America Car Rental at Cancun Airport

Pros: The shuttle to take us back to the airport was fast.

Cons: It took so long for the shuttle to come get us and it took even longer to get our car.

Cons: America rental car is a scam.

Pros: Not much. My charges went from $115.00 to over $1000.00 with insurance and deposits added in.

Cons: Return process was the only thing that went smoothly then we were finally told that some of the money would be refunded. 3 days later, I have not seen it in my bank yet.

Pros: No show at airport. I called them two times before someone showed up. Waited over one hour.Clerk spoke virtually no English.

Cons: Clerk wanted an additional USD300 for insurance after I had already paid approximately $300 for the car and '"full insurance coverage". At that point, I took an Uber and they refuse to reimburse me. This fiasco took 3 hours.

Pros: I liked that the original quote for the car appeared to be competitive, but once you actually went through all the sales job, he ended up paying almost double what the other car rental places charged

Cons: The people here don’t seem to understand tourists. They don’t speak English well they don’t explain their insurance well, and they take a long time to deliver the car. They also don’t provide a lot of information upon leaving the airport like exactly where to return the car or how to get to where you’re going.

Pros: Near the airport and had fairly quick shuttle.

Pros: The drop off process was efficient and the shuttle drivers were nice.

Cons: We felt scammed with having to pay an extra $100 for insurance. I also estimated our arrival time and my flight was 2 1/2 hours late—they said because I did not call (I WAS ON A PLANE), they gave away my car and then charged us an extra $50 to rent another car because it was “bigger”

Cons: No agents or booth in Cancun Terminal 4. Couldn’t find shuttle so paid for cab ($40USD) to get to their office. They told us they gave away our car because our flight was late. They offered us an “upgrade” to a manual Nissan Sentra for $57USD/day which would’ve doubled the reserved rate. I believe they employ this tactic because you’re stuck at their office in a sketchy part of town with no cabs around. We said no thanks, lost our deposit, and called an Uber and got out of there.

Cons: The cars battery died five minutes after rental and the experience was less than ideal.

Pros: Got a email from discover cars after that full coverage was not full coverage and had to pay another $1200 when I picked up the car. Was not refundable.

Cons: No service this Is a third party company do not give them money as it is cheaper for the same coverage direct thru America Car Rental.

Cons: Unexpectedly Spent over $400 for insurance I was forced to buy making the 1 week car rental crazy expensive. We spoke to other customers who were standing around waiting for their cars for OVER 2 hours. I had to get nasty with the car rental rep to get us our car as there was no way I was going to wait that long.

Pros: It was a bad experience. I’ll never go back. After being told I was being “upgraded,” I am not exaggerating when I say that I was given a very damaged and dirty car. My wife sat in the seat and there was syrup on the seat and in the cup holders. I had to complain and get a different car. By this point, it had been an hour since I arrived there, it was another really crappy car with screeching brakes and many damages. I accepted the rental and was ready to get on the road.

Cons: Our rental car broke down about an hour south of Cancun. We waited almost 3 hours for a mechanic to show with another rental car for us to use.

Cons: Everything, waited over an hour for pickup at the airport. Old dilapidated car which they changed the next day for something just as bad. Broken headrest for driver missing parts on exterior, filthy and ant infested. Horrible car, did not use it all week as we were afraid we would be stranded on the road with this awful car. Never again!

Cons: They hit you with made up insurances that you have to purchase or they want to put a ridiculous $8000 hold on your card but they make it so the deposit does not go through unless you pay for additional coverage. The cars are all damaged and they do not give you a full tank of gas.

The driver then got lost & we were on the shuttle bus for over 30 minutes driving to the location. When we arrived we waited another 30 minutes for a rep to help us. When we finally got to the desk I was told I had to pay another $100 for insurance because the insurance I bought w/Discover was no good there & returning, the guy wanted a tip 4 marking the car was fine at return

Cons: The rental car place where we picked up/dropped off the rental was a little away from the airport, the company tried to hold a $18,000 deposit on my Credit Card. Luckily after discussing with the agent, it was agreed to bring it down to $900 in which I got back at the very end of the rental.

Pros: They are quite far away from airport. They need to be less priced. Also, the shuttles should be more actively available. Very difficult to find the agent. The person on counter needs to be more friendly and have a smile. Blue tooth, etc do not work. You are competing with international brands. I took rental with you, instead of my membership with Hertz. You make me paid very high amount, specially as hidden cost of insurance. You must stop swindling tourists. Bad for your business

Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful both in Cancun and Merida.

Cons: We didn't get the car we expected. Having booked for a VW GOL or similar sedan which could fit 4-5 bags in the boot and 4 passengers, we were initially given a Renault Quid which was at a lower price point as you could only get 2 bags in the back and was too small to fit my teenage son and tall husband. They went to find an alternative car and all they could offer us was an old, very damaged, dirty GOL which really shouldn't have been in the fleet for rental. We had no choice but to take it.

Cons: In regards to the service, not much. The reservation was made under Mex car rental but somehow ended up at American. The pick up van person was not clear where we were to be picked up at the airport. Of course, there's always up selling.

Cons: Deceptive practice around the insurance (the high deductible and no theft insurance are hidden in the fine print, plus if you don't buy theft insurance the deposit is over $13K dollars! Yes, you read that right). Service at the desk was also incredibly slow.

Cons: Car pick up process was slow. Shuttle took 30+ mins wait time. Then while picking up, online insurance required a $13,000 deposit! That's stupid. SO we had to buy new insurance on the spot, this more than doubled the cost of the car. Also still had to pay for the other insurance as well. I reserved a full size automatic car, but got a smaller compact and manual. They said the automatic would be a longer wait. Why wasn't it ready? They knew my reservation and had all my info. Seems very shady.

Cons: There was no rental car shuttle to pick us up. After calling the office, we connected with a man who I am pretty sure was asleep. He agreed to send a shuttle for us. We then shuttled and forth between multiple terminals for over an hour, picking up many angry customers. We got to the office at 2am, and after waiting 2 hours, the man in the office had only helped 1 person. We were 4th in line. Also, the man said they only had manual cars, when we paid for automatic. We never got a car.

Cons: The quoted amount was quickly increased by the outrageous insurance costs that are supposedly "mandatory" unless your willing to leave a $8000.00 (yes EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLAR) credit card security deposit. The car was a dirty, scratched Chevy that was actually and upgrade from my original car. The pick up and drop off were far from the airport and our early-morning return was difficult because few people were available and seemed to be uninformed.

Pros: The representatives were very helpful and the drop off was quick and efficient.

Cons: My flight was delayed causing me to be late for my pickup. Upon arrival, I was told the car I had reserved was given away and my only option was $675 extra charge. This was extremely disappointing and was very damaging to my trip budget. I would have expected the Discover Cars customer service to have covered this cost.

Pros: BAD BAD BAD... first problems with blackmailing the purchase of full coverage or a deposit of 500 USD, then the car in such a state that we had to ask for another that for so much money we definitely want something better and finally the cleanliness in a newer car ... disaster

They force us to buy new insurance with them or else we cannot rent the car! Keep asking for Tips!!! Totally not acceptable. Car rental in Mexico is totally scam! On the same day, we saw dosen of customer having same problem with us, the car rental office are full of angry customers, screaming and fighting.

Cons: they gave us a car that was a company suv even though we paid for an intermediate suv, it was extremely dirty and in overall poor condition, a windshield wiper was broken (driver's side) in a area that rains a lot, three of the tires were low on air, they forced us to pay for collision insurance even though I provided evidence that I had it included on my credit card, ripped up my agreement when I wrote I declined the coverage, and treated us terribly overall

Cons: The place is located outside of the airport, like 20 min driving. The shuttle car took almost 90 min to arrive to the airport and we spent 60 there to pick the car. The overcharged 500 USD and we didn't have any other option because the nearest dealer was at the airport and their shuttle service it's only for their customers. I would definitely not recommend this company to anyone

Eu questionei o fato de estar sem placa. E o atendente falou " não tem problema está tudo certo" e no dia 04/01 por causa de muitas lagrimas minha, fomos liberados para voltar de carro para o hotel.

Pros: I got a flat 15 minutes after renting on a major highway. The spare was also flat. I paid for roadside assistance and was told it would be over two hours to get service. I had to pay someone else to fix it for me sooner. Then they told me I couldn’t get a new tire until the following day and I would have to go to the rental agency in town to pick up the tire myself. We without a car.

Cons: We reserved a car a month before our trip, got confirmation that we were approved, and upon arrival had no car there for us in Cancun, leaving us there at the airport to pay an insanely high price for a different rental car, never again will I use your company, nor tell anyone to use you.

Cons: The staff attempted to pull a fast one and give me a car that was clearly damaged, not similar in class to the cx-5 and when challenged for use of another vehicle or mazda that we clearly saw in the parking space were told it was on reserve for other customers.

I spoke to Discover and America Car rental the next day and due to a system problem that neither side is admitting to my contact details were never transferred between these two companies, even though on my invoice and other communications it all appeared correctly. I also tried to get another car, no stock. Called up Europecar and got a car same day. Avoid these cowboys at all costs.

Cons: First car had no back number plate. Had to return following day for replacement, which meant we lost a day of our journey. They failed to supply us with notarised letter to take car to Guatemala, so all our plans changed and we lost money as had to cancel hotel booked in Guatemala. They pressurised us into taking out extra insurance, which was unnecessary.

They gave me the car with an empty gas tank, only to recommend I go to a nearby gas station that scammed not 1 but 2 of my credit cards with fake charges. I was told I needed an extra insurance that amounted to nearly double the price I was quoted by DiscoverCarHire and there was no way around not paying this. I would not recommend America Car Rental.

Cons: The shuttle dropped me off at the wrong terminal, despite the driver assuring me that my flight to New York left from there. I ended up spending an hour and a half walking between terminals carrying all my bags, and only barely made my flight.

We nearly ran out of gas on our way to our resort. The windows and windshields were horrible. We could never see out of them. By far the worst experience we have ever had with a rental car service. Will never rent from you guys again.

When we got to the place we were told we needed to buy another insurance even though we bought one online, so we had to buy 2! The car was disgustingly filthy and had no gas.
