Pros: Nothing.

Cons: I booked with Routes, but on arrival the contract was with Avanti without prior notice. I confirmed in advance that the car would be a 4x4, yet they gave me an AWD, which couldn’t reach my hotel. The replacement 4x4 was in very poor condition and later had a clutch failure. I was charged for towing and repairs with no written report or invoice. Unprofessional and unreliable. And probably a SCAM.

Pros: The car was fine that’s it. Everything else was a horrible experience by all 3 parties renting.

Cons: I bout full coverage. Full coverage should be full coverage. I was told Amex did cover anything and then told the counter would need a letter stating they. After getting Amex on the phone and getting them to send a letter I was told to nevermind we know they cover several things no need. Just lies. Also why am I getting charge $185 or so for tag fees on you cars. We will never rent from you again and will fill up you website with bad reviews. This was bait and switch at its best. CR

Pros: The upgraded our car for “free.” Staff were friendly. Car wasn’t based on per km rate.

Cons: There was no formal receipt after paying approx $1500 in hidden fees upon arrival. Calculations were done with a calculator and a number was typed into a visa machine for you to pay without any formal confirmation of what you were paying for.

Pros: Tiziana, the representative that helped us in San Jose, was an absolute angel to work with. Not only did she save me a significant amount on my rental by recommending that I use my American Express insurance instead of the coverage the sell in-house, but when we had a little fender-bender, she was kind and patient and extremely efficient in handling the claim on her end. I had read negative things about car rental companies in Costa Rica, but quickly had my faith restore by these folks.

Rate includes
Free cancellation with a full refund up to 48 hours before your pick-up time, Unlimited mileage, Collision Damage Waiver (deductible: ~€ 785.00 - € 1400.00), Theft Protection, Third Party Liability (TPL), Airport surcharge, Free modifications, State Tax.
Driver requirements
Minimum rental age is 21 years.
A young driver fee applies to drivers under the age of 25.

Maximum rental age is 70 years.
A Senior driver fee is not applied.

The driver license must have been issued by authorized authorities at least 1 year(s) before the date of the commencement of the rental.

In addition to the regular driver license, an International Driving Permit is also mandatory if the national driver license is not written in English.
Please note that the International Driving Permit is valid only if it is accompanied by a regular driver's license, is issued by an official authority or government-authorized organization, and is in physical (not digital) form.

In order to pick up the car, the following documents are required: passport, valid driver license, credit card on a main drivers name, booking voucher.
Deposit and deductible policy


Payment policy
The main driver must provide a physical payment card in their name with enough funds to cover the deposit to pick up the car. The rental company will neither accept virtual credit cards (e.g., GooglePay or ApplePay) nor someone else’s card (including family members).

The following credit cards issued on the main driver's name are accepted: MasterCard, Visa, American Express. Any other cards or cash payments are not accepted.
Optional extras and services
Available special equipment: GPS Navigation system, Child seat (2-4 years of age), Booster seat (4-10 years of age).

All extras are available at the rental counter. Prices vary, depending on the rental period.
Booked extras are not guaranteed. All extras are subject to availability at the rental counter.

Fuel policy
The vehicle is provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with the same amount in order to avoid additional charges.
Business hours
Service outside of business hours is available by request and for an additional charge.
Period of time, during regular working hours, when the car is still guaranteed for the customer, if the customer is late for pick up (the grace period) is 120 minutes.
