The smallest (and the cheapest) of the two airports serving the Italian capital, Ciampino Airport is popular with low cost-carriers bringing visitors to Rome. But while its famous attractions could be listed for many pages, the Eternal City is also near a number of interesting day trip destinations, many of which can be conveniently reached from Ciampino. • Castelli Romani Regional Park. Encompassing Lake Albano which was created by a now-extinct volcano, as well as a protected area to its east, Castelli Romani is one of the nicest nature regions in Greater Rome. In addition to forests and gardens, the park is known for its steep hillsides where colorful houses seem to be built on top of one another, as well as several lavish villas.
