Garuda Car Rental at Mauritius Airport

Pros: The Jimny is a lovely little car and perfect for exploring Mauritius using 4WD when needed. The staff were very friendly.

Cons: The pickup location is a few minutes away from the airport but they provided a meet & greet service and took us back to the airport after drop-off so this only added a few minutes

Cons: We rented a car for 3.5 weeks and when we returned the car, the staff from Garuda told us that we were liable for the washing of the car only when we dropped it off as they found that the car was not clean. It had to be paid in cash as the carwash did not have a card machine. We were not informed about this policy of them when we collected the car. Never in my entire life I had to return a rental car cleaned especially because the car was not clean at collection. Felt totally ripped off!

Only one staff, even rude, arrived 20 minutes late, and we had to wait for him to deal with the customers he went to collect at the airport. Never again.

Cons: We rented a jimny but got a very worn Kia instead (which was not the same size or status of a jimmy so severely overpriced) with low battery in the key, torn seats and no wiper fluid, only water. And the wind wipes were so old they barely worked. The car was supposed to have service many many miles ago.

Cons: My rental car had both front tires. At almost bald condition. Infact I got a flat in one tire and took it to a local tire shop and was told both front tires are completely worn out. I had to pay for the tire replacement out of pocket. Rental agency are responsible for providing a car with decent usable tires. Bad experience don't recommend this car company.

Instead of using the deposit as every other car rental, the agents insisted on charging us a second time the maximum amount, saying they would release the deposit in parallel, and being totally unclear what would happen if the repair would cost less than the deposit. It took much negotiation, threats to call the police to change their behavior. In the end they settled on charging only 60% of maximum. Won't go back

Cons: Unfortunately, we had a negative experience with this car rental company. They charged 8 euros more than the agreed amount without any explanation or notification. Additionally, when returning the car, they attempted to refund only 400 euros of the deposit(cash)instead of 500 euros, and we only received the full amount after a long dispute. We also received it in the form of 400 euros and 4,900 rupies

Cons: The Garuda Car Rental is about 5mins away from the airport - so a little daunting arriving during darkness hours with 2 children and having to drive offsite to a car wash/car rental car park. And I didn’t have wifi so a little tricky to navigate - the guy was super nice and allowed me to use his wifi to download google maps which was a life saver!

Other point is if u don't want 4% card change, take cash as it saves.

Cons: When we were picking up the car, he was full of scratches and other damage. We’ve tooked some photos and (most) of the damage was mentioned on the paper. The representative said: we knew that the car has damage and we won’t fall over (minor) damage. When we’ve returned the car an other representative went straight to a scratch below in a corner. He said that I have to pay 10.000 MUR (230€) for that damage. I refused and I said the damage was already there when picking up the car.

Thereafter, I was made to pay for an 8 hour parking ticket when leaving with the car, even though I was there for less than an hour (I was however late to collect the car by about 3 hours)

Cons: Auto car was delivered and then tried to convince us why it auto would be better than manual after having booked a manual. The guys who helped us were very rude. Dirty car. No petrol. Hand break was not always working. Indicator was not good. Bluetooth does not work.
