One of Turkey’s several famous beach destinations, Dalaman has more than just its coastline going for it. Part of the historical Lycia region, it provides access to a number of ancient sites, as well as some of the best hiking along the Turkish Mediterranean. Here are three ideas for your trip:

• Beaches. Whether you call it the Turquoise Coast, Turkish Riviera, Lycian Shore, or simply beach, access to the region’s beautiful Mediterranean coastline is the number one reason why hundreds of thousands of visitors fly to Dalaman every year. Many lovely coastal stretches and resort towns such as Göcek to the east and Marmaris to the west, which are just a short drive away.
• Dalaman Train Station. Dalaman is home to one of the most beautiful train stations in all of Turkey. There’s only one catch – it is not, nor has ever been, a part of the country’s railway network. Early in the 20th century, there was a mix-up in plans when the viceroy of Egypt was in charge of constructing both the train station of Alexandria and his holiday manor in Turkey. The wrong materials arrived in Dalaman, and the train station with no railway has been one of the most famous historical oddities in the area ever since.
• Fethiye. A resort town that also offers plenty in terms of nature and history, Fethiye is one of the most popular places to visit in the region. Inhabited for millennia, it is known for landmarks such as Lycian rock carvings and stone sarcophagi and also offers great hiking opportunities in the mountains and paragliding in the sea. Every Tuesday, there is also a farmers’ market. The drive from Dalaman takes only about 40 minutes.

Terminals

The new international terminal was opened in the summer of 2018. It is connected to the domestic terminal by pathways, and you can easily walk between the two.

Location

Dalaman Airport is about 6 km (4.2 mi) from Dalaman and 95 km (59 mi) from Marmaris. Motorway D555 is the main road connecting the airport to Dalaman.

You’ll find many cafés, bars, and restaurants, some of them offering local Turkish cuisine. The shopping area is built to resemble a grand bazaar and has many stores and gift shops. There are duty-free outlets in the new terminal, in both the departures and arrivals areas. You’ll also find ATMs, a currency exchange, an on-site hotel, baby changing facilities, a children’s play area, an electronic games room, a 24/7 first aid station, and prayer rooms. Nearest gas station

Rokay Petrol, located at Merkez Mahallesi, Cengiz Topel Cd. No:1, can be reached in about eight minutes and is open 24/7. There are many other gas stations near Dalaman Airport and in the city.
