Airport Car Rental
Located on the southeastern coast, Paphos is one of the most historically interesting attractions in Cyprus, boasting multiple landmarks that date back to the Ancient Hellenic world. On top of that, it also provides access to the nearby cities of Larnaca and Limassol, as well as beautiful nature and the unexplored interior of the country. Here are three places to visit in and around it:
- Paphos Archaeological Park. Inhabited for thousands of years, Cyprus was an important part of the Ancient Hellenic world – and Paphos is arguably its most historic city. One of the best places to learn more about this heritage is the Archaeological Park. Located on a peninsula about a ten-minute drive south of the city center, the park is home to the houses of Dionysus and Theseus, two notable Roman villas.
- The Tombs of the Kings. The Tombs of the Kings are ancient burial sites only a 5-minute drive from the city center. Carved into solid rocks, the tombs and chambers offer a fascinating glimpse into history.
- Aphrodite Water Park. A favorite place for many visiting families, this is probably the best water park in all of Cyprus. In addition to many slides, there are plenty of other attractions for all ages to enjoy. Appropriately situated on Poseidonos Avenue, the park is some 7 km (4.3 miles) south of the city center, and can be reached in 15 minutes by car.
- Aphrodite’s Rock. Located approximately 20 minutes southeast of Paphos, you'll discover the legendary Aphrodite's Rock, also known as Petra tou Romiou. According to the myth, this is where the goddess Aphrodite emerged from the sea, making it her birthplace. There is also a small pebble beach on the shore, which is a great place to relax and take a refreshing dip in the water.
- Edro III Shipwreck. Situated in the vicinity of the Sea Caves, northwest of Paphos, the Edro III Shipwreck has gained popularity as a notable tourist attraction. This ship found itself stranded by turbulent seas in 2011, and it now serves as a captivating photo backdrop and an ideal location for watching the sunset.
- Akamas. One of the most popular day trips from Paphos, Akamas is a large peninsula and a nature preserve. Made up of a wild coastline, forest, and several gorges, the area is a popular boating and hiking destination (although, due to its protected status, only a part of it is open to visitors). Situated north of Paphos, the peninsula can be reached in about 60-90 minutes depending on the traffic.

Cyprus was a fantastic adventure! I loved it. In 7 days, we traveled 1,500 km and visited the most beautiful beaches. Pre-season is definitely a great time to travel, as the roads are less crowded and easier to navigate. Plus, it's a delight to find free parking everywhere. Riding camels and going on buggy rides were truly unforgettable experiences.

Overall renting experience was great and easy. Do make pictures before you leave rental office, as I had to prove there were scratches before we rented the car, take time to document all scratches/dents/ any other damage before you go and take pictures and videos of damages as it can save you money.

Troodos mountain villages have very narrow streets and blind bends which I found a bit stressful for driving. Best things in Cyprus: Mr John's Famagusta ghost town tour, the beach at Konnos Bay, seeing turtle nests on Lara beach, the ruins at ancient Kourion, Limassol old town.

I would not expect that less than 24 hours after renting the car, driving home less than 40 km, leaving the car under roof, turning off headlights (after the short drive from Pahos to Pissouri) - I could not move the car the following evening, since the battery was empty.
I was expecting the person in charge at Aercar know the area and send the electrician at once.
We had to wait for him (to replace the battery) more than an hour, missing all open restaurants at that area.

Visitors should consider places they will visit and select the appropriate type of car to be rented. If they are planning country/crossover trips ... a suitable car with high suspension for off-road travelling should be rented. This will get them closer to points of destinatin. we had to leave the car and walk ... but that was just right for us :-).

As Cyprus does not have a developped intercity public transit the best way to visit multiple regions is by car so I definitely recommend renting a car even if you stay in one place. The roads are in good condition though not excellent, but are well signaled, one should not have any trouble driving there. I recommend visiting all the 3 big cities on the south part Paphos, Limassol and Larnaca and additionaly Ayia Napa and the beatiful historic part of Nicosia( on both sides of the border). Also recommend to havea trip to the Troodos mountains, the road to the mountain villages and monastaires gets you very beatiful landsaapes and if you are lucky a cooler weather.

If you are looking for sightseeing and historical sites in Paphos, it is better to take a car with big wheels, because the detours, road repairs and roads to some sites and outskirts are not designed for small, low city cars.

In the beginning it was hard to get used to drive on the opposite side, but when you drive slowly is it safe and you get used to it quickly, be careful especially in a traffic light junction. In overall driving in Paphos is fun and this is the recommended way to explore the island.

Paphos is an easy place to navigate and get around. Motorway links either end of the island and is good for exploring other areas of Cyprus. The Troodos mountains are a must and are spectacular. The road from Limmasol is much flatter and easier to drive on.

Rent the car from the airport as it saves on taxi fares. There are numerous renting companies, most are off site but offer a good service of meet and greet to take you to their compounds. Avoid the Hertz types and go for the locals

Pathos was lovely we visited a few restaurant when we were there. The first and last bar restaurant was great value for money and I would recommend it.

We have rented cars in Paphos and Larnaca airports many times as we come to Cyprus at least four times a year, this car that we've rented was the worse. Moreover, we weren't happy with the way the lady met us. She started the meeting by scolding us that she didn't have details of our flight, and that we were (SO LUCKY) that the car was still available, as we were a bit delayed as many other passengers by the procedures at the passport control desk. We could not wait to drop back the car and rented instead of it from Europe car a new car that met the value of what we payed for it.
