Pros: Everything was great and friendly staff, and the car was neat and clean as expected. Dropping off the guys were even more helpful and listened to my concern about the car.
Cons: nothing in particular but the system didn't work when I was there probably load-shedding.

Cons: It was all a nightmare and a movie experience I will never forget. My booking voucher clearly indicated that I opted and paid to cross the border to Eswatini. Yet Thrifty would still regard my border crossing as illegal and send their tracking company to unleash the police on me. I was almost shot and killed as the Eswatini police rounded me like a car thief pointing a dozen guns at me. Thanks to Thrifty for this humiliation, alarm and distress. I still have panic attacks from this experience.

Cons: It is the second day they keep deducting money for petrol without any communication what so ever. If you phone client service they don’t answer
Cons: This is the second time I hire a certain group of the car but I don’t get the selected group car. I hired the i10 group car and when I got to the airport they said on their side the Toyota Etios groups was selected but even my slip that was emailed to me showed the i10 group. So I ended up paying more for that group then I had planned to!👎
Cons: I’m highly disappointed in the service I received from Thrifty. It was my first time hiring a car therefore I was unaware that the car has to be checked for existing damages before I leave with it, the guy that helped me didn’t check the car as they were rushing to close as I fetched the car Sunday, when I returned the car I’m told I might not get refunded the deposit because the car doesn’t have the form that indicates existing damage to it as it should be as if that is my fault? Never again!

Cons: The car was not previously inspected and we had to ask for a reinspection as there were many scratched and dents not marked on the form. The tank was not full (or within 3L as per policy) the clips holding up the back seats were broken there was sticky stuff messed on the seats. Not professional at all

Cons: Out of date paper systems driving the entire system from data capture to contract management and issuing/signing. 10 years behind Sixt and other. Despite having rented from Thrifty 2-3x the last 1-2 years in SA there were no records. Also seems international systems are in silos. Impossible to het a blue chip account from tje UK despite trying many times. You still beat Woodford RSA though.

Cons: The car was old, with over 43km on the clock. Service record was dubious as it stated last service was complete at 45k when odometer reading stated lies than that! Steering was vague and tyre pressures were wrong. Overall not a car I felt I could rely on for a 9 day hire in a place like South Africa with some poor roads and long distances.

This person stole 3000 Rand opening the From my backpack, opening Backdoor while we were still preparing ourselves to drive off from garage. We reported this at Thrifty, but no apologies for this bad security have been made

Cons: It took forever to pick the car up. I have the company at least 3 months notice that we wanted a cross border authorisation to drive into Swaziland. When we arrived to pick the car up, only then did they start the process of getting it authorised. The staff and everything about the pick up experience was slow and poor. I also received an automatic car after being told I would have a manual. Poor overall service. Would not use again.

Cons: After having a booking including travel to Swaziland, it took just over 2 hours to collect the car due to the waiting for the cross boarder letter.

The driver license must have been issued by authorized authorities at least 2 year(s) before the date of the commencement of the rental.
In addition to the regular driver license, an International Driving Permit is also mandatory if the national driver license is not written in English.
Please note that the International Driving Permit is valid only if accompanied by the regular driver license.
In addition to documents mentioned previously, the customer will need the following: passport, valid driver license, credit card on a main drivers name, booking voucher.
However, in the event the customer is involved in a single-vehicle accident, he/she is liable for double the standard waiver deductible/excess.
If the customer takes the following extra equipment: GPS Navigation system, then an additional amount of deposit will be held on their credit card.
If the customer takes the following extra equipment: Baby seat (up to 1 year of age), then an additional amount of deposit will be held on their credit card.
It is possible to pay and leave the deposit only with the following payment methods: MasterCard credit card, VISA credit card, American Express credit card.
For the Standard, Premium, Fullsize car group, a minimum of two credit cards issued on the main driver's name are required.
The main driver must provide a physical payment card in their name with enough funds to cover the deposit to pick up the car. The rental company will neither accept virtual credit cards (e.g., GooglePay or ApplePay) nor someone else’s card (including family members).
Crossing country borders is forbidden to the following country: Zimbabwe.
Additional charges will be applied in case the car is crossing state or region borders.
Details are available from the car rental company's reservation office.
The Luxury, Minivan, Premium, Fullsize car group(s) may not be used for crossing country borders rentals.
In the event that Cross Border & Territorial Restrictions are violated, all protections lose their validity.
Prices for extras are shown on the booking page.
Adding additional drivers is allowed.
There is an additional charge for each driver.
When picking up the vehicle, all drivers must be present and must provide valid documentation.
Delivery/Collection service is available only by previous request. Delivery/Collection service is available within city limits. Additional charges will be applied, depending on the distance.
If the renter would like to extend the rental period, renter should return to the car hire office at the end of the rental period to sign a new agreement.
