DiscoverCars.com Named Gold Winner in Magellan Awards 2025

DiscoverCars.com is proud to announce winning in the Magellan Awards for the 5th time! We were named a Gold Winner in the 2025 edition of the awards in the Travel Services Marketing-Website category.

Award details

The Magellan Awards are awarded annually by the industry publication, Travel Weekly. The competition has been around for 17 years, having begun in 2008, making it one of the longest-running awards in the travel industry.

Travel Weekly is the most influential provider of news, research, opinion and analysis to the North American travel trade marketplace. It reaches a broad industry audience in print, online and face-to-face events throughout the year. Travel Weekly is a division of Secaucus, New Jersey-based Northstar Travel Group, the largest travel business-to-business travel publisher in the world.

Selection criteria of the Magellan Awards

The Magellan Awards are judged by an expert panel comprised of some of the top industry professionals. The list of judges for the 2025 edition includes:

  • Bob Lambert – Managing Director, Harvard Group International
  • Brian Robb – Former Board Chair, The Travel Institute
  • Jean-Claude Baumgarten – CEO, Crewe Assoc. and former CEO, World Travel and Tourism Council
  • Norie Quintos – Editor at Large, National Geographic Travel Media
  • Bruce Beckham – Former CEO, Tourism Cares

The jury judges nominees individually to decide if they meet the criteria for an award and if that is the Silver or Gold. The criteria are set in advance, and this means that there can be multiple winners in the same category for the same level (Gold or Silver).

Unlike other awards in the travel industry, there is no public voting, so it's not a popularity contest. Instead, the expert jury makes the final, unbiased determination.

What makes this award special

The Magellan Awards, launched in 2008 and run by Travel Weekly, are highly respected within the travel industry. Unlike consumer-voted awards, the Magellans are judged by a panel of seasoned travel experts, making them a trusted benchmark for professional excellence. They spotlight the best in the business across categories like hospitality, marketing, technology, and service—recognizing the work that often happens behind the scenes to shape world-class travel experiences. That’s part of what makes them especially meaningful in the B2B space.

Well-known brands from across the industry participate in the awards. This includes those from all of these niches:
  • Airlines and Airports
  • Cruise Lines
  • Travel Destinations
  • Hospitality
  • Travel Services
  • Travel Advisor/Agency
  • Tour Operators
  • Ground Transportation

This marks our first win in the awards since 2023.

We first won an award in them in 2020, as a Silver winner. We again were named a Silver winner in the 2021 edition. Our first taste of Gold came in 2022. That year, we also won a Silver award for this very blog, which we would again win in 2023.

What the award means for us

The fifth time of winning a Magellan Award is just as meaningful to us as the previous wins. Every award is an important token of validation that the work our team puts in is truly worth it.

The Magellan Awards, being as well-known in the travel industry as they are, are a huge boost for our B2B and commercial teams. This will help get more travel industry partners to use us as their car rental booking engine and help get more high-quality car rental suppliers to have their cars listed on our platform.

The rest of our teams, in combination with those already mentioned, are the reason why we're able to win awards such as this one. Without their tireless work, none of this would be possible. Our team members and partners care deeply about making the car rental experience as good as it can be for travelers so they can find the joy of travel without hassle or worry.
