Located in a picturesque Renaissance Revival building, this fascinating museum is dedicated to telling their stories and deciphering the melting pot that is modern Melbourne.
- Royal Botanic Gardens. Melbourne is near a number of wild beaches, state forests, and national parks, but it’s also possible to enjoy greenery and nature without leaving the city. Often called one of the best botanical gardens in the world, this large area is home to more than 10,000 species of flora, both local and brought to Australia from all over the planet. Whether you walk among giant ferns or enjoy evening dusk over one of the gardens’ lakes, this is a great place to spend a day out in the sun.
- Dandenong Ranges National Park. Encompassing a territory of forested slopes, Dandenong is one of the nicest nature areas just outside of Melbourne city borders (the drive from the center takes about 40 minutes). Part of the Aboriginal cultural landscape, it is known for hilltop villages, mighty tree ferns, and unique inhabitants such as lyrebirds and powerful owls. Due to some fauna species being easily disturbed, it is not permitted to visit the park with dogs (with the exception of assistance dogs).

Just make sure you can call an australian number from your phone or pick a local sim up at airport.
Rental place was just off the dual carriageway so picked up car and off we went. When taking back there is a petrol station about 1 minute from the place which is a good place to return it full.

Travelled to Tasmania on the Ferry, during the day one way and overnight coming back. Trip is about 8 hours. Drove round North West and central Tassie. Cradle Mountain walks are definitely worth doing, but pick your time of year. March is best for stable weather.

After landing at Tullamarine late and being told by Head Office in Tasmania that the offices close at 8pm, I had to organise to stay in a motel for the night, an extra cost I didn't need!!!! I was told I couldn't have the car until 8am the next day. We were walking to catch a cab when I noticed the mini bus from your company, this was at 10pm, I spoke with the driver and he was very caring, helpful and reliable. He told me that they knew of the delays and were waiting for all their rental clients. He was so very helpful and told me to never call the 1300 number as they are not kept up to date with delayed flights in other states. I still had to stay in a motel as it was way too late to disturb my hosts. All because of a major misinformation. I was absolutely gutted and ended up needing to borrow money to stay in the motel for the night. Please make sure ALL of your employees are kept up to date with interstate issues. The Jetstar issue we encountered was a country wide problem, something everyone but Head Office in Tasmania knew about. Thank goodness your Melbourne staff were so helpful, otherwise my whole experience would have been plain awful, as it turned out, it was just the beginning of my holiday that was plain awful and not the whole holiday. I praise the Melbourne staff, so lucky the mini bus was at the terminal as we walked by.

I am local to Melbourne and rented 4 times while awaiting my new car from overseas. Bargain Car Rental is not in Melbourne Airport but close by via shuttle bus. Please allow at least 30 minutes to return yr car and get bus to terminal as car returns can get very busy and Bargain Car Rental is understaffed atm. Melbourne is a gorgeous city. Visit Southbank, Macedon Ranges, Sunbury, Bendigo gold mines (1hr 30 minute drive). Melbourne is full of cheap food.

We found it very confusing to drive in Melbourne city (we're from US) but we managed. We got to where we wanted to go without any accidents :-) but the city was stressful driving. Outside of city was great. The Great Ocean Road drive was nice to do. But if you're just staying in the city, I'd get a shuttle from airport.
