Pros: Car was as described. Agents on the ground were friendly and helpful

Cons: Car had warning lights on for maintenance and tyre pressure. I called and emailed Goldcar but did not get a response for 2 or 3 days. So I took the car back to the rental place and they checked it all out for me.

Cons: Pick-up protocol not even shown to me upon pick-up but sent to me later with my signature pasted in from other document. The only signature that I gave to the agent was on the terms& conditions form, before I even knew what car I'll get. That seems close to illegal! The protocol showed no damage on the car, I found at least 3 and got charged for 1 of them (not sure if the chip on the windscreen was there at the time of pickup, because I took the car from a dark parking).

Pros: Organization is ok.

Cons: Unclear information whether the car is suitable for F roads. According to web and info at the counter yes. But in the car was big label that it is not. Hybrid but the battery was dead, almost all driving was done using petrol.

Pros: The pickup process was rather smooth. The lady at the counter explained everything. The drop off was confusing. We had been told that some will be there however when we arrived the office was closed although it was still far before the closing time. The guy from the next door agency instructed us to simply leave the keys in the box what we did. After an hour I received the email that everything was alright and the deposit amount was immediately released.

Pros: The car was in great shape and it was very reliable during my rental. Staff were all friendly and professional. Rental desk and car were at the airport and easy to find. Price was excellent and one of the main trains I traveled to Iceland.

Cons: I received some emails during my rental that had the wrong details on them, inc the wrong return dates. This was confusing. There was further confusion when I returned the car regarding the amount that I owed. The staff were friendly and professional and we got the matter resolved satisfactorily. I didn’t think the initial damage report on the vehicle was very transparent, I did not see it and was told to take photos of any damage I found when picking up the car.

Rate includes
Free cancellation with a full refund up to 48 hours before your pick-up time, Unlimited mileage, Collision Damage Waiver (deductible: ~€ 1740.00), Theft Protection, Third Party Liability (TPL), VAT (value added tax), Free modifications.
Rate excludes
The following mandatory surcharge(s) will be applied: Road tax.
The government of Iceland charges a road tax of 9 ISK per kilometer driven.
Driver requirements
Minimum rental age is 19 years.
A young driver fee applies to drivers under the age of 25.

Maximum rental age is 99 years.
A Senior driver fee is not applied.

The driver license must have been issued by authorized authorities at least 1 year(s) before the date of the commencement of the rental.

In order to pick up the car, the renter and each additional driver must present the following documents: valid driver license, credit card on a main drivers name, Passport or ID card, booking voucher.
A driver license printed using a non-Roman alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc) must be supplemented by an International Driving Permit.
Please note that the International Driving Permit is valid only if it is accompanied by a regular driver's license, is issued by an official authority or government-authorized organization, and is in physical (not digital) form.
Deposit and deductible policy
A separate fuel deposit is required when collecting the vehicle.
Optional extras and services
Available special equipment: GPS Navigation system, Baby seat (up to 1 year of age), Child seat (2-4 years of age).
Prices for extras are shown on the booking page.

Adding additional drivers is allowed.
There is an additional charge for each driver.
Underage additional drivers are subject to both Young Driver and Additional Driver fees.
When picking up the vehicle, all drivers must be present and must provide valid documentation.

Fuel policy
The vehicle is provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with the same amount in order to avoid additional charges.
Additional information
By law, winter tires are mandatory on all roads from 01.11 to 15.04.
Snow chains are allowed in icy/snowy conditions.
Rental period
The maximum rental period per agreement is 28 days.
Business hours
The supplier will hold the vehicle for 0 minutes after your scheduled pick-up time as long as it is within their normal business hours. After this time, your booking may be canceled without refund.
If the customer is late for a return for more than 60 minutes, extra day charges will apply, in addition to any other rental charges.
