Cons: It's not about the rental car, but it's the backwards thinking in Costa Rica which requires all car rentals to get the over priced insurance. On top of that, when you return the car, they inspect it from top to bottom. In the US, when you rent and get the insurance, you can just drop off the car and they won't even inspect it. I had to stand there for 5 minutes while he looks at even the roof of the car. but when you pick up, they don't even point anything out.

Cons: They put out a lower rate to get you in, then hit you with a MANDATORY INSURANCE , by the time I paid the insurance, It jumped from $340 to $750. $400 insurance for 7 days! That on top of I paid $75 insurance when I booked. I was waiting for 30 minutes to get my car. 3 other people infront of me has arguments with them over insurance. Last time I rented from Sixt, cost more to start, but no hidden mandatory Insurance.

Pros: Good Price. People were nice. quick shuttle. Car went well on the hilly interior of Costa Rica. (always shifted to manual vs. automatic)
Cons: Car was banged up when we picked it up, and had less than half the damage recorded. Windows inside were dirty, and car not very clean in general. Windshield wipers were well past replacing, which made visibility difficult when raining or into sun.
Pros: They provided great service. They have a kiosk at the airport but the car pickup locus just off site a little. They had a large comfortable van to transport renters back and forth, we didn’t have to wait long either time.
Cons: The car was a bit older than most rental cars, had over 70,000 kms and a brake light went towards the end of our 2 week rental. The car was clean, but smelt like a cheep car freshener when we picked it up, the smell dissipated after a couple days. The car interior had more wear than any rental I’ve had. The other thing I didn’t love was that even though I opted for Insurance, Costa Rica has a requirement that you purchase government run car insurance that was double the car rental itself.
Pros: The first agent was unpleasant and impatient with us. The next agent was much better and explained the things clearly.

Pros: Nothing. Terrible service. Our car had the rental extended and they were scrambling to find us and our friends another 2 cars. We were waiting for 4 hours and missed our afternoon guided hike that we had paid for and was non refundable.
Cons: I was quoted around $500 for 7 day rental in San Jose Costa Rica February 14-21. When picking up the car a Economy agent won’t let me have the car without adding $300 additional insurance. He claimed that’s “company policy” and is mandatory. I ended up paying over $800 for six day rental for a basic economy sedan, which is the most expensive for my 12 country plus rental car experience. Very disappointed!!

Cons: extremely misleading webpage to start. I understood i was buying a great insurance package with the car. turns out I didn't. I was told at the counter when we arrived, that my insurance from my credit card and the insurance that I could transfer from my own car would not be accepted and was not valid. Everything I researched previous said that it was. Instead, when I arrived, the cost of the rental went from 1000 canadian to nearly 2000. This is absolutely astronomical and pure theft.
Cons: -Our cash money was stolen at the Economy rent a car's office and they refused to make a discount on the car. Their cameras were not working and, if they were, we would have seen who stole the money. We think employees stole the money. 2 persons looking like clients were in line while we were booking the car, they were between us and our things that were on the chairs at the office. We then saw the 2 same persons working at the gate.

We were not told that we would be required to have mandatory insurance coverage that was way more than the rental car. The original rental was $263. We had to pay over $560 plus almost $50 paid in advance to Discover Cars, for a total of almost $600 instead of $260 upon arrival to pick up the car. Absolutely ridiculous! Will never use Discover Cars

Cons: The overall experience unfortunately felt like a scam simply because the mandatory insurnace tripled the cost of the rental, and this price was not disclosed upfront at time of booking. This is absolutely unacceptable. Furthermore, after explaining that I already had car rental insurance through my credit card, I was informed that this was not accepted due to the pandemic, unless written proof was provided right on the spot, which I could not have possibly printed off at the time of pickup.

Cons: The price for the rental car basically doubled at the time of pick up. They make you take their insurance even though I wanted to deny it because I was covered by my credit card. Apparently, they also have a right to change the price for the rental car based on availability so you never know how much you will pay until you pick up the car. I'd suggest staying away from this company.
Pros: The car had a flat tire and I advised the employees of the low tire. On the road ended up with a flat tire and had to have the spare switched out. No comp was provided after bringing it the the agents attention at return.
Cons: Called ahead, talked to an agent, told them about my car insurance, was told everything was good. Upon arrival, the agent who said he would be working was off and the next agent refused my car insurance and said I had to pay over 2000$ for their insurance.

Didn't give me a proper rundown of the car so when it got dark I couldn't find the lights.... there are two buttons for it. Not typical and needed explaining. Then worded things so it was confusing. Called customer service several times, each time got different answers. Never transferred to the actual office - inconsistent and never called back with time sensitive issues. ruined a full day of travel.

Even though we had our own insurance from our credit card we had to further add comprehensive insurance which covered us if we got into an accident with anyone and injured them. It cost us almost another $300. Having this fully explained at time of reserving online would have been helpful.

My booking receipt said the total for my trip was around $75 and then I had to pay about an additional $300 for a liability waiver I was never told about. I am very disappointed in discover and economy for hiding this information. It is dishonest. Car was very beat up and smelled a little weird as well.

A young driver fee of 10.50 EUR per day applies to drivers under the age of 22, with a maximum of 52.50 EUR per rental.
There is no maximum age.
A Senior driver fee is not applied.
The driver license must have been issued by authorized authorities at least 1 year(s) before the date of the commencement of the rental.
In addition to the regular driver license, an International Driving Permit is also mandatory if the national driver license is not written in English.

A local renter is defined as a renter who has a license issued in Costa Rica and who is flying into the country without a return ticket.
In order to pick up the car, the following documents are required: passport, valid driver license, credit card on a main drivers name, booking voucher.
The exact deposit is determined on pick up since the amount is dependent on the type of vehicle.
Young drivers are subject to a higher deductible/excess.
It is possible to pay and leave the deposit only with the following payment methods: MasterCard credit card, VISA credit card, American Express credit card.
The following are accepted methods of payment:Debit cards.
Cash, Prepaid cards is/are not accepted.
The main driver must provide a physical payment card in their name with enough funds to cover the deposit to pick up the car. The rental company will neither accept virtual credit cards (e.g., GooglePay or ApplePay) nor someone else’s card (including family members).
Prices for extras are shown on the booking page.
Adding additional drivers is allowed.
There is an additional charge for each driver.
Underage additional drivers are subject to both Young Driver and Additional Driver fees.
When picking up the vehicle, all drivers must be present and must provide valid documentation.
It is allowed to add up to 3 additional drivers.
Delivery/collection service is not provided.
If the renter would like to extend the rental period, renter should return to the car hire office at the end of the rental period to sign a new agreement.
Period of time, during regular working hours, when the car is still guaranteed for the customer, if the customer is late for pick up (the grace period) is 120 minutes.
