One of Turkey’s several famous beach destinations, Dalaman has more than just its coastline going for it. Part of the historical Lycia region, it provides access to a number of ancient sites, as well as some of the best hiking along the Turkish Mediterranean. Here are three ideas for your trip:
- Beaches. Whether you call it the Turquoise Coast, Turkish Riviera, Lycian Shore, or simply beach, access to the region’s beautiful Mediterranean coastline is the number one reason why hundreds of thousands of visitors fly to Dalaman every year. Many lovely coastal stretches and resort towns such as Göcek to the east and Marmaris to the west, which are just a short drive away.
- Dalaman Train Station. Dalaman is home to one of the most beautiful train stations in all of Turkey. There’s only one catch – it is not, nor has ever been, a part of the country’s railway network. Early in the 20th century, there was a mix-up in plans when the viceroy of Egypt was in charge of constructing both the train station of Alexandria and his holiday manor in Turkey. The wrong materials arrived in Dalaman, and the train station with no railway has been one of the most famous historical oddities in the area ever since.
- Fethiye. A resort town that also offers plenty in terms of nature and history, Fethiye is one of the most popular places to visit in the region. Inhabited for millennia, it is known for landmarks such as Lycian rock carvings and stone sarcophagi and also offers great hiking opportunities in the mountains and paragliding in the sea. Every Tuesday, there is also a farmers’ market. The drive from Dalaman takes only about 40 minutes.

The Dalaman surrounding is worth visiting and exploring. The local beaches from Dalaman to Kabak were about our expectation, the crystal clear water everywhere and the local cuisine was delicious, but do not succumb to the most touristic resorts as e. g. Oludeniz, only if you are paragliding lower :), then Oludeniz is the right place for you. Eternalrental service was the best partner for our trip in the Dalaman area.

You have to pay the airport car park ticket which was less than £1. The fuel is low when you receive the car but there are plenty of fuel stations near the airport. On the return, Pegasus was on Google Maps so we found it very easily but Babadon was not. The rep said to look for Pegasus rather than Babadon.
Needed the car for Dalaman Airport. We were staying in Kalkan and needed the car as we were in the hills. Visited Kas, Saklikent, Patara, Kekova and Xanthos. Really useful to have the car. Roads were quiet but we did go in November.

We travelled to Kalkan, and the area was beautiful. We had no issues driving in Turkey. Dalaman Airport is fairly new so very clean and efficient. You do have to go through 3 bag searches before you depart but I had no issue with that. If you are ready for a Burger King/McDonalds or Kentucky before you go home you will be well pleased :-)

I would highly recommend Pandora for car rental - the service is very quick, efficient, and significantly cheaper than established international brands. The cars are clean inside and out - the car itself wasn't a great car, but this is pretty standard for most rental companies in Turkey.
Best thing about them is the service - their rep was waiting for us at the arrivals meet n great - which made the whole process very quick, instead of having to queue...and dropping off was also very quick, as their rep was waiting for us at the departure terminal in Dalaman airport.
