Our two weeks were great. The last couple days were very rainy, however this forced us to take some time to just relax, even if it meant not visiting some places we planned to. We particularly enjoyed Grand Baie and Flic en Flac. The East was a bit too windy to enjoy the beach and the South (while beautiful and offering great snorkeling) had limited options for eating and shopping for gifts. For shopping, the market in Central Flac was great, much better than in Port Louis (which was overpriced and focused too much on tourists).

Our trip was really fantastic. We enjoyed a day trip from Flic-en-flac to the island of Ile aux Benitier which included snorkelling with wild dolphins in Tamarin Bay, we spent a day at Casella park with many different animals; Zebras, lions, birds, etc, we met the giant tortoises & watched crocodile feeding at La Vanille, we enjoyed the buzzing atmosphere at the large Central Flacq market, we spent a day learning about Maritian history and the process of suger production at La Sucre and enjoyed many beaches around the island including Belle Mare/Palmar beaches in the North East, Trou aux Biches, Grand Bay & Pembere beach in the North West and Flic-en-Flac and Le Morne beach in the South West.

Mauritius is a beutiful paradise island- we have no doubts. Unfortunately there is a lot of stray dogs, that seemed to be left alone. And it’s difficult to enjoy paradise, while observing how animals suffer. I believe that there are plenty of good people who care about them, but it’s worth to educate society to sterilize dogs, cats, provide them some spots with water and dry food, maybe introduce chips and registration to find owner.
I was thinking that Hinduism is about caring and respecting every form of life. Apparently dogs and cats are not included.

Do you homework before you go. Not all food stalls on the beaches are cheap. make sure you have a GPS as well as a map. One can get lost very easily even though its a small island.

Having a rental car in Mauritius is by FAR the best way to travel around, and Discover Cars / Mauriconnect offered amazing value for money. There's no Uber, and as the public transport is pretty erratic: we saw a ton of private taxis on the road which costs a bomb... We had the flexibility, comfort, and the price was incredible for what it was. Highly recommend! We did literally the entire round trip around the island, and took 1-2 days exploring inland. Enjoy!

chamarel is expensive for what is propose; pamplemousse garden is super nice; flik en flacq and mont choisie beach are super beautifull to swim; but pointe au canonnier and trou d'eau douce are better to see coral and fishes.
