MEX RENT A CAR at San Jose Airport

Pros: Simple, efficient, fast.

Cons: Very difficult to find the place : no sign in front of the road. Should add this.

Cons: Extra insurance Location is hard to find in San Jose. No outside sineage

Pros: Une fois les problèmes de début réglés, la prise en charge a été bonne. Même si nous n'avons pas eu la voiture qui été promise au départ. Mais même catégorie.

Cons: La prise en charge. Nous étions perdue à l'arrivée à San José. Personne nous attendait. Le taxi ne trouvait pas l'agence. La plateforme téléphonique ne répondait plus et lorsque nous sommes arrivées devant l'agence, l'agence était fermée, ils étaient alles chercher des client à l'aéroport.

Cons: I booked a Suzuki Grand Vitara or similar and got an unheard of Chinese brand with really poor performance. “Similar” is not just the same size it should also be similar quality. Service standards were really poor, staff on collection were rude and dismissive. When I asked how long until the transfer I was told “minutes” and when I asked how long specifically I was dismissed. Really poor will never use again and certainly won’t recommend.

Pros: They offered us a choice of 3 cars. We picked one that had the most gas because I didn't want to be forced to find gas so soon after setting out. We got a VGV chinese car with low miles that performed acceptably.

Cons: I didn't understand the coverage very well. Might have nothing to do with Mex Rent a Car but we got full coverage and at the end of the trip I saw something on the paperwork like full coverage went up to $3200 or something like that. Spooky.

Pros: Everything straightforward. Easy to rent from. We got what we paid for and no extra costs.

Nos entregaron un coche con numerosos desperfectos (tantos que no se podían detallar en documento de entrega de vehículo), no obstante , nos indicaron que no había ningún problema ya que la compañía ya era conocedora de los desperfectos. Al devolver el coche nos los atribuyeron y nos hicieron pagar 850USD (bajo la amenaza que si no los pagábamos nos retendrían la fianza completa). Les pedimos las fotografías o documentos que avalaran su versión, no los tenían, evidentemente.

Cons: Aprovecharon que no habían recogido los numerosos desperfectos existentes en el coche en el momento de entregárnoslo en el documento de entrega, solo los habían marcado genéricamente, para atribuírnoslos en el momento de la devolución. No nos permitieron hablar con la persona que nos había hecho la entrega y nos cobraron por unos desperfectos que NO HICIMOS un total de 850USD. Además las formas con que nos atendieron fueron muy desagradables, negándose a a tendernos.

They tried to say a pre-existing window chip was our fault, but we were fortunate to have a video showing the chip was already there.

Cons: Hard to find rep at airport. Given automatic car but manual was requested. No parcel shelf in vehicle making it unsafe to leave anything in boot even for short periods. Old vehicle with lots of marks that all had to be identified at collection.

Pros: Efficient in arranging the car and dropping it off.

Cons: The car chosen was not available and the “similar” was not similar, but an old Suzuki Vitara with over 150k kilometres on the clock, with warped brake disks and the brake pads were on their way out. Started squeaking on the second to last day. The car had a few bumps and knocks e.g. the front bumper was not sitting correctly when we collected it and the trimming inside the car was tired. This was noted on collection and no issues were raised when dropped off.

Cons: 1) Finding the Staff at the airport was tricky as the sign said "USave Rental" and not "MEX Rent", so we went on a few rounds until we found the representative 2) Be aware that the car office is not at the airport (which we knew about), but despite close distance the traffic there is terrible so it took us +1h to get to the rental place after we found the agent, and also to get to airport after we dropped the car.Just be aware and incorporate that in your planning!

Pros: It was a horrible experience, my flight was slightly delayed, just a couple of hours for a long 11h flight across from Europe just to find out that because of my delay the car had been attributed to someone else and there were no more cars available from this rent a car for me. Hard to believe and extremely disappointing. Also they charged me. So now I’m going to take legal action against rent a car and discovercars.com. Overall avoid both services.

Pros: I landed at San Jose airport and I had to call the staff to ensure I’d get picked up but they stayed after closing time to make sure I received my car! Check in process was very smooth and they accepted my credit card rental car insurance (CDW) so the rental ended up being extremely cheap! Checkout process was also very smooth and they dropped my off to the airport afterwards as well. Very kind staff. I loved that 3rd party liability insurance was included thru DiscoverCars.com.

Cons: The gas tank was at 1/8 so it was a little troublesome giving it back at 1/8 but was fine.

Cons: When I picked up the car, the agent charged me a few hundred dollars extra for unspecified local taxes. On the Discover Cars email, it said it included everything, so I felt disappointed and ripped off.

Cons: Provided a car with a poor clutch that gave out to me and took hours for roadside assistance then charged me $2,000 for towing and a new clutch. They assured me they would provide all documents and invoices that week so I could file an insurance claim but it took multiple emails insisting to received the proper documents to file the claim. It seems like they charge $2,000 which is much higher than the actual expense with hopes of making more money from the insurance company.

I had additional insurance from Discover Car and the agents from Mex did not try to sell me another insurance. The 2500 USD safety deposit was returned at the desk after dropping off the car and it was immediately available on my card. I definitely recommend Mex Rent a Car San Jose and will rent again from them on my next trip to Costa Rica.
