Portugal, with its variety of roads ranging from narrow old town streets to major highways, was a great driving experience. I found the drivers to be generally courteous and not overly aggressive. Driving in the old towns is not for the faint of heart, though, and there are more traffic circles here than anywhere I've ever driven before.
Having a car allowed us to get off the main tourist routes and to explore at our own pace outside of the cities.

We traveled the north and parts of the south. Douro River is an amazing place. Bom Jesus of Braga has breath taking view of Braga city. Fatima is another place to visit. Looking for a beautiful beach, head out to Nazare. Incredible. If your into medieval times, visit Guimaraes and Tomar. Make a day trip out to Spain to Santiago de Galizia. It's beautiful
