Essence Car Rental at Dalaman Airport

Pros: Ease of pick up and drop off. Representative was at the airport waiting and dropped us off immediately after car inspection

Cons: Initial communication on the evening of the car breakdown and telling us to wait for a recovery the next day. This didn’t inconvenience us too much as no plans but if I did then we would have been stuck

Pros: Great friendly service and quick check-in and check out process. Great communication also in advance of the rental.

Cons: We arranged to drop the car at 9am and we needed the terminal transfer, the agent arrived at 9:30 in a foul mood, didn’t acknowledge us and eventually I had to ask if his company would pay for new flights if we miss ours, he then blew up and started shouting that I was a problem. Other men from the car hire company next to his had to divert him away from me. Another man was asked to drop us to the terminal my wife asked the angry man to sign the hire agreement and he threw the pen at her.

Pros: It was easy and no waste of time

Pros: Essence cars would not accept american express card with which i had made the initial booking. I was left stranded because I didn't have any other credit card and was encouraged to spend €500 to purchase further insurance and then they would accept american express card.

Cons: Actively trying to extract extra money for something I booked and then reading something in minutes detail that said american express card wasn't acceptable.

Pros: We were collected from the arrivals area by a very welcoming chap that took our bags and suitcases and loaded hem into the car. Then a short drive to the Air Conditioned office where we were given chilled cartons of water to drink. Very refreshing. They explained the paperwork including the small print which was in Turkish and English so I knew what I was signing. Quick look and both parties took their photos and off we went after signing. On return, a quick inspection, and drop off at airport

Pros: The only thing I would change is for the paperwork to be signed off whilst we were present to ensure there is no ambiguity with the condition the car was returned.We know that it was in identical condition to that of when we hired it and although the renter walked around the car and checked it he did not sign off the paperwork so we are just waiting on the return of our deposit . Other than that, we could not fault the service.

Cons: I booked collection at the airport but it is actually a mile or so down the road. Because we were 5 people we had to leave our sons behind and they made 2 trips. Not ideal but it did all work out ok in the end. Car was smaller than I had expected but that could have been my fault.

Cons: nothing. They made us go from the airport to their office which was a 10 minute drive because our car had been given to another client allegedly. They took a long time with all of the paperwork and then as we set off we detected a number of issues - first the car had absolutely no petrol. That is not usually the case. It was damaged inside including the air conditioning vent cover falling off and the boot's cover nowhere to be seen. The worst thing of all was the light not working.

Cons: The fact that when I paid the balance on picking up the car, that Essence cars didn't want me to pay in Pounds sterling (the balance amount I had been emailed that I would have to pay) , they wanted Turkish Lira at a pretty bad rate of exchange (Sharp practice IMO). Had I known this when I booked the car, I would have paid the full amount then - I was about £20 out of pocket ..... Not happy and you don't get this with Enterprise cars

Pros: Very flexible and responsive, modified our pickup time twice with no hesitation. Even was able to meet us at 2am outside of normal business hours. I had a medical emergency during the trip and Essense was able to send someone to pick up the car from where I had parked it before going to the hospital. There was a fee, but that's reasonable since it cost someone 4 hours driving

Cons: Cars aren't at the terminal so that costs 5 minutes. Not a big deal, but I would have preferred to pick the car up at the airport
