A popular beach holiday destination, the Mediterranean waves of Dalaman attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. More than 30 airlines fly to the southwestern corner of Turkey during the summer months, bringing tourists from all over Europe, including the United Kingdom. But while the beaches are undoubtedly Dalaman’s main draw, there are a number of other interesting attractions that you can easily visit with the car you’ve hired. Here’s our pick of them:

• Dalyan. Founded by Alexander the Great 2,300 years ago, Dalyan is a calm town with a stunning past. The area is home to the ancient city of Kaunos with its impressive Acropolis, temple ruins, and city walls. Dalyan is also a spa town famous for its mud baths and is right next door to Iztuzu Beach, one of the nicest in the area. Located just 24 km (15 mi) northwest of Dalaman, Dalyan can be reached in less than 30 minutes.
• Marmaris. The main town of the area, Marmaris is brimming with life. Its centre is full of beach bars, restaurants, and local and foreign sea lovers. Home to many beautiful beaches, the town also boasts other attractions like the Marmaris Castle and the nearby Heaven Island famous for its caves. Located about 88 km (53 miles) west of Dalaman, Marmaris can be reached in about 1 hour and 15 minutes by car.
• Fethiye. Another notable town that mixes classical history with a beautiful coastline, Fethiye is about a 40-minute drive east of Dalaman. The area is famous for the impressive Lycian rock tombs that have been carved straight into the coastal cliffs and the mysterious sarcophagi left by the same ancient culture. Fethiye is also famous as a paragliding hub has a farmers’ market that takes place every Tuesday. The Lycian Way, the most famous thru-hiking trail in Turkey, begins (or ends) here.

The new international terminal was opened in the summer of 2018. It is connected to the domestic terminal by pathways, and you can easily walk between the two.

Location

Dalaman Airport is about 6 km (4.2 mi) from Dalaman and 95 km (59 mi) from Marmaris. Motorway D555 is the main road connecting the airport to Dalaman.

You’ll find many cafés, bars, and restaurants, some of them offering local Turkish cuisine. The shopping area is built to resemble a grand bazaar and has many stores and gift shops. There are duty-free outlets in the new terminal, in both the departures and arrivals areas. You’ll also find ATMs, a currency exchange, an on-site hotel, baby changing facilities, a children’s play area, an electronic games room, a 24/7 first aid station, and prayer rooms. Nearest petrol station

Rokay Petrol, located at Merkez Mahallesi, Cengiz Topel Cd. No:1, can be reached in about eight minutes and is open 24/7. There are many other petrol stations near Dalaman Airport and in the city.
