Cons: The man driving the shuttle when we arrived was one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. He initially refused to collect our family and kept telling me it was policy for them to only collect one member of a travel group… despite the rest of the van being full of a large group of his friends. He was shady as heck. We also didn’t get the car type we booked. The car we got was old, seals falling off, stinky. I’m genuinely surprised it got us through the trip.

Cons: We had booked a baby seat. The seat was not installed, and none of the staff had any idea how to help us install it. We stood in the cold for over and hour trying to figure it out on our own. We also booked snow chains. The day before we went to the snow, I decided to pull the chains out and practice putting them on. One chain was missing a key part. The next day we drove back to Hao Rentals to ask for new chains. Staff were very helpful and gave us a brand new pair, however they were too small.

Pros: It was great to be collected from the airport promptly, and taken to the office. The staff were super kind, and made the process quick and easy! Dropping off the vehicle was also hassle free, as they have assigned bays to park, and wait for the shuttle back to the airport. Would use again!

Cons: Whether this is relevant to Discover Cars, or the sub-company who handled the actual car rental & handover I will leave that up to you. However, HAO Car Rentals who supplied us the car were horrible! Not only was the car dirty inside and out at pickup, we had full cover insurance through Discover Cars and when we had a flat tyre on the final day, not only did HAO not answer any phone calls they later had an issue with us changing the tyre ourselves and bringing back the car on the space saver

Refused to drop us off, another couple caught up in this, didn't care we would all miss our flights. Told wife to phone a taxi, he was, you can't leave, he went to grab me (assault). Our autistic son is crying we will miss the flight. Not a problem to Hao cars.

Cons: Everything went really well. Our only suggestion is to simplify the shuttle pick-up instructions. The email contained a lot of information that wasn't relevant and didn't provide clear navigation at the airport. Once we found the pick-up location, we realised the process was much simpler than the instructions made it seem. A map or a simple direction such as "Locate the Commercial Transfer Area near the storage lockers" would be much easier to follow. and unclear directions

Pros: First time user for after hours I was expecting a lock box type service not an actual person come to collect us which was awesome for our latish time of arrival. Being familiar to the location & knowing where and how to drive New Zealand roads made this process a breeze for the visit. Loved how the vehicle I had somewhere to place my phone for breeze of using my maps apps as well there was a placement mount for a gopro if you were to use one while driving and remember the beautiful scenery.

Who was also the shuttle bus driver. The vehicle provided was very noisy in regard to clanging sounds in the rear and front. When applying the brakes it made a terrible sound.

Be sure to DOCUMENT before and after the car condition with video and have them verbally confirm it. HAO Rentals offered us $15NZ to give them a "5-star" review > just goes to show how this industry operates.

Pros: Hao gave us the best price out of all the rental companies in Queenstown. Car supplied was larger than the one booked. They sent us 56 photos of the car taken the day we hired it - giving us confidence we would not be charged for damage done by a previous customer. Return process was quick and easy and the shuttle bus was ready and waiting to take us immediately to the airport.

Cons: Our flight was delayed so we missed the final Hao shuttle bus at 5.30pm. The woman on the phone was not very helpful but i rang back and spoke to a different person who was more helpful and we agreed we would collect the car first thing the next day. Also the car was alot older than we expected and had alot of nicks and scratches however it drove well & was clean inside.

Pros: I was able to complete a pre-check in so I was out the door with my car in mere minutes. The agent who checked me in was fast, efficient and friendly. The depot is only about 10 minutes from the airport and the price I paid was less than half of what rentals at the terminal cost. It wasn't a new car, but it was clean and comfortable. I appreciated that Hao didn't take an extortionate bond like some independant agencies do. Bond was only like $300, instead of $3k. Will definately be back.

Cons: I had paid for the after hours return car pickup for my family and luggage so I wouldn’t have to worry about getting multiple Ubers in the early morning to fit all 5 of us and 5 large bags. But the service was only a small mini van that still didn’t fit everyone and I still had to take everyone to the airport first and leave them there while I dropped off the car on my own because they wouldn’t fit in the after hours return vehicle. If I had known this ahead of time I wouldn’t have paid for it.

Cons: My bond was actually deducted from my account. I await this return, and don’t think I should have to wait up to 7 days to see it in my account. It’s meant to be “held” but not debited. I asked about it and the guy basically dismissed my question. In the email I sent they said it was on hold, yet my bank statement says it’s been debited.

Pros: 181000 km on van. Paperwork showed no scratches or dents on van, counter guy says don't sweat it, the customer is responsible for documenting all of that. The paperwork was all done on my phone so no way to document defects. We made videos but felt very uneasy with it all.

Pros: We did our check-in online and were able to get the keys right away upon arriving at their store via their free shuttle service from the airport. It was overall very smooth both during pickup and drop-off. It is always good to have their full coverage insurance for a peace of mind when travelling. We like that we were able to get a car reserved days before our arrival with the rego (license number plate) in order for us to book some tourist location in advance e.g. deer park at Queenstown.

Cons: We did not get the make and model of the car that we booked. We were given a smaller car that did not meet our expectations. It did not have cruise control. It did not have GPS connectivity. Very high humming sound when ran on battery power. It did not appear to have power steering (too hard). We requested several times over the phone and via email to swap the car, but no response from the staff. We visited your office personally, but the staff said you did not have a car with cruise control.

Cons: Hao rentals acted disgracefully when returning the car which was also old and in an unsafe condition. The car was already full of paint chips that had been painted over, however when we returned the car they pointed out a tiny mark and demanded we pay $1,500 or we would not be allowed leave the country or be dropped to the airport, my wife and I felt threatened and extremely intimidated by the staff on site. Upon researching the company further we discovered they have done this to others before.

Pros: The hybrid car was an excellent choice for NZ with fuel prices around NZ$2.85/ltr. Fuel economy was around 5.4ltrs/100klm.

Cons: The car's manual was entirely non English so it was impossible to find out the finer details on how the car operated. There was no way to convert the on screen warning display to English. You have to check if the car has a spare. When we picked up the car they had already loaded our bags on top of the spare, so I didn't check. 20 day later, we realised that we had no spare. We were very lucky not to have had a puncture.

Cons: i had requested for Hybrid car but they offered Petrol version mid sedan . i specifically booked small car for better mileage but they said due to heavy traffic they only have the toyota corrola .

Cons: Everything else. - All instructions in the car - the central dashboard panel, the instruction manual, even the instruction on the fuel lid were in Chinese or Japansese (Not sure) but no English language. This was ridiculous with no option to change. - We rented a GPS system which did not work at all. It needed a nail & hammer to touch and operate. - The car's engine condition was very poor. - At the drop-off, the representative was mindlessly argumentative when we highlighted the issues.

Cons: It was not disclosed how far away from the airport this company is actually situated so that was a big waste of time. Also, I didn't get the car I ordered which was a Nissan. I got an email the day before pick up telling me I was collecting an MG. If I had wanted an MG I would have selected one. I did not want one and they had zero other options available. I don't even believe they necessarily had the car I wanted, probably just give everyone an MG because they have so many because they' cheap.

Cons: I asked for an AWD drive, after I booked in online I was provided with an 8 seater van which was quite unsuitable - I asked for an AWD specifically as we wanted to travel up to the snow. when we went to drop off the car there was no one there. service was to open at 8am - we arrived at 8.30am. I tried calling for 15 min and no one picked up, I then emailed and someone said they would come in 5 minutes. I felt this was very unprofessional.
