’ll have a lot of clients in off season, HIRE more personal! Either to transport people from the airport and back, as well as to attend the clients in the counter.

Cons: It was quite expensive - but that is expected for Iceland, one assumes. Some of the systems were a quite inefficient - for example checking in, where we had to use an unwieldy touchscreen to input a lot of information. Checkout was also quite slow.

Pros: There’s not really any thing that I can say positively about this car . First impression was not good due to rudeness of shuttle driver. My traveling companion is disabled and was offered no assistance in getting to the shuttle bus that was parked parking lot adjacent to the airport entrance. This was a struggle for my companion to get to there. No effort was made to help. Also shuttle was not is to enter even for able body people. Hard to find when returning the car.

Pros: Difficult to find the driver to take us to pickup point. The assigned car was old and quite dirty. It didn’t have a trunk cover so all the luggage was exposed at all times. Return process was quick and with no issues.
Pros: The folks at the Keflavik office are clearly extremely busy with tourists from all over the world, and we happened to drop off our car on a day when they were being absolutely browbeaten by an extremely confrontational tourist, and yet through both of our interactions with the agent, at pickup and during drop off, they kept their cool and were so professional and kind to us. We're so grateful that we chose FairCar for our first trip to Iceland and would rent again with them again anytime!

Cons: The car condition was terrible. The rear hatch was broken making it nearly impossible to put in and take out my luggage during a 17 day road trip. All of the other 4 door hinges were broken and the doors would not remain in an opened position. The center console armrest cover did not lock and made a constant noise each time I drove over a small bump. The car had exposed wiring, several damaged areas on the body, did not allow for use of Apple carplay on the screen, and was not a 4x4.

Cons: Poor organisation at the airport. The booking details stated you will meet us as our flight lands. No one met us for over an hour until a phone call to the office. It was obvious that the shuttle bus just drive to the airport, waiting until it was full and returned to the office. The office staff were very pushy tried to sell unnecessary extra insurance. Car actual condition and condition on the paperwork didn’t match, the car was full of scratched, dents, missing/damaged bodywork.
Pros: Very helpful rental desk representatives. I appreciate being able to communicate directly with them via email before arrival. It is extra nice to have coffee available in the office while waiting to collect (or drop off) car. Nice service.

Cons: Rude staff (female staff walked away when asking for help on Sept 9 in the morning), disorganized check-in and out process. No support during baby car seat selection or installation - had to look up instructions online as same staff member had no familiarity with how to install chairs. No baby car seat option in shuttle to and from airport (incredibly unsafe), compounded by our initial shuttle driver running through stop signs when going to the rental service building. Would not recommend at all

Cons: The service was awful. The agents were extremely slow dealing everyone, and the shuttles to and from the airport were disorganized. My friend and I had to wait for a second shuttle both leaving and going to the airport because the car rental company shuttles were full. It basically took us 2.5 hours to pick up the car. To top it off there were a bunch of hidden fees. One of the worst companies I've ever seen in my life, in all honesty. Other customers I talked to felt the same.

Pros: The only real issue is we had to swap out due to an engine light costing us three hours of driving. Otherwise I would have put ten across the board. Your office and personnel were great for the change out and the car for compact handled great.

Cons: My passenger side window shattered while sitting in a parking lot. There wasn't an accident or anything done on my part. We called the emergency number, x3 and was told to find someone myself to temporarily fix it. I ended up driving 1.5 hours, both ways to change out vehicles. I missed 2 paid ticket events and a dinner reservations. I also had to fill the tank to return it. I had to pay 1049 EU for the damage, despite existing window damage on other windows. Both vehicles had existing damage.

Cons: Very old and not so well maintained cars (never had a rental car with over 210,000 km on it !!). The engine was making noise throughout the entire trip and the low air sign showed up on day 1 after 20 min drive. We just thought they didn’t check the air in the tires but after 5 days continuously putting air in the tire every time we would put gas we realized there was a puncture. We called to ask to change the car or the tire but we’ve been told that we need to change the tire on our own expense

It had frame damage on the bottom left door and had rust spots where the damage was and on top of the roof. The car had dents and scratches all over. No navigation, backup camera or cruise control. The drivers door needed to be slammed in order to be shut and the window regulator was making loud noise every time you needed to roll it down. Will definitely not rent from this company agai

Pros: Once we were at FairCar’s office things went very well. Lengthy, but friendly, comprehensive and efficient. The car was old and somewhat battered (240,000 km) but we’ll suitable for the job.
Cons: Pickup at the airport was late - q hr after landing and I had to calll FairCar’s head office to find out whether someone was going to turn up. No signage or any other indication at KEF airport. Had to ask a person from a competitive company whether FairCar actually exists. Not exactly confidence-building when dealing with an off-airport rental company for the first time.
Pros: The mileage of the car is high (170K km) but the overall car condition is good. The gentleman who received us for drop-off is nice and helpful.
Cons: We waited for 40 minutes at the airport to be picked up. There are about 10 car rental company names printed on the pick up white board which was not expected. Customer should be informed of this and a board picture will help. The lady receiving us for pick-up is not patient. She even cut us off and made a decision for us on certain choices. She said she was busy and there were other customers she needs to tend. But it turned out that she was playing with her phone afterwards.

They have 4 desks and there were around 8 groups inside to pick up/drop off, with only 1 person serving.We could see at least 2 other staff members in the office, and no sign of them helping anyone for at least 30mins (when the lady came and helped drop offs). Not able to explain what covers in basic insurance vs level 2 & 3 insurance. due to that opposite vehicle put small stone on front windshield. It was not covered because in proper explanation. For small windshield damage you guys charhed me $1900 dollars. Can you reduce this amount. My friend also rented 7 seat we got 5 seats one. we are group of 10 people completely unhappy with service staff.

Cons: The car we received for our 9 day Iceland trip was in awful condition. The tire light was on when we received the car and the attendant told us to ignore it. The front left tire was low and the car pulled to the left continuously as a result. The car was keyed and rusted all over. The brakes were terrible and in need of servicing. As soon as we touched the brake, the car would wobble and shudder very badly. None of the windows would roll down except for the driver’s window. Would not rent again.

I don't get even compensated for that but then they penalize us by stating some small hidden line in their T&C about 7000 ISK fee penalty if we accidentally miss a toll or parking ticket! Cons: The GPS was completely useless to a foreign person even in English because it still requires a lot of Iceland specific information to get it to look for an address. Also, it was difficult to figure out how to return the car. The address of return should be posted in an obvious place in the car and should be exactly as it could be looked up in the GPS.
Pros: Unlike other people leaving reviews, I LIKED that the car had chips and dents. Think about it, if you are renting a 4x4, you intend to drive on F-roads (or you want to waste money). And on those F-roads there will be loose gravel that WILL cause minor chips and scrapes. So why complain about it? The more minor scrapes, the less worried you should be about adding one and having an insurance issue at the end of your rental!! Those esthetic damages should feel liberating! The car worked perfectly!

(BTW as we were waiting, another rental car company shuttle driver made call for us. But we still waited for additional 30+ min.) Once we arrived at the office, there were only one pp. working. We waited another 40min before we got the car. Yes we got the car that was promised. But it had 260,000km on it. The tire balance light was on, the tires were worn out.

Clearly not checked before being hired out to us. Took 4 hours to replace the car and when they did instead of an 8 seater we had to agree to a 5 seater which was in an awful state.

The windshield wipers badly needed replacing and we’re useless. The plastic interior pieces of the car would become disassembled at the slightest touch. The rubber washers sealing the doors and windows were falling off. The shocks were bad, we felt every bump in the road.

They should make you aware to leave time for waiting, or make the drop off process much quicker/efficient.

The car was barely holding it together, old, rusty, worn tires that needed to be replaced, check engine service lights on, rusted and multiple scratches and bumps on body damage. When I returned this piece of junk, the manager told me that the car was damaged by sand and ashes. I could not believe it. They threatened me to call the police and made me pay $13000 of damage repairs (basically to get a new car from me!). A SCAM!

Dropping the car off was very slow - in the states, you pull in, hand someone the keys, and you leave. 5 minutes tops. It took 1/2 hour here waiting for someone to take the keys.

Pros: Dependable car at a good price.
Cons: GPS didn't work. After trying 4 different GPS, we thought we had one that worked. It worked only about 2 times on a 2 week trip. Basically useless.
Pros: Nothing. This company sucks. They rent old broken cars and do not provide customer service.

Cons: Waited over 2.5 hours to be told my reservation was canceled and no cars were available to rent. I should also be reimbursed for the over $200 in taxi fees I had to pay to get to my AirBnB and back to the airport for another car at another car rental company.
Pros: The service was lackluster, but the car itself was fine.
Cons: 1) Long wait at the airport to be picked up and taken to rental car office. 2) Upon arrival, many people were waiting and there was no sense of urgency from the staff to attend to them. 3) Booked an automatic and when finally helped was told they only had manual transmissions left. Upon further inspection, there were automatics in the lot but was told that would be an upgrade and they were 'already booked.' Received the option of a small discount or a ride back to the airport.

Cons: The shuttle system took forever as they were overbooked. From the time we landed to the time we drove away from the rental place it was about 5 hours.. extremely inefficient and in unprepared. The car was mediocre and didn't have any current tech or safety features.

Cons: 1. Long wait to pickup the car 2. Cars we got had at lease 250k kilometers 3. Cars we got already have too many dents. 4. Overall, the cars we got can be bought with the money we spent on rental (very old cars with lots of miles). 5. Spending money on insurance is a ripoff as we see lot of dents already on car, which means FairCar never really takes care of any dents.
Cons: The service was incredibly slow snd inefficient. We waited for 1.5 hrs to be picked up at the airport and they were nonresponsive by phone. At the office we spent three hours wAiting because they were understaffed and some employees didn’t know how to do their jobs efficiently. When we finally got our car, it had engine warnings and we had to return to the office to make sure it was okay. the car also broke down in the middle of our trip and they not provide a spare and weren’t contactable.

Cons: Worst experience ever. 3 hours from landing to driving away from agency in car. Understaffed, dumpy waiting area, AWFUL. Piece of junk car, held together with tape and wire, terrible brake pads, out of service USB port, 1/4 tank of gas although sold as full.
Pros: the car was reliable eventhough it started to make a lot noise at one point. The car had good tires. They honor my reservation when I arrived 2h late because of covid test on arrival. They told me I could return it a bit later as I rented I bit later.

Cons: 1. The van was showing engine warning lights when we just left with the van so we had to bring it back for diagnosis. 2. No one told us there were charger outlets under a dash board cover. 3. The van didn't do really well on the hills....lacked power.

Cons: - Way too long wait time for both pick up and drop off - Back left tire had a slow leak, leaving me to change my plans several times and causing undue stress - Had a check engine light come on, in which I was told only to call back if it turned red.

Cons: We waited two hours at the airport for the agency shuttle to pick us up, and then another hour to get a car. The car was 7 years old with 225,000 km. It had a flat tire and the the windshield wiper fluid reservoir leaked and wouldn’t hold fluid. The wiper blades were shot.

Cons: I had to wait a long time at the airport because there was only one driver in a van, but there were a lot of people needing to be taken to the rental station.

Cons: I waited at least an hour to get the car. The car did not have a navigation system which the reservation said it would. The brake and engine lights were and the employee told me excuses about why they were on. The windshield wipers needed to be replaced. The tire tread was low, especially in the back. Tires in that condition would fail the state inspection where I live. The brakes also needed servicing, since they would pulsate when braking. The seats were also stained.
Pros: Nothing. It took us an hour and half to get our car. They also charged us the same price to be downgraded to a smaller sized car.
Cons: They require a credit card in the name of the driver for a 3,000 dollar deposit?! That’s way too high. But either way, this was not written anywhere BEFORE you check out the car. It’s written on the voucher AFTER you make the reservation. It should have been listed prior to checkout as every other rental car company does this! Their cars also don’t fill properly, we went to 4 gas stations/paid 4 times and the tank didn’t fill and they tried to make it seem like it was the gas stations fault.
Pros: Value for the rental car, good condition of the car, no hassle in picking up (there's a bit of a wait because it's early high season) and dropping off. And the timely free shuttle service.

Cons: The vehicle was old. It already had more than 200,000 kms. On the ring road, the engine got very hot and it smelt burning. We waited 30 minutes and then drove at slow speed to our hotel.
Pros: Nothing. I booked a car that was supposed to meet me at the airport. It wasn't though - they drive you a few miles away from the airport. The pick up was over an hour late and when I did spot him, he would have disappeared again within 2 minutes. They don't look for you or have a board with your name. They have a board with lots of small logos on that aren't easy to spot. When I saw the driver again, I'd recognised him as the person that flitted in and out within 1 minute.
Cons: The car was sub-standard with chips in the windscreen in the driver's view. The check engine light came on before a long road trip - so I returned the car with a full tank of fuel. They don't acknowledge or respond to your complaint. They tell you that there aren't any insurance waivers even though you paid for it with Discover Cars and then they try to charge you extra to get back to the airport for your 5:30am check-in which is outside of their operating hours. Avoid them!

Cons: Refunds aren’t directly issued as cash, I had to call to call in and request the ‘credit’ to be refunded back to my credit card. When you advertise ‘free cancelation’ make sure you tell the client the real deal. Or maybe, through the cancelation process, let the customers pick if they want the money refund back to the original form of payment or if they rather keep the credit. I don’t know, it looks shady.
Cons: Upon check out, the employee charged us for a supposed traffic fine but he could not provide supporting documentation about the fine. He refused to contact his supervisor and promised to sent an email with the information later that day. He did not. We reached out to the company that day via email, and we never received a response

Cons: Multiple issues with the vehicle that meant returning to the Hire store twice on the first day in Iceland. Changing the vehicle after the second time returning but still leaving with a faulty vehicle. All the cars are showing very obvious sines of wear and tear. From Rust over the busy, broken radio antenna, knocking windscreen wipers, scratches all over the Cars Body, not very clean inside the vehicles and doors or Car boots that do not lock or unlock properly.

Cons: We were supposed to be picked up from the airport, but no one was there. Still not calling after 2 hours (there was not even answered). Driven to the company by taxi. The taxi costs were also not reimbursed by them. Had paid for a car with all-risk insurance. Upon arrival, a deposit of € 2400 was required (crazy!). We felt pretty ripped off! Never go to this organization again. All the people we spoke to who had booked a car with this organization were very dissatisfied.

Cons: The car had a bit of damage and rust. The direction was a bit off, so to drive straight I had to turn the wheel slightly to the left. The security deposit was very high for the car I got. As an example, If I was to sell that car in 2nd hand I don't think I would even receive the same value of the security deposit.

Cons: First car had a side mirror completely shattered, I refused the car and I was told that a good driver would do without a mirror. I was offered another one which was smaller and had manual instead of automatic transmission. I requested a discount because the car did not match the booking, this was not granted so I refused this one as well. I had to wait more for the next car to become available. This was in shitty condition, 250.000km mileage, doors could not be locked due to broked door sensor..

It took a very long time for them to pick us up from the airport and we had to wait at the rental desk again. They will also block your credit card for almost 3000 Euro, which is a huge sum. If you want them to block a smaller sum (about 1000 Euro)k youhave to pay an extra insurance on top of the insurance they made us already buy.

Cons: Very poorly staffed. One person doing everything. Didn't get the attention I needed. Clerk was helping me then a customer came in and he started helping him when I first picked up my car. Then when I dropped the car off, I waited in long line and they didn't stop helping the customers in front of me to help me right away.

Cons: Tried giving us incorrect car seats for our age children, had to argue to get the right one. Car covered in chips in windscreen and scratches. No car seats in the mini bus for airport transport. Gave us a half tank, when booking specified full.
Pros: The car we received served us well in the winter Icelandic weather. We had studded tires which was an unexpected but necessary surprise.

Cons: We waited for an hour at the terminal to be picked up. I had to call the company and tell them we were waiting. It took another half hour. The check out took longer than it should have. The car was beat up, the USB charging port didn't work, and the tires were worn. Technically it had a GPS as described, but it was only loaded with a French map, which obviously didn't work in Iceland. I will never use Faircar again!

Cons: The customer service is just awful, i'll never rent a car from them and I'd never recommend it. When pick-up the guy was rude and trying to make us overpay with every possible way and creating issues. We were told to drop the car at 17:30 so we don't pay "after hours" charge and when we arrived there was no one and we had to wait 20-30 minutes, thankfully our flight was late.
