Pros: I was able to complete a pre-check in so I was out the door with my car in mere minutes. The agent who checked me in was fast, efficient and friendly. The depot is only about 10 minutes from the airport and the price I paid was less than half of what rentals at the terminal cost. It wasn't a new car, but it was clean and comfortable. I appreciated that Hao didn't take an extortionate bond like some independant agencies do. Bond was only like $300, instead of $3k. Will definately be back.

Pros: Cars condition was disgraceful. Over 200,000 km. It ran okay but the wiper blades were shot. The engine was tired in the front tires worn past safety margins. I tried to address at the office in Queenstown and was treated rudely by the manager who essentially told me that dealing with safety issues was my responsibility. Never again.

Cons: I had paid for the after hours return car pickup for my family and luggage so I wouldn’t have to worry about getting multiple Ubers in the early morning to fit all 5 of us and 5 large bags. But the service was only a small mini van that still didn’t fit everyone and I still had to take everyone to the airport first and leave them there while I dropped off the car on my own because they wouldn’t fit in the after hours return vehicle. If I had known this ahead of time I wouldn’t have paid for it.

Pros: Great pick up and drop off in their shuttle. This made everything very easy. The hire place is close to the airport and has a petrol station one block away. The car ran well. I may recommend you don’t put those smelly things in the car. They are super toxic and are endocrine disrupters.

Cons: My bond was actually deducted from my account. I await this return, and don’t think I should have to wait up to 7 days to see it in my account. It’s meant to be “held” but not debited. I asked about it and the guy basically dismissed my question. In the email I sent they said it was on hold, yet my bank statement says it’s been debited.

Pros: 181000 km on van. Paperwork showed no scratches or dents on van, counter guy says don't sweat it, the customer is responsible for documenting all of that. The paperwork was all done on my phone so no way to document defects. We made videos but felt very uneasy with it all.

Cons: Shuttle made us wait over 30 minutes to pick us up in dark at airport. Then wait over 20 to return to airport after for flight.

You have to walk up stairs to get to their counter so you cannot leave the luggage unguarded. Also the pick up in Queenstown is not in the airport.

Pros: We did our check-in online and were able to get the keys right away upon arriving at their store via their free shuttle service from the airport. It was overall very smooth both during pickup and drop-off. It is always good to have their full coverage insurance for a peace of mind when travelling. We like that we were able to get a car reserved days before our arrival with the rego (license number plate) in order for us to book some tourist location in advance e.g. deer park at Queenstown.

Cons: We did not get the make and model of the car that we booked. We were given a smaller car that did not meet our expectations. It did not have cruise control. It did not have GPS connectivity. Very high humming sound when ran on battery power. It did not appear to have power steering (too hard). We requested several times over the phone and via email to swap the car, but no response from the staff. We visited your office personally, but the staff said you did not have a car with cruise control.

Cons: Hao rentals acted disgracefully when returning the car which was also old and in an unsafe condition. The car was already full of paint chips that had been painted over, however when we returned the car they pointed out a tiny mark and demanded we pay $1,500 or we would not be allowed leave the country or be dropped to the airport, my wife and I felt threatened and extremely intimidated by the staff on site. Upon researching the company further we discovered they have done this to others before.

Pros: The hybrid car was an excellent choice for NZ with fuel prices around NZ$2.85/ltr. Fuel economy was around 5.4ltrs/100klm.

Cons: The car's manual was entirely non English so it was impossible to find out the finer details on how the car operated. There was no way to convert the on screen warning display to English. You have to check if the car has a spare. When we picked up the car they had already loaded our bags on top of the spare, so I didn't check. 20 day later, we realised that we had no spare. We were very lucky not to have had a puncture.

I don't even believe they necessarily had the car I wanted, probably just give everyone an MG because they have so many because they' cheap.

I tried calling for 15 min and no one picked up, I then emailed and someone said they would come in 5 minutes. I felt this was very unprofessional.
